Tesla expected to show humanoid robot Optimus demo on Friday night at AI Day 2022 - CNBC

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and leaders from the company's AI and hardware teams are expected to speak at the company's AI Day 2022, an engineer-recruiting event, which will be live-streamed on Friday starting around 5:00 p.m. in California. You can watch AI Day 2022 here.

During the last AI Day in August 2021, Musk said Tesla was going to build a humanoid robot, which is referred to as either the Tesla Bot or Optimus today.

"It's intended to be friendly, of course, and navigate through a world of humans, and eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks," Musk said at the time.

Tesla didn't have a hardware prototype to show last year and made the 2021 announcement with an actor dressed in a Tesla Bot body suit dancing on stage. The stunt drew sneers from critics and cheers from fans.

This year, investors are expecting a real tech demonstration of the robot, along with updates on Tesla's progress developing self-driving technology that can turn the company's existing electric vehicles into robotaxis.

Musk has been promising a truly self-driving Tesla since 2016 when he said a coast-to-coast demo would happen by the end of 2017. To-date the company has only released driver assistance systems that need to be constantly supervised by a human driver who remains attentive to the road and their car, ready to take over at any time.

When Musk originally floated the humanoid robot concept at AI Day 2021, Musk said of Optimus, "It should be able to, 'please go to the store and get me the following groceries,' that kind of thing."

Later, Musk said that robots made by Tesla will one day be worth more than its cars, and that thousands of them would be put to work moving parts around the factories, where humans build cars and batteries.

During Tesla's 2021 fourth-quarter earnings call, Musk remarked: "If you think about the economy-- the foundation of the economy is labor. Capital equipment is distilled labor. So what happens if you don't actually have a labor shortage? I'm not sure what an economy even means at that point. That's what Optimus is about, so very important."

Tesla has a mixed record with automation.

As Bernstein senior research analyst Toni Sacconaghi wrote in a September 30 note ahead of AI Day 2022, In 2018 Tesla "had mistakenly tried to hyper-automate its final assembly (i.e. putting parts into cars)." The result was that Musk soon admitted "excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake," and "humans are underrated."

Tesla brought more people back to its manufacturing and assembly lines after that, but Sacconaghi writes that today Tesla is over-automating its customer service. Tesla owners generally find it difficult to get in touch with individual sales and service reps at Tesla, and are steered to conduct all possible resolution of complaints through Tesla's mobile app.

A long-time robotics engineer, Alexander Kernbaum, who now serves as interim director of robotics at the vaunted research and development non-profit SRI International, says whether Tesla impresses with its robotics update at AI Day or not, the company has the resources to develop something meaningful and has inspired new interest in the field.

However, Kernbaum notes, when it comes to creating a robot that can make a difference in an car assembly plant, there's really no need for Tesla to develop a bi-pedal robot. "Mobile robots will find uses," he explains, "But mobility should be as simple as possible for a factory environment meaning wheels would be the way to go, not legs."

Robotic legs require a lot of power, for one thing, which would put strain on any battery Tesla develops for its robotics. Additionally, legged robots -- like people -- can trip and fall. Wheeled robots would not be as likely to tip over. The safety concern should be tantamount in a factory, Kernbaum suggests.

Kernbaum believes Tesla would be best-served to focus on robotic hands. He said, "Hands are like the ultimate multi-tool. Dexterity and in-hand object manipulation are the grand 10-year challenges that will have an obvious impact on all precision manufacturing and on everything really."

AI Day 2022 will be the company's first major event since former AI leader of Tesla Andrej Karpathy resigned. AI Day precedes Tesla's third-quarter vehicle production and deliveries report which is expected within days.

4 Developer Takeaways from a Pyscript Demo

Pyscript works with or without JavaScript and offers the Python ecosystem inside HTML, explains a senior developer advocate from Anaconda.

“Wouldn’t it be cool if we could run Python in the browser,” asked Anaconda senior developer advocate Valerio Maggio during a recent webinar, “Rethinking Data Visualisation with pyscript.”

He proceeded to demonstrate exactly how useful Pyscript, Anacando’s new language, could be by demonstrating the code with multiple data visualization tools. But first, he offered a developer’s perspective of what he’s learned about Pyscript. Here are four takeaways from his talk:

1. What the Heck Is Pyscript, Again?

Maggio spent a good deal of time really drilling into what Pyscript is and how it differs or does not differ from JavaScript and HTML — more on that below. As for the basics — what is Pyscript — he explained that it’s a client-side technology that doesn’t require a server. Strictly speaking, it’s implemented by a few lines of code in HTML to call Pyscript from Anaconda. You can download it or add some code to your page:

He noted it actually has two versions at this point — Alpha, which is frozen and more stable, or you can download the latest release. Anaconda is also pinning releases. Releases follow CalVer as a versioning convention, he added.

“It’s a fantastic methodology to have Python finally working alongside JavaScript to do lots of things,” Maggio explained. “It’s an environment management system. It’s a flexible framework that allows you to create pluggable components.”

He also addressed the why of Pyscript.

“The potential to this technology is manyfold,” he said. “In essence, Pyscript is just HTML. But to just say that Pyscript is just HTML, it’s not entirely true, isn’t it? This is slightly more powerful […] than just HTML, because Pyscript brings the whole Python ecosystem directly into the browser. And the mission of this project is [enable] programming for the 99%.“

Of course, here’s the other thing about Pyscript, he reminded the audience: Pyscript is not ready for production as it’s still being developed.

2. Pycharm Supports Pyscript

If you’d prefer IDE support before you try Pyscript, Maggio recommended PyCharm, an IDE for Python. In fact, he used it to create the presentation seen during the webinar.

“Pycharm has done a great job in supporting Pyscript syntax highlighting within the Pyscript times,” he said. “If you ask me, I would definitely recommend using PyCharm as the go-to solution to use Pyscript immediately. And to be fair, this is what I’ve been using to prepare for this presentation. It’s working perfectly.”

The syntax highlighting within the Pyscript helps to make it easier to reuse code because, as he put it, “It would become cumbersome to have HTML, JavaScript and Python altogether and Python not highlighted properly.”

3. Pyscript Is Not a Javascript Replacement

Pyscript is a single-page application (SPA); from a more technical perspective it is just written in TypeScript, Maggio said. It’s not meant to be a JavaScript killer, he stressed.

“What’s the deal here? What’s going on exactly?” he said. “Well, Pyscript allows the use of Python in the browser to build interactive web apps, something you would normally do at the moment with JavaScript. Pyscript allows you to work with or without JavaScript.”

In fact, some of the demos he used in the webinar involved interacting directly with JavaScript, while others did not.

It’s also more than Python, he added.

“First off, a selling feature is Python in the browser; but it’s not just Python, the language in the browser, it is more like the Python ecosystem in the browser,” he said. “It’s Python with JavaScript.“

4. PHP Vibes

The first time Maggio saw Pyscript, it gave him “PHP vibes,” he confessed. It was a joke, he said, but he added a best practice of PHP is to use something else. “Are we really doing the dark side here? How are we going into the direction of making Python a new PHP, which by the way, means person on page anyway, […] so we really joined the dark side.”

That made him take a more careful look at Pyscript.

“I understood that it’s completely a whole new ecosystem in front of me,” he said.”The answer is very simple [but] is actually not, because Pyscript is much much more than that — it is absolutely [in] no way related to PHP kind of technology.”

With Pyscript, developers can avoid mixing HTML and Python code if that bothers them — and it should bother them, he added.

“It’s not a good practice mixing presentation and programming logic,” he said. “In Pyscript, you can actually have the Python code separated in a separated module, you can write everything in a timer.py. In this example, I’ve imported using the auto — see the source attribute in the pyscript time. So the Pyscript enables best practice.”

He demoed the timer script:

It’s important to remember that Pyscript is also working within the web browser environment.

When Maggio thinks of code in HTML, he thinks of JSP technology, he acknowledged. But that requires servers and, again, Pyscript is client-side technology so no server is required and no installation is required, he noted.

If developers are bothered by the mixture of presentation and programming, bear in mind that, for better or worse, it’s the same thing that happens using JavaScript, he said.

His full presentation provided more information on the Pyscript architecture, which is built atop Pyodide, a spinoff of the discontinued Mozilla Iodide project, and WASM. It also featured demos with Matplotlib, Seaborn, Bokeh, Panel and HvPlot, NetworkX and D3.js. He’s made the slides, complete with code links, available online in — what else — Pyscript.

Libertex €50,000 Demo Acc Lets You Access All Trading Possibilities - BeInCrypto

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

With the Libertex €50,000 demo account, you can explore all trading possibilities without risking your funds.

Trading is gaining popularity over time. However, trading is not as easy as it sounds. In particular, several platforms only allow you to trade when you literally buy a particular asset. This is highly impossible for many due to the higher price of various assets.

But what if we told you that you could trade stocks, cryptocurrencies, and other assets without actually purchasing them? That is where Libertex’s CFD platform comes into action. Let us take a look at Libertex and how it provides CFD trading to its users with a demo account.

Libertex in a nutshell

Libertex is a CFD trading firm that operates online. Commodities, foreign exchange, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies are among its fundamental assets. The Libertex organization serves millions of customers in the EEA and Switzerland.

Furthermore, the platform has established itself as one of the leading CFD companies. Indeed, Libertex has earned notable recognition. The platform has received more than 40 prestigious international recognition and awards.

Practice on a €50k demo account with Libertex

Getting used to CFD trading and getting the hang of it takes time. It is not advised to put your capital at risk in such a situation. That is where the free demo account of Libertex comes to the rescue.

Libertex provides you with a feature to practice trading on a demo account. This saves you from completely burning out your account if you are new to CFD trading.

With your demo account, you get a €50,000 virtual balance. Users can utilize the virtual balance to practice trades. The demo account will provide all the features and strategies of a real account.

In a demo account, there is no real money involved, but users can use the balance to do any trade. On the other hand, in a real account, users will be depositing real funds and trading with real money.

The demo account allows users to trade securely while still getting access to all the platform features. Moreover, you can also get your hands on educational materials that can help you master the trades.

How to get started with Libertex?

Beginning your journey with Libertex is simple. Here is how you can sign up and begin trading with Libertex:

  • Register or sign up for an account on Libertex
  • Submit your details and verify your account
  • If you are new to CFD trading, utilize the demo account
  • You can make use of the €50k demo account to practice trading
  • You can ramp up your trading skills and improve your strategy with the demo account
  • You can familiarize yourself with the user interface and trading tools
  • Once you are ready to fund your account, choose your payment method
  • For payment, credit/debit cards, wire transfers, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, and Jeton methods are available

Even though many trading platforms provide a demo account option, the features are limited. Most of the time, you don’t have access to the full-fledged features unless you make a deposit.

But with Libertex, you get access to all the features, pro tools, and strategies without the initial deposit. Sounds remarkable, right?

What’s more?

With the popularity of crypto rising, Libertex has some good news for crypto traders. The platform offers crypto CFD trading with zero commission, exchange fees, and swap fees with tight spreads.

Users can avail of this offer with a minimum deposit of €100. However, the amount does not have any commission fees or charges and can be used for crypto CFD trades by the traders.

Alongside this, the platform also offers tight spreads. A tight spread is when the difference between the asking price and the bid price is narrow or tight.

CFD trading is complicated and risky. Although Libertex offers a user-friendly platform, do your homework. CFDs are instruments that carry a notable risk of loss. Before you start trading, be aware of CFDs and the dangers they entail.

Final thoughts

The risk of losing capital is one of the difficulties new traders face. The necessity of a demo account that can offer all the features is a lifesaver.

The €50k demo account lets users use all of Libertex’s features without any limitations. The virtual balance will aid users in getting the hang of all the tools and strategies.

With Libertex, users need not deposit real money until they practice and master the trade. If you are searching for a dependable, user-friendly platform with years of industry trust and expertise, Libertex is the platform to go for.

FAQs

What is a demo account in Libertex❓

The criteria for demo trading are nearly identical to those for genuine trading accounts. The primary distinction is that a demo account is risk-free because no real funds are at risk. Demo accounts’ funds are basically virtual credits.

Is there a minimum deposit limit on Libertex❓

€100 is the minimum deposit on Libertex real account. However, the amount of deposit decides the possibility of profit that you make. It is not guaranteed that you might make a profit because it comes with the risks involved.

Can you withdraw funds from the demo account❓

Since the funds in a demo account are basically virtual credits, the funds from the demo account can’t be withdrawn.

Which broker is best for the demo account❓

Libertex is one of the best brokers for trading demo accounts.

How much money do you risk by trading in a demo account❓

On a demo, there is no actual financial risk.

Is trading on a demo account real❓

The main distinction is that when using real accounts, you will trade with real money, whilst demo accounts employ fictitious currency with no actual value. The market circumstances for demo accounts are identical to those for real accounts other than that, making them the best option for testing out your strategy.

The biggest moonshots from 500 Global’s latest Demo Day - TechCrunch

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

It’s demo day season. This morning marked the kickoff of VC firm 500 Global’s Fall 2022 Demo Day, which saw over a dozen startups give their best pitches to prospective investors — and customers. Participants ran the gamut from fintech and sustainability to edtech and developer tools, and several stood out from the rest of the pack.

The event comes just weeks after Y Combinator had its bi-annual Demo Day, its first since moving operations back to in-person. 500 Global, formerly branded under 500 Startups, has an accelerator that competes with YC. Both outfits look to back early-stage founders with money and advice in exchange for equity. YC has backed over 3,500 founders, while 500 Global has backed more than 2,800 founders, according to each institution’s websites. Unlike YC, 500 Global has geographic-specific accelerator programs, similar to Techstars, with focus on areas like Aichi, Japan, Cambodia, and Alberta, Canada.

That said, today’s debut from 500 Global is from its first and flagship program, hailing back from 2010 and, fittingly, including companies from all around the globe. All companies go through a four-month program but start at different times, thanks to 500 Global’s somewhat new rolling admissions strategy. Let’s dig into some of the moonshots of the batch and end with some notes from Clayton Bryan, partner and head of 500 Global’s Accelerator Fund.

The moonshots

For example, there’s Taiwan-based Rosetta.ai, an ecommerce startup tapping AI to let customers search for products — particularly apparel and cosmetic — through specific attributes. Rosetta’s AI algorithm “sees” which attributes (e.g., sleeveless, ruffled, microbeads) a shopper might want as they browse an online store and builds a “preference profile” for them, which merchants can use to cross-sell or set up promotions that trigger if it seems likely the shopper will abandon their cart.

Rosetta.ai

It’s early days for Rosetta. But the company, which was founded in 2016, has raised $2.4 million in capital to date and claims to have customers including Shu Uemura, in which L’Oréal owns a majority stake. The trick will be continuing to win customers over rivals like Lily AI, which similarly attempts to match customers with products using attributes and AI models.

Elsewhere on Demo Day, Lydia.ai walked through its health assessment service for insurance carriers. Designed to do away with lengthy medical exams and forms, Lydia has insurance plan applicants answer a few questions about their health — e.g., whether they have a chronic illness, have recently been hospitalization and so on — via their smartphones. The platform then generates an abstracted health score supposedly devoid of sensitive medical details, which insurers can use for risk management and underwriting.

Lydia.ai

Lydia isn’t the first to attempt this. Health tech startup Fedo also algorithmically generates health scores, quantifying a person’s risk for diseases and their propensity to claim. The opaqueness of Lydia’s approach also raises questions, like whether its algorithms account for demographic differences and historic biases in health care. But if the startup remains true to its mission — insuring the next billion people — it could be one to watch, particularly given the capital (~$13 million) already behind it.

One of the more unique Demo Say startups that presented was BetaStore, a supplier for the “informal” retail outlets common in Africa. Informal retailers are unlicensed and unregistered retailers that don’t report to tax agencies, typically operating out of open markets and shops. BetaStore serves as a goods marketplace for informal retailers, providing access to staples such as dish soap, laundry detergent and all-purpose cleaner at wholesale prices and delivering them to the retailers (within 48 hours).

BetaStore

BetaStore customers can order products via chat, text message or WhatsApp. On the backend, the platform provides sales analytics to manufacturers, which BetaStore notes can be leveraged to make “data-driven” decisions to scale up shipments.

BetaStore appears to be off to a strong start. Founded in 2020, the Nigeria-based startup claims to have distributed over 140,000 goods to retail customers in Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Senegal and fielded over 20,000 orders. Recently, BetaStore began offering financing to retailers and plans to launch a buy now, pay later product in the coming months.

One year after the rebrand

Minutes after Demo Day ended, Bryan spoke to TechCrunch about 500 Global and how it’s growing within an increasingly volatile (and competitive) market.

“It’s been kind of gloomy, but we’ve told our companies time and time again that the silver lining is that 2021 was a phenomenal year for venture funds raising financing,” he said, fitting into the news that U.S. based investors are sitting on $290 billion in dry powder right now. The accelerator’s top advice was to start fundraising earlier, ready the company more before going out to the market, and stay smart on managing expenses. His advice these days is that startups should be preparing for at least 18 months of runway.

It has been almost a year since 500 Global rebranded from 500 startups, a move that Bryan said was meant to reposition the institution as less of an accelerator, and more of a venture firm. Its more than semantics; former batch participants have come back to 500 for follow-on funding, during their Series A but up till their series D.

“Historically, we haven’t had any any optionality, but now we’re going multi-strategy and we’re working on later stage funds,” he said. “We have the demand with our founder community, we have a demand even within our partner community that they want to have access to more de-risked companies.”

He added: “We’re very proud of our accelerator. It is a key vantage…but now it’s helped unlock other opportunities for us as a firm that we’re exploring with a lot of enthusiasm.”

As for if 500 will change its investment cadence, check size or focus – similar to YC as it prepared for a downturn –  Bryan said there’s more to come.

“We’re not immune to the the changes that are happening in our ecosystem, we’re aware of what other funds are doing and other programs are doing,” he said. “Our program has been operating strongly for the last 10 plus years. But at the same time, we can’t rest on our laurels, and we’ve got to make sure that we have compelling deal terms.”

Solana NFT Game Star Atlas Launches Playable Demo on Epic Games Store - Decrypt

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

In brief

  • Upcoming Solana-based game Star Atlas just released a playable demo via the Epic Games Store for NFT owners.
  • Developer ATMTA also released a toolkit that lets other studios connect Unreal Engine 5-based games to the Solana blockchain.

Star Atlas is arguably one of the most ambitious NFT-driven games on the horizon, although it could be years before the Solana-based outer space strategy game fully takes shape. Eager players won’t have to wait that long to get a small taste, however: a limited demo has just been released via the Epic Games Store.

Launched today as part of a live-streamed event, Star Atlas: Showroom is a pre-alpha demo of the Unreal Engine 5 technology powering the game. It lets Star Atlas NFT owners explore a 3D environment and view the ships and vehicles in which they've invested.

Star Atlas is currently only offering access to people who own the NFTs: they can earn an access key by owning a ship and joining one of Star Atlas’ in-game factions. Michael Wagner, CEO and co-founder of Star Atlas developer ATMTA, told Decrypt that the demo also features a single non-NFT ship to explore, and that some access codes will be given to select non-owners.

A screenshot from the Star Atlas: Showroom demo. Image: ATMTA

Later this year, the Showroom demo will be expanded to include additional features, including multiplayer capabilities, chat functionality, and the ability for NFT holders to take their ships out for a flight. An NFT is a blockchain token that represents ownership of a unique item—in this case, digital spaceships and other vehicles that can be used in a video game.

In addition to launching its own first playable taste of Star Atlas, the developer also today released a toolkit to make it easier for other developers to bring their own Unreal Engine 5-based games to the Solana blockchain.

A screenshot from the Star Atlas: Showroom demo. Image: ATMTA

The Foundation Software Development Kit (F-KIT) is an open-source SDK that lets Unreal Engine 5 developers integrate the Solana blockchain, letting users sign transactions to complete in-game actions. Unreal Engine hails from Fortnite creator Epic Games, and is widely used across the video game industry, as well as for TV shows and movies.

Releasing the F-KIT as an open-source tool means that “mainstream studios,” as Wagner put it, “now have a faster path” to creating games on Solana. He said that other builders could also take the kit and extend it to other networks, such as Ethereum. For his team, however, it’s also a way to encourage others to “build experiences that extend the Star Atlas universe.”

Star Atlas made a number of other announcements today, including updates to its governance structure via a DAO and path to full decentralization of the game’s economy and ecosystem, as well as an upcoming digital graphic novel that establishes the lore for the sci-fi game.

Wagner explained that ATMTA is developing two different clients for Star Atlas: the glossier Unreal Engine 5 version that the firm only plans to release via the Epic Games Store—although not in a formal exclusivity deal, an Epic Games spokesperson told Decrypt—and a simpler web-based WebGL version. All of the game functionality will be available through both versions, but the Epic Games Store version will require a gaming-capable PC to run.

The Epic Games Store is a popular platform for PC games, with over 194 million users claimed as of the end of 2021. And unlike its chief rival, Steam, the Epic Games Store is OK with games that utilize NFTs and blockchains, so long as they follow the platform’s regulations.

Just recently, Mythical Games launched the first NFT-based game on the platform: Blankos Block Party, a color online playground that the studio claims had more than 1 million total users before it hit the Epic Games Store. Another NFT-based game, Gala Games’ shooter GRIT, is also set to release via the same marketplace.

The Star Atlas: Showroom demo is just a light taste of the future, complete game experience, which sounds like a much more robust affair than your average crypto game today. Major games take time to develop—and in this case, Wagner envisions another five or six years of development on Star Atlas.

But the Showroom launch suggests the kind of incremental release schedule that ATMTA has in mind, Wagner said. The Showroom itself will gain more features by year’s end, and then by the end of 2023, the team plans to release a complete “vertical slice” of the game—that is, a fully functional (but limited) chunk of gameplay that shows what the full game should be like.

“We still have a long road ahead,” he said. “But the idea is to continuously release these iterative features so that you're constantly getting more engagement.”

Editor's note: This article was updated after publication to clarify that Star Atlas does not have an exclusive deal in place with the Epic Games Store.

Arcade scores $7.5M seed to make it simple to build a product demo - TechCrunch

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Software product marketers typically are charged with creating demos for potential customers. These let people who are interested in the product see how a function inside an application works as a way to whet the appetite of the potential buyer.

Arcade, a startup launched by two former Atlassian employees, decided to attack this problem with a simple Chrome extension to build demos quickly that product people can make use of in various settings.

Today, the company announced the product, which has been in private beta for the last 8 months, is available to the public. The startup also announced that it has received $7.5 million in total seed investment.

Arcade co-founder and CEO Caroline Clark says that the product is about empowering people to make interactive demos very quickly. “We allow product marketers, or anyone in go-to-market, to build interactive snippets of the product that they can then embed on websites, social media and blog posts,” she said.

She adds, “The whole goal of our product is that you allow the customers to try before they buy so that they can get an understanding of what the product can do before they invest with a credit card, before deploying their own data, before they go through the whole implementation process.”

If you’re thinking that’s what a free trial is for, she said this about getting potential customers interested, even before they get to that stage. “There are so many different parts of the journey before they get to the free trial…And so our main goal is that if you’re in a social media campaign, or even a blog post that’s outside of the website property, you can see right there in that context, how the product works,” Clark explained.

Arcade product demo example.

The company reports that since they went into private beta earlier this year, more than 1000 companies have generated 4,000 demos using the product. Today they have eight employees, but Clark reports they are hiring, particularly in customer success and sales.

As a female founder, she sees how few investment dollars are flowing to women, and she says it’s probably not a coincidence that several of her earliest investors are women. She is looking to find diverse talent to fill roles whenever possible as she builds here own employee base. She says that one way to do that is controlling what she can control in the process.

“What I do is look at my outreach. I’m very focused on underrepresented groups, so you can control the outreach, but you can’t control the inbound so we try to compensate for that [with direct outreach],” she said.

The $7.5 million seed funding came in two tranches. The company scored $2.5 million in January led by Upfront Ventures, Sequoia and several industry angels including Front CEO Mathilde Collin and Shippo CEO Laura Behrens Wu.

The second piece, a $5 million investment, was led by Joanne Chen at Foundation Ventures, along with several other industry angels. Chen will be joining Arcade’s board under the terms of the deal.

Fox News Tops September And Third-Quarter Viewership, All Networks See Drop In Key Demo - Deadline

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Fox News again topped its cable news rivals in total viewers and a key demographic during the month of September and for the third quarter.

But it was a rather dismal period for the networks when it comes to drawing viewers in the key 25-54 demo, as they all saw audience declines in the category versus a year ago. MSNBC and Fox News did show some growth in certain categories of total viewers, and there is hope among executives that interest in the 2022 midterms will lead to uptick as November approaches.

In September, Fox News averaged 2.13 million viewers, down 15% from the same period in 2021. MSNBC averaged 1.23 million, down 3%, while CNN posted 682,000, down 14%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 280,000, down 31%, while CNN posted 136,000, down 27% and MSNBC was at 114,000, down 26%.

In total day, Fox News averaged 1.41 million, down 4%, while MSNBC posted 791,000, up 10%, and CNN was at 580,000, flat versus a year ago. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 201,000, down 17%, followed by CNN with 111,000, down 13% and 82,000 for MSNBC, off by 2%.

The Five again came in first in total viewers among all cable programs, averaging 3.3 million, followed by Tucker Carlson Tonight with 3.1 million, Jesse Watters Primetime at 2.73 million, Hannity at 2.7 million and Special Report with Bret Baier with 2.38 million.

In adults 25-54, Tucker Carlson Tonight topped with 438,000, followed by The Five with 420,000, Jesse Watters Primetime with 348,000, Hannity at 340,000 and Gutfeld! with 338,000.

For the third quarter, Fox News topped primetime with an average of 2.19 million total viewers, down 8%, followed by MSNBC with 1.28 million, flat versus last year, and CNN with 717,000, down 13%. In adults 25-54, Fox News averaged 294,000, down 23%, versus 150,000 for CNN, down 21% and 127,000 for MSNBC, off by 22%.

In total day, Fox News averaged 1.41 million, up 3%, followed by MSNBC with 783,000, up 6% and CNN at 558,000, down 7%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 201,000, down 13%, CNN was at 110,000, down 17%, and MSNBC posted 85,000, off by 11%.

The Five topped total viewers, averaging 3.3 million, followed by Tucker Carlson Tonight with 3.2 million, Jesse Watters Primetime at 2.7 million, Hannity with 2.68 million and Special Report with Bret Baier at 2.34 million.

In adults 25-54, Tucker Carlson Tonight topped 468,000, followed by The Five with 418,000, Hannity with 358,000, Jesse Watters Primetime at 342,000 and Gutfeld! with 339,000.

Fox News noted that Greg Gutfeld’s show topped “all of late-night for second consecutive month,” but that claim that comes with a big huge asterisk. While his show had its highest rated quarter, it is a late-night show only in one part of the country, as it is not time delayed for the western time zones. So in Los Angeles, it airs at 8 PM.

Also of note: September marked the first full month of MSNBC’s unusual arrangement in which Rachel Maddow anchors on Mondays at 9 PM ET and Alex Wagner hosts the rest of the weeknights.

In its release, Fox News noted that Hannity beat Wagner “by double and triple-digit advantages.” MSNBC said that the Maddow-Wagner combination averaged 1.7 million total viewers at that hour in Q3, with The Rachel Maddow Show averaging 2.5 million and up 15% year over year. Wagner’s show, the network said, averaged 1.6 million viewers, a 36% increase versus MSNBC Prime, the show that filled the slot since Maddow went to one night a week in May.

The figures are from Nielsen via Fox News and MSNBC.

iOS 16.1 to feature ‘Satellite Connection Demo’ for iPhone 14 users - 9to5Mac

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

As you probably know, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro can communicate with emergency services via satellite. Although this feature won’t be available until November, Apple has been getting ready to release it with iOS 16.1 – which will also include a “Satellite Connection Demo” so that users can try out the satellite connection without actually calling emergency services.

Emergency SOS via Satellite

The company on Tuesday released iOS 16.1 beta 3 to developers. By analyzing the internal files of today’s update, 9to5Mac found that Apple has added multiple features (which are yet to be enabled) related to satellite communication for iPhone 14 models.

It’s unclear at this point whether Emergency SOS via Satellite will be available with iOS 16.1, as the update is expected to be released to the public in November, while Apple says that the satellite features will be made available in November. However, iOS 16.1 beta 3 also reveals something that hasn’t been mentioned before: a “Satellite Connection Demo” feature.

With this feature, users will be able to see how Emergency SOS via Satellite works without having to go to a remote area without Wi-Fi and cellular signal. Code seen by 9to5Mac suggests that the demo feature will work pretty much the same way as Emergency SOS via Satellite, so it can also instruct users on how to use it in a real-life situation.

Satellite Connection Demo can be accessed at any time via the Emergency SOS menu within the Settings app once it becomes available. Users will need to be outside and have a clear view of the sky to find the satellite connection.

Try Satellite Connection Demo. Learn how to connect to a satellite in an emergency. You can always go to Settings > Emergency SOS to try the demo.

Of course, after the iPhone connects to the satellite, it won’t call emergency services when you’re using the demo feature. This is extremely important so that people don’t call these services just for fun or curiosity. It’s worth noting that Emergency SOS via Satellite sends a text message with the location of the device to emergency services or a relay center.

More about iOS 16.1

For those who don’t have an iPhone 14, iOS 16.1 enables battery percentage for more iPhone models such as iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 mini. Apple has tweaked the battery indicator so that it now has a dynamic icon when the percentage is enabled.

The update also adds a Clean Energy Charging option, Live Activities API, early support for the Matter protocol, and the option to delete the Wallet app. For iPad users, today’s beta of iPadOS 16.1 brings Stage Manager for older iPad Pro models with the A12X and A12Z chips.

Intel Innovation Keynote 2022 Cover 1
Intel Innovation Keynote 2022 Cover 1

Today is the Intel Innovation 2022 keynote. At the event, we expect a number of announcements of new technologies to be announced. Also, later this week we should get to show you some of the new data center technology coming.

Note: We are covering this live, so please excuse typos. Also, the WiFi in the keynote is very poor so even uploading photos is challenging.

Intel Innovation 2022 Keynote Day 1

Pat Gelsinger started the keynote by reiterating that Intel is on track for Intel 18A to bring its foundries up to leading in the industry.

Next, Intel discussed UCIe and had brief messages from TSMC and Samsung supporting UCIe. Pat discussed that the future may very well include some parts from Intel, some from TSMC, Samsung, TI, or others. Chiplets are the future, and a big part of that will be the Intel Foundry Services (IFS) business.
