Try it: "Wonder-Size Cadet Demo” hits The Wonderful 101: Remastered - Nintendo Enthusiast

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Gamers, have you played The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Switch? Personally, I wasn’t a fan, but your mileage may vary. If only there was a way for players to try out the title before committing to purchase! As of today, there is one such method. PlatinumGames has announced the “Wonder-Size Cadet Demo” for Switch, and you can download it right now.

The “Wonder-Size Cadet Demo” gives Switch owners a decent taste of The Wonderful 101: Remastered

Check out the official announcement below:

Not only do players gain access to the Prologue and Operation 001 chapters (about two hours of gameplay), but they can also transfer their save data to the full version of The Wonderful 101: Remastered, should they decide they like what they play.

In addition, the game has just been updated and now has a “Wonderful Code” feature. Gamers can input codes to unlock neat stuff in-game. PlatinumGames itself shared some codes: enter UMBRANGIFT to unlock Wonder-Bayonetta as an ally, and input ANGELSLAYERS to gain Wonder-Jeanne and Wonder-Rodin. It’s almost as if Platinum really loves the Bayonetta series.

Enthusiasts, will you take the “Wonder-Size Cadet Demo” for a spin? Let us know of your plans for the superhero adventure in the comment field below.

  • Includes U.S. rights to all men’s and women’s ICC FTP matches played in New Zealand
  • New extension adds matches from New Zealand’s Super Smash domestic T20 league
  • All matches to stream exclusively on ESPN+

ESPN+ has reached a new six-year agreement with New Zealand Cricket for exclusive U.S. rights to all men’s and women’s matches in the International Cricket Council (ICC) matches played in New Zealand, across all three formats. The deal renews an existing six-year agreement, and adds up to 50 matches per season from Super Smash, New Zealand’s domestic T20 league.

New Zealand began hosting West Indies last week Friday in the first tour that is part of the new deal. Other tours scheduled for New Zealand during the 2020-21 season include Pakistan, Bangladesh and rival Australia. Subsequent seasons will be highlighted by tours including India, West Indies, Australia, and England. The six-year deal covers more than 100 scheduled ICC matches, including 23 Tests, 33 ODI and 53 T20.

New Zealand Cricket currently ranks second in the world in the ICC’s Men’s Test Team rankings, third in Men’s ODI, and sixth in Men’s T20 International. The New Zealand Women’s Teams rank fifth in ODI, and fourth in T20 International rankings.

NZC chief executive David White said he was delighted to be renewing the arrangement with such a strong and successful brand.

“The partnership with ESPN will help us extend our teams’ global reach and build closer relationships around the world – which is one of our key objectives. The USA has always been an important market for us and we’re looking forward to continuing to bring top-class cricket to ESPN viewers.”

ESPN+ has offered hundreds of hours of cricket since its launch in 2018, including Test, ODI and T20 cricket featuring Australia, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and more. More psychedelic-y demo version of The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood" - Boing Boing

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

A friend just posted this on Facebook. It's apparently one of the demo versions of "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" featuring the George Harrison sitar part much more prominently in the mix.

Of course, "Norwegian Wood" is known for being The Beatles track where the sitar was first introduced into their music (and into Western popular music). So, it's interesting hearing them messing around with the instrument's presence in the mix. Ultimately, I think they made the right choice.

Bonus Track: Bask in the gorgeous vocal harmonies of Lennon and McCartney on the isolated vocals of the track.

High school cross country: South Lewis' Ielfield, Beaver River's Demo top area runners at Northeast Club event - NNY360

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

South Lewis senior Hannah Ielfield finished sixth overall in the girls championship race at the Northeast Club Cross Country Championship 5K on Saturday at Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery.

Ielfield, who committed to the University of Mississippi earlier in the month, ran the 5-kilometer course in a time of 17 minutes 52.3 seconds. Falcons teammates Brynn Bernard and Lexi Bernard finished 10th and 47th, respectively. Brynn turned in a time of 18:09.8 while Lexi, who was 35th in the championship division race, registered a mark of 19:39.0.

Carthage’s McKinley Fielding placed eighth with a time of 18:07.4. Fielding is a military transfer student who was slated to debut for the Comets before the fall cross country season was scrapped for Jefferson County schools.

South Jefferson’s Alexa Doe finished 12th with a mark of 18:16.6 to complete the local representatives on the girls side. Kate Wiser of Pomperaug, Conn. won the overall crown with a time of 16:46.8. while Brook Rauber of Tully was second.

Beaver River’s Cory Demo was second in the seeded race and 12th overall for boys runners, as he finished the course with a time of 15:57.8 on the 5K course. Colton Kempney placed 10th in the seeded race and 32nd overall with a mark of 16:20.1. Conrad Freed took 48th in the seeded race and 105th overall, while Hunter Moore earned 51st in the seeded race and 110th overall. Conner Zehr got 59th in the seeded race and 124th overall.

Gavin Sherry of West Hartford, Conn., won the overall boys title with a time of 15:13.7, while Peyton Geehrer of Fayetteville-Manlius was second, logging a time of 15:23.7.

The Beavers finished 10th in the overall team competition between the championship and seeded flights. A total of 15 teams competed in the boys division. All local runners in the girls divisions were unattached and not part of a team.

A total of 70 runners from Section 3 participated in the event that was held in Orange County. Normally Thanksgiving weekend features the Nike New York championships or Foot Locker championships, but the current COVID-19 pandemic postponed those races, much like sectional, state and Federation championships this season. Nike did some races as a virtual cross-country series that Beaver River eighth-grader Grace Davis entered.

Only Beaver River and South Lewis took part in a shortened Frontier League cross country season before the end of the fall sports calendar. St. Lawrence County completed most of their season, but the Franklin County schools were forced to drop out due to a rise in coronavirus cases that forced them into remote learning. Indoor track and field for the winter has been placed on hold because of its risk status.

TARGET SHOOTING

The New York State High School Clay Target League announced its fall season awards on Wednesday and several Northern Athletic Conference shooters won notice.

Morristown dominated the 1A Conference 4 category in both the male and female categories.

Trenten Evans finished first in the male category with a season average of 21.8 points over five events. Morristown’s Jarred Young placed third with an average of 21.4.

In the female category, Morristown’s Emilie O’Donnell took second place with an average of 18.3. Morristown’s Emily Gagnon placed third with an 18.2

Morristown finished second overall behind first-place finisher Lisbon in the 1A Conference 4 team standings. Lisbon totaled 2,722 points and Morristown finished with 2297.5.

In the 1A Conference 3 female category, Heuvelton’s Isabella Doyle took third place with an average of 17.3 points.

Conferences were based on team size. Warsaw (Conference 1), East Aurora (Conference 2) and Gowanda (Conference 3) were the overall winners in the other conferences.

LIC employees stage demo in support of farmers protesting in New Delhi - The Hindu

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Expressing solidarity with the farmers protesting against the farm laws in New Delhi, the Life Insurance Corporation employees staged a demonstration in front of their offices in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts on Monday.

In the agitation organised in front of the LIC’s Divisional Office in Palayamkottai, LIC Employees’ Union office-bearers Muthukumarasamy, Madhupaul, Durairaj and others addressed.

The speakers said the farm laws would only help the corporate companies instead of saving farmers, the primary producers. Even as farmers were struggling to stay afloat in the midst of financial meltdown and the pandemic, the Union Government’s move had landed a final blow on the farming sector.

Besides wiping out the livelihood of the agriculturists, the new laws would make the farmers remain as labourers of the corporate.

“Since, farmers will be forced to sign contracts with these companies for selling their produce, the producers cannot fix the selling price. Instead, they will have to sell their produce at the price fixed by the buyers – the corporate firms –who will not even give the price fixed earlier citing a range of measly reasons. They may deny the assured price saying that the produce did not meet their standards or expectations. Over a period of time, small, marginal and even medium-level farmers will become farmhands,” Mr. Muthukumarasamy said.

Sean Connery's cause of death listed as pneumonia, heart problems and 'old age' - Page Six

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

James Bond legend Sean Connery died of pneumonia, heart problems and “old age,” according to his death certificate.

The 90-year-old Hollywood legend died at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 in his home in the Bahamas, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ. His occupation was listed as “retired actor.”

The cause of death was listed as “pneumonia, respiratory failure, old age [and] atrial fibrillation” — the latter being an irregular heart rate that can increase the risk of blood clots, strokes and heart failure.

Connery’s wife of 45 years, Micheline Roquebrune, previously said that he also had a long battle with dementia and “went peacefully.”

The Scottish-born actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, the fictional British secret agent created by author Ian Fleming, playing Agent 007 in seven films, beginning with 1962’s “Dr. No.” He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

The most prolific purveyors of holiday movie cheer are Lifetime — which airs a new holiday film every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 8 p.m. through Dec. 20 — and Hallmark Channel, which has 23 holiday movies airing at 8 p.m. on multiple nights, plus an additional 17 new movies on its Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel at 10 p.m.

In the streaming realm, Netflix is giving Lifetime and Hallmark a run for their money, releasing a torrent of holiday content throughout the fall.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up all of the new holiday movies to check out in 2020, with top picks including a Lifetime title filmed in Massachusetts and a Disney+ title filmed in Boston earlier this year. (Note: If you miss a movie’s original air time, be sure to check out the channel’s website, as many movies are available on-demand with a valid cable login.)

“Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” Netflix

Netflix’s top holiday release is a brand-new musical from writer/director David E. Talbert (“Almost Christmas”) that features original songs by musicians including John Legend. In the quaint town of Cobbleton, toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Forest Whitaker) creates holiday magic with his whimsical inventions. When his apprentice (Keegan Michael-Key, “Key & Peele”) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to Jeronicus’s granddaughter (Madalen Mills) to save the day and help the pair reconcile in the spirit of the holiday season.

“Happiest Season,” Hulu

Hulu’s new release puts a twist on the traditional holiday rom-com, with Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) and Mackenzie Davis (“Irresistible”) playing a lesbian couple at the center of some family yuletide mix-ups. Abby (Stewart) is joining Harper (Davis) at her family Christmas for the first time, and plans to bring joy to the holiday season by proposing. When they arrive, however, Abby discovers that Harper hasn’t told her family that she’s gay or that her and Abby are a couple. Directed by Clea DuVall (“Veep”), “The Happiest Season” includes a great roster of comedic talent that includes Alison Brie (“Glow”), Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”), Daniel Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”), and Mary Steenburgen (“Step Brothers”).

“Godmothered,” Disney+ (Premieres Dec. 4)

If you’re looking for a holiday film with a distinctly Boston flavor to it, Disney+ is here to grant your wish with “Godmothered,” which filmed in Boston, Marblehead, and other nearby towns earlier this year. Set during the Christmas season, “Godmothered” follows a “young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training” (Bell) who is determined to prove that the world still needs her magic even though the fairy godmother profession is facing extinction. After finding a misplaced letter from a 10-year-old girl named Mackenzie, Eleanor heads to Earth to assist her, only to find that Mackenzie (Fisher) is now a 40-year-old single mom working at a TV news station in Boston. Mackenzie has given hope on finding a “happily ever after” after losing her husband several years earlier, but Eleanor is determined to turn around her fortunes.

“Dear Santa,” On-demand (Premieres Dec. 4)

Originally intended to be released in theaters, “Dear Santa” is a documentary from IFC Films that shines a light on the “Operation Santa” program of the United States Postal Service. For the last 100 years, the USPS has enlisted community volunteers to help answer thousands of letters to Santa Claus, making children’s dreams come true nationwide.

“Christmas on Ice,” Lifetime

Topping the list of Lifetime’s Christmas movie offerings is “Christmas on Ice,” which was filmed in Worcester in February. The plot follows a former pro figure skater named Courtney (Abigail Klein), who runs the city’s skating rink. When the mayor says he’ll have to shut the rink down due to budgetary reasons, Courtney contacts Noah (Ryan Cooper), a former pro hockey player and single dad who just opened a new indoor skating center. Together, they must save the rink and its annual holiday show.

“Love, Lights, Hanukkah!,” Hallmark (Premieres Dec. 12)

Of Hallmark Channel’s 23 new holiday movies, which air regularly at 8 p.m., “Love, Lights, Hanukkah!” is the rare title that explores holiday traditions outside of Christmas. As restaurant owner Christina (Mia Kirshner) prepares her restaurant for the holiday rush, she discovers that she is Jewish thanks to the results of a DNA test. The revelation leads her to a new family and a budding romance that unfolds over eight magical nights.

Immortals Fenyx Rising (Stadia Demo) Preview | GWW - Geeks World Wide

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Although the demos main objective leads to a final battle with the Cyclops, I was surprised at what else the demo (and game) offered.  This is truly an open world and there is so much to discover.  Along the way I managed to acquire a new bow, axe, sword, helmet, armor and pair of wings.  I still suspect the demo hides a new mount but I wanted to write my review.

Six people sent to hospital after unknown smell prompts evacuation of Amazon building in California - CNN

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
More than 100 employees were evacuated from the building on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m. ET) while the hazmat teams checked the facility, the company said.
The hazmat teams did not find anything dangerous and allowed employees to return to the building within an hour, Amazon said.
"We evacuated our building today out of an abundance of caution," said Amazon spokeswoman Lisa Levandowski in statement emailed to CNN. "The safety of our employees and delivery partners is our top priority. We appreciate all the efforts of our local first responders today."
Six employees reported not feeling well and were taken to a local hospital, according to Amazon. They are doing fine, the company said.
As a precaution, Amazon turned off the air conditioning units at the facility. It is investigating the cause of the odor, it said.
Eastvale is located in Riverside County about 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Devin Townsend Shares Demo of New Track, "Equinox" - MetalSucks

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Devin Townsend has released a demo of a new track titled “Equinox.” The demo features musicians that performed live with him on the Volume 1 tour that was cut short by the pandemic earlier this year, including:

Drums: Morgan Ågren
Bass: Nathan Navarro
Additional Vocals: Che Dorval
Additional Keys: Diego Tejeida

Volume 1 was supposed to be the first of several tours that saw Devin performing different material from throughout his career with varying live lineups suited to each tour.

Devin offered of “Equinox:”

“I wrote this one a few months ago, its a work in progress and this is a demo. I may use it for an album at some point, but Its cathartic, this one… Hang in there folks…no shame in feeling what we feel.”

Devin has been incredibly productive during quarantine, hosting a series of livestreams, launching a podcast, streaming on Twitch and informally releasing a whole lot of new material, including a recent cut called “Precious Sardine” and a cover of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night.” He also revealed earlier this month that he is working on a new album titled The Puzzle.

Devin will host another livestream, A Very Devy Christmas, on December 23; tickets are available here.

Be thankful for Carson Wentz, Joel Embiid, and six other blessings in Philadelphia sports | Marcus Hayes - The Philadelphia Inquirer

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Since the Sixers won the NBA title in 1983, Philadelphia teams have won just two of a possible 136 championships in the four major sports. That’s 1.5%.

As it turns out, plenty.

1. Carson Wentz

Maybe it’s outrageous to encourage appreciation for the most underperforming player in the NFL, but if you ignore, for one moment, the current standings, you’ll realize that Carson Wentz remains a precious thing: A big, smart, tough, young, athletic quarterback with a strong arm. They are the rarest thing in sports.

How many exist today? Other than Wentz, no more than 12, depending on how you feel about Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, and Tua Tagovailoa. So, including Wentz, a lucky 13. Would you rather be the Jaguars? The Jets? The Saints, hoping Taysom Hill can be Drew Brees’ successor? Nick Foles’ Chicago Bears?

Thanksgiving involves nourishing hope as much as grateful reflection. Wentz provides hope.

Yes, his 73.3 passer rating and his 58.4 completion percentage rank worst among qualifying quarterbacks. Consider it an aberration. His 98.3 rating between 2017 and 2019 was sixth among quarterbacks with at least 31 starts, and his 64.4 completion rate was 12th.

We have seen competence from Wentz when he is fortified by protection and when outfitted with weapons. There is hope that we will see competence again.

Be thankful for that hope.

2. Joel Embiid

Ego, appetite, irreverence: “The Process” certainly has his flaws. But at 7-foot and 280 pounds, Joel Embiid projects as a 26-year-old hybrid of Shaquille O’Neal and Hakeem Olajuwon. If properly conditioned and properly coached, Embiid could be a fusion of athleticism, power, and skill never before seen in the NBA, destined for MVPs if he ever deciphers double-teams. He also speaks his mind, both to his rivals and his bosses. That’s refreshing, if not always diplomatic.

3. Bryce Harper

The grind of baseball requires daily swagger. From the epic hair on his head to his Phanatic-clad toes, Harper brings swagger every day. Production, too. He cost John Middleton $330 million of “stupid money,” but Harp made the Phillies relevant when he signed two years ago. And, like Embiid, he tells the truth, as he sees it.

4. Carter Hart

For more than two decades, since the end of the second installment of Ron Hextall, this has been the common wisdom surrounding the Flyers’ chance to win their first Stanley Cup since 1975: A franchise goaltender will be the final piece. Frankly, a franchise goaltender should always have been the first priority. Hart, 22, makes the Flyers true contenders for the first time since he was born, in 1998.

5. Joe Girardi and Doc Rivers

As players and coaches they have dealt with prima donnas, professionals, and punks, and they’ve been successful. Girardi did it in New York with Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez. Rivers did it in Boston and in Los Angeles with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Chris Paul, and Kawhi Leonard. The Phillies and Sixers could not be better led.

6. Brandon Graham

No one has filled the leadership void that opened when the Eagles let go safety Malcolm Jenkins, but Graham has done his best. He’s also having a career year in his 11th season, at the age of 32: seven sacks and 11 tackles for losses in 10 games.

7. Zack Wheeler

In the first season of a five-year, $118 million contract, Wheeler posted a 4-2 record with a 2.92 earned-run average in his 10 starts during the COVID-shortened season. He ranked No. 3 in wins above replacement among all major-leaguers and No. 2 among pitchers. Aaron Nola’s a front-end starter. Wheeler’s an ace.

8. The Union

From manager Jim Curtin and down through the roster, the soccer club stands as a shining example of homegrown excellence. The other Philly franchises should take note.

9. Ben Simmons

This guy would be so good if the Sixers ever got him a point guard.

Honorable mention

Daryl Morey, who has done some flashy things as the Sixers’ newest asset manager, and who desperately needs to shave; Fletcher Cox, formerly elite defensive tackle, now getting killed against the run; Jason Kelce, still solid and still tough at center at 33; Nola; Alec Bohm, the first baseman of the future who should have been rookie of the year; Kevin Hayes, who commanded the Flyers’ dressing room in his first season; Claude Giroux, who becomes a better captain as his skills wane; centerman Sean Couturier, still the best player on the team; and Alain Vigneault, who reintroduced accountability.

Six more chairs running at Vail, Beaver Creek - Vail Daily News

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

In September, when Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz answered questions from investment banks in a quarterly call, one person had an unusual request.

“Hopefully you’ll have the Cascade lift running early this year,” said Patrick Scholes, a Wall Street analyst at Truist Financial.

“Absolutely, we’ll make sure to do that,“ Katz replied.

The Cascade Village chair began operating for the season on Saturday, adding a new loading option for Vail Mountain skiers and snowboarders. John LaConte
jlaconte@vaildaily.com.

The Cascade Village chair and Pride Express are not often a high priority for the mountain; in 2016, those chairs did not open until mid-December, after the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin had opened for the season.

But this is a much different season, and more base areas open means more space for guests to disperse, even if those base area openings don’t translate into actual terrain openings.

Such is the case with Vail’s Saturday opening of the Cascade and Pride Express chairs; while those openings added another base village from which guests can enter the mountain, the mountain’s total terrain offering remained at 272 acres with the opening of the new chairs, said John Plack, senior communications manager for Vail and Beaver Creek.

Beaver Creek: From Avon to top of Cinch

Beaver Creek also began offering access from a new base area on Saturday with the opening of The Landing at Lower Beaver Creek Mountain Express (No. 15).

That option not only makes the already running Bachelor Gulch lift more easily accessible, it makes the bus ride a lot shorter for guests who are parking in the Bear Lot.

Beaver Creek Communications Manager Jessie Vandenhouten said the resort is making efforts to use snowmaking to create a larger footprint to disperse crowds.

“Skiers and riders will be able to access Bachelor Gulch and Beaver Creek from the Landing/Chair 15,” Vandenhouten said, in an email. “Skier access is available from Bachelor Gulch to Beaver Creek for intermediate skiers and above via Intertwine, but there is currently no ski/ride access from Beaver Creek to Bachelor Gulch (guests must utilize village transportation).”

Vandenhouten also offered a tip for guests looking to access Bachelor Gulch from Beaver Creek: “For guests looking to head back to Bachelor Gulch prior to 3:30 p.m., they can utilize the Bear Lot shuttle (rather than Village Connect) for quick access to Beaver Creek Landing (and ride Lower Beaver Creek Mountain Express (#15) to Bachelor Gulch).”

Guests can also access the landing from the Avon town core through the Riverfront Gondola Express (No. 7), which opened on Saturday, as well.

Beaver Creek also began offering top-to-bottom skiing on Saturday with the opening of the Red Buffalo Express Lift (No. 5) and the Cinch Express Lift (No. 8).

Melania Trump to possibly pen memoir on time spent in the White House - Page Six

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

President Trump may not be the only one in the White House cashing in with a book deal after his presidency.

Sources exclusively tell Page Six that usually private Melania Trump has been taking meetings about penning a tome on her time as first lady.

“Melania is in meetings to write her White House memoir,” an insider said. “And it would be her money — a chance for her to earn on her own.”

The source added, “I’m told her husband is encouraging her” to pen the book. “She’s not done, or going as quietly as you might expect.” Plus, “in the wake of Stephanie Winston Wolkoff’s betrayal, in both print and on secret tapes, Melania’s story could be worth big money.”

Wolkoff was once Melania’s best friend and adviser who published the tell-all “Melania and Me” in September. Melania blasted Wolkoff in an essay last month published on the White House Web site, calling her a “dishonest opportunist” who “clung” to Melania for fame. Wolkoff also released embarrassing tapes of conversations with Melania. But Melania fired back that the recordings were “out of context,” and that the book was “idle gossip trying to distort my character.”

The Justice Department then announced it was suing Wolkoff for allegedly violating a nondisclosure agreement with the book.

A book from Melania could set the record straight on some of her notable White House episodes — from that infamous “I really don’t care, do u?” jacket that she wore in 2018 to enduring a coronavirus infection.

The book business surrounding the Trumps — pro and con — has been booming. We recently exclusively reported that Trump relative Mary L. Trump is already shopping a follow-up to her best-selling tell-all, “Too Much and Never Enough,” and that President Trump could land a multimillion-dollar book deal himself after leaving office.

A White House rep did not get back to us.

Six more county residents die of COVID-19 - The Altamont Enterprise

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

ALBANY COUNTY — Six more county residents have died of COVID-19 since Friday, Albany County’s executive, Daniel McCoy reported on Saturday morning. This brings the county’s death toll to 157.

At the same time, a reconciliation of data with Albany Medical Center and St. Peter’s Hospital found 18 new county residents are hospitalized with the disease, increasing the total of current hospitalizations to 61. Twelve of the 18 cases were newly admitted to the hospital on or after Nov. 25.

“Sadly, once again, we’ve shattered our previous record for the number of people hospitalized in part because of a new system that’s been put in place that ensures we’re getting timely, accurate data from our hospital partners,” said McCoy.

The reconciliation found an increase of 45 hospitalizations since the outbreak began in March, increasing from 474 to 519. The county’s hospitalization rate is now at 1.09 percent.

Only one of the six people who died of COVID-19 since yesterday was a nursing home resident, McCoy said. The victims include a woman in her fifties, a man in his sixties, a man and a woman in their seventies, and a man and a woman in their eighties.

“To lose six residents overnight is alarming …,” said McCoy. “We have to be more vigilant now than we ever have before.”

May 4 is the last time the county suffered six deaths in one day, he said.

McCoy also announced 67 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, down from recent highs, but noted testing sites may not have worked a full day on Friday with the Thanksgiving holiday.

As of Nov. 26, McCoy said, the seven-day rolling average for the percent of positive test results for Albany County is 3.6 percent. The state has set up a micro-cluster system where restrictions are imposed if an area is at or above the 3-percent threshold for 10 days.

If that seven-day rolling average holds, Albany County, or parts of it, may be declared a yellow zone, the least restrictive among the red, orange, and yellow micro-cluster zones.

The state mines its data to designate which areas are named as zones. “We won’t know until they tell us,” said McCoy.

He also said, “I’m begging you: Do the right thing.”

Mccoy went over a list of the leading causes of death each year in the United States. COVID-19 was third on the list with over 263,000 deaths so far this year, after heart disease, which causes about 655,000 deaths a year, and cancer at more than 599,000 deaths.

COVID-19 already is far ahead of accidents at 167,000, strokes at 147,000, and Alzheimer’s disease at 122,000.

“Every hour, an estimated 65 Americans die of COVID-19,” said McCoy.

“I’m not trying to scare you. I just want to educate you …,” said McCoy. “Get the facts straight … and you can decide … Numbers don’t lie.”

He concluded, “the bad behavior of a few people are making this worse.”

“Dark month”

“November was a dark month and it has positioned us unfortunately very poorly for the upcoming holiday season ...,” said Albany County Health Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen. “People need to know this could get a lot worse before it gets better.”

The uptick recently in hospitalizations, apart from the new methodology, means “people that have COVID are becoming more ill,” said Whalen.

As she had on Friday, Whalen again shared her concerns about hospitals not having the capacity to handle all the people who need treatment. Whalen said it is essential to get flu shots to keep flu cases out of the hospital.

She also said, “This is historically a month when people do a lot of socializing.”

She added, “We cannot afford for things to get worse.”

Although doses of a vaccine may be available as early as three weeks from now, vaccinations will be administered on a tiered basis, Whalen said, so the general public may not be vaccinated until late spring or early summer.

Referencing the six newly-announced deaths, Whalen said, “It can be prevented by you.”

She also said that the numbers being reported by Albany County are in all likelihood underreported.

She again stressed that many people don’t have symptoms and unwittingly spread the disease and others spread the disease in the two days before their symptoms appear.

The county, she noted, does not have the ability to test everyone twice a week, which would be the only way to have an accurate report of the number of residents infected with COVID-19.

Asked about Black Friday shoppers crowding into stores, Whalen advised that anyone concerned about exposure get tested four to seven days after and then later in the incubation period, between 10 and 12 days after the potential exposure.

Newest numbers

As of Saturday morning, Albany county has 5,558 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Mccoy said.

Of the 67 new cases, 15 had close contact with someone infected with the disease, 51 did not have a clear source of infection identified at this time and one is a health-care worker or resident of a congregate setting.

Currently, 2,311 county residents are under quarantine, down from 2,480. The five-day average for new daily positives increased to 103.4 from 99.2.

There are now 915 active cases in the county, down from 964 on Friday. So far, 22,740 county residents have completed quarantine. Of those, 4,643 had tested positive and recovered.

Statewide, the positive rate, based on Friday’s test results, was 3.98 percent, which includes the 5.65 percent in the mover-sampled micro-cluster zones.

The Capital Region, of which Albany County is a part, had a seven-day average of 2.76. Ther lowest remains the Southern Tier, at 1.73 percent, and the highest of the state’s 10 regions is Western New York at 6.53 percent.

Baltimore Ravens add six more to reserve/COVID-19 list; total up to 18 this week - ESPN

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens placed six players on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, causing some to wonder whether they can field a competitive team in Tuesday's game against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the midst of one of the biggest outbreak in sports, the Ravens have now put 18 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, including reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. Baltimore has had seven straight days with at least one positive test, including at least one Saturday, according to a source.

The Ravens have 20 players total on the reserve/COVID-19 list as quarterback Trace McSorley and injured cornerback Iman Marshall had been on the list since before this week.

The coronavirus has decimated Baltimore's roster to the point where the Ravens are currently left with two quarterbacks, six offensive linemen and three defensive linemen on their current active and practice squad rosters. Baltimore currently has 52 available players, 38 on its 53-man roster and 14 on the practice squad.

"We are in the midst of a trial but we are built for this!" wide receiver Willie Snead IV tweeted. "Keep pressing on."

On Saturday, the six players placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list were: linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, offensive linemen D.J. Fluker and Will Holden, defensive lineman Broderick Washington and injured cornerbacks Khalil Dorsey and Tavon Young.

The Ravens (6-4), who have lost three of their past four games, are set to play the Steelers and Dallas Cowboys over the next nine days.

The outbreak in Baltimore has already caused the Ravens' Week 12 game against the Steelers to get postponed twice to Tuesday and led to their Week 13 game against the Cowboys to get moved to Monday, Dec. 7.

With many of those on Baltimore's reserve/COVID-list required to quarantine for 10 days, there's a chance that a majority of those players, including Jackson, will be available to play against the Cowboys.

The Ravens haven't been on the practice field since Tuesday, when their facility was closed at noon. All activities have been virtual ever since.

The 18 players placed on the Ravens' reserve/COVID-19 list this week have accounted for 66 starts and 3,918 snaps this season.

"The Corona is everywhere ain't no stopping it lol," tweeted cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

Steelers place RB James Conner on COVID list; Ravens add six players to list - The Boston Globe

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Steelers running back James Conner (30) was placed on the team's injured reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, joining three other Pittsburgh teammates already on the list, while the Ravens placed six more players on its COVID-19 list.Gary McCullough/Associated Press

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed running back James Conner on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, while their scheduled opponent next Tuesday, the division rival Baltimore Ravens, added six more players to the list. Conner is joining three teammates already on the list along with 20 Ravens — they are down to three defensive linemen — casting further doubt on the ability to pull off a game rescheduled from Thanksgiving night to Sunday to Tuesday night. Conner, who leads the unbeaten Steelers (10-0) with 645 yards rushing and five touchdowns, joins defensive end Stephon Tuitt, defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs and reserve offensive lineman Kevin Dotson on the COVID-19 list. The Steelers also announced special teams coordinator Danny Smith will not coach on Tuesday due to what the team described as an “illness.” Quarterbacks coach Matt Canada will also be unavailable due to an illness. The announcement came the same day Baltimore Ravens put outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, right tackle D.J. Fluker, defensive lineman Broderick Washington, offensive lineman Will Holden, and two others — defensive backs Khalil Dorsey and Tavon Young — were on injured reserve before joining the list. The Ravens already had several starters on the COVID-19 list, including quarterback Lamar Jackson and running backs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins. The Ravens also added receiver Dez Bryant to the 53-man roster and signed defensive back Pierre Desir to the practice squad.

Dolphins downgrade Tagovailoa to doubtful

Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s game at the New York Jets, meaning it’s likely veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his first start since Oct. 18. Tagovailoa hurt the thumb on his throwing hand in practice Wednesday and was limited in subsequent workouts this week. Tagovailoa’s status was downgraded Saturday, and Miami elevated quarterback Reid Sinnett from the practice squad to the active roster to reinforce depth at the position . . . The Cincinnati Bengals added quarterback Kevin Hogan to the practice squad. The Bengals needed a third quarterback on the roster after losing rookie Joe Burrow to a season-ending knee injury last week . . . The Los Angeles Chargers activated running back Austin Ekeler from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game at Buffalo. Ekeler has missed the past six games after suffering a hamstring injury during the first half of an Oct. 4 loss at Tampa Bay . . . The NFL suspended Los Angeles Rams cornerback Tyrique McGhee without pay for two games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. McGhee had been on the Rams’ practice squad all season . . . The New Orleans Saints placed starting left tackle Terron Armstead on their COVID-19 reserve list, leaving him ineligible for Sunday’s game against the Broncos in Denver. The Saints also ruled out return specialist Deonte Harris, who had been listed as questionable a day earlier because of neck injury that kept him out of practice this past week . . .The Indianapolis Colts will be without running back Jonathan Taylor against visiting Tennessee. Taylor is one of three Indy starters sitting out the important AFC south matchup because of COVID-19, joining Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and defensive end Denico Autry on the list . . . The Las Vegas Raiders said running backs coach Kirby Wilson won’t coach this week because of COVID-19-related reasons. He will miss the game at Atlanta. The Raiders currently have three players on the COVID-19 list: running back Theo Riddick, tackle Trent Brown and defensive back Lamarcus Joyner.

49ers may have to seek temporary home

The San Francisco 49ers and other teams may need to find a temporary new home after Santa Clara County banned all contact sports from holding games and practices for the next three weeks. County officials issued the directives in response to rising cases of the coronavirus in the area. The rules take effect Monday and will last for three weeks. The 49ers have home games scheduled for Dec. 7 against Buffalo and Dec. 13 against Washington at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The team also practices at that site in the county. The team had no immediate comment on the new rules . . . Browns chief of staff Callie Brownson will handle game-day duties for Cleveland’s tight ends on Sunday in Jacksonville, a first in team history for a female. Brownson, who was hired by Browns coach Kevin Stefanski shortly after he came to Cleveland earlier this year, will fill in for coach Drew Petzing, who did not travel with the team after his wife, Louisa, gave birth to the couple’s first child.

NBA outlines coronavirus protocols

NBA players who test positive for the coronavirus this season may have to miss nearly two weeks in some instances before being allowed to return to the court, the league told its teams in a 63,000-word document, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, that explained some of the heath and safety protocols for the looming season. Preseason games begin Dec. 11 and regular-season contests start Dec. 22. The document still needs to be ratified by the league and the National Basketball Players Association, but at least provides some sort of blueprint for the start of training camps in the coming days. All players who will be part of training camp need to begin a testing program by Monday — many were expected to start it Saturday — and teams can begin holding mandated group workouts sometime between Dec. 4 and Dec. 6. Players, coaches and other key staff are expected to be tested daily in most cases . . .

Noel scores 35 in setback for UMass Lowell

Obadiah Noel scored a career-high 35 points for the UMass Lowell men’s basketball team but it wasn’t enough as the River Hawks (1-1) suffered an 82-72 setback against Illinois State at Columbus, Ohio. The 6-foot-4-inch senior guard connected on 12 of 29 shots, including 4 of 10 from 3-point range, for UMass Lowell while Connor Withers added 11 points and nine rebounds. Josiah Strong led the Redbirds (1-1) with 21 points . . . Jalen Johnson , a 6-foot-9 freshman, had 19 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks to help No. 9 Duke overcome a turnover-filled performance and beat Coppin State, 81-71, in a delayed season-opener for both teams. Fellow rookie DJ Steward scored 24 points for the Blue Devils, including a key 3-pointer with 2:02 left that helped keep Duke in control during an unexpectedly tight finish.

Liverpool’s VAR setback leads to draw at Brighton

Already angered by fixture timings in a congested schedule and hindered by a long injury list in his squad, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was given another reason to be unhappy following the latest contentious incident involving VAR in the English Premier League. The champions dropped two points after conceding a goal from a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time in a 1-1 draw at Brighton on Saturday. The spot kick was awarded following an intervention by the video assistant referee, who previously ruled out two Liverpool goals at Amex Stadium for offside — one of which couldn’t have been tighter against Mohamed Salah. “You cannot imagine how many things are hard to take [at] the moment,” said Klopp, whose list of grievances have grown by the day . . . Conor Gallagher scored in the 13th minute to help West Bromwich Albion score its first win in the English Premier League in a 1-0 triumph over still winless Sheffield United in a battle of two teams trying to climb out of the relegation zone.
