It's been the center of multiple WDSU investigations — the rotting Plaza Tower on Howard Avenue in New Orleans.Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she wants the eyesore redeveloped but is exploring the idea of having it torn down if necessary. “We don’t know how much it’s going to cost. Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake finally coming alongside free demo, says insider - GAMINGbible

It seems as though fans of classic Resident Evil have something to look forward to after one insider recently revealed the news of an upcoming Resident Evil - Code: Veronica remake.

Originally released in 2000 for the Dreamcast console, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica was the fourth main instalment in the much-loved survival horror series. Players took on the role of Claire Redfield and her brother, Chris as they attempted to survive a viral outbreak at a remote prison island in Antarctica.

Despite being over twenty-years old, Veronica is still enjoyed by players to this day thanks to its epic soundtrack, challenging yet fun gameplay and that hint of nostalgia. Despite this, fans have been begging Capcom for a remake as a way of fixing the title’s janky controls and outdated fixed-camera feature.

Luckily, their prayers may have been answered thanks to news recently revealed by one insider over on Reddit. The insider in question revealed that they were recently a play tester for Resident Evil - Code: Veronica and that they were going to share some information about their experience with the remake.

“I played only a short demo provided by developers to test and give feedback to new mechanics,” they stated.

The insider then reveals that the remake begins with Claire as she is searching for her brother after an explosion. After a “slow-paced tutorial” where Claire searches offices and escapes guards, she is captured and sent to Rockfort Island.

Once in prison and after being released from her cell by a character called Ricardo, Claire meets fellow prisoner Steve who she reluctantly agrees to release. After the island is attacked, the pair escape together and enter a safe room where the player can then choose to switch between both Claire and Steve.

Both characters have their own unique skills - Claire is handy with knives whilst Steve prefers to dual wield pistols. Additionally, Claire is good with puzzles and Steve is your best bet for any stealth. The insider also reveals that the Resident Evil - Code: Veronica remake is a “3rd person game similar to BIOHAZARD RE:2”.

It remains to be seen if this news is to be believed but with fans begging for a remake over the past twenty years, Capcom has the chance to make its fanbase very happy.

AEW Dynamite Viewership Rises, Demo Dips On 11/22 - Wrestlezone

AEW Dynamite viewership increased on November 22.

Wrestlenomics reports that 845,000 viewers tuned in on Wednesday. This number is up from last week, when 823,000 viewers watched the show.

In the 18 to 49 demographic, Dynamite scored a 0.26 rating. This marks a decrease from last week (0.28 rating in the same demographic).

The November 22 episode of AEW Dynamite featured the beginning of the AEW Continental Classic. Jon Moxley faced Mark Briscoe, Swerve Strickland clashed with Jay Lethal, and RUSH took on Jay White.

Elsewhere on the show, Orange Cassidy, HOOK, and Katsuyori Shibata faced Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Jake Hager. Plus, AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm gave her championship acceptance speech.

The viewership numbers are in for the November 22nd edition of AEW Dynamite.

According to WrestleNomics, the episode drew 845,000 average viewers, an increase of 3% from the November 15th episode, which was at 823,000. They scored a rating of 0.26 in the 18-49 demographic, which was down 8% from the November 22nd rating of 0.28.

This was the Full Gear fallout edition of Dynamite, which launched the beginning of the Continental Classic tournament and was headlined by Mark Briscoe battling Jon Moxley. The show also confirmed the headlining bout for the promotion’s first-ever Worlds End pay-per-view this December.

The AEW Dynamite numbers got delayed due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Wrestling Headlines will continue to provide the viewership numbers for all AEW programming. Stay tuned.

'Gore Doctor' Development Update Focuses on Fear; Demo Available Now - Bloody Disgusting

Alongside the 25th Anniversary Update released last week for Half-Life, Valve also gave Counter-Strike a fresh coat of paint with its own update. However, in doing so, Valve also gave Left 4 Dead fans a bit of a present in the form of the first prototype of the co-op zombie shooter that originated as a Counter-Strike mod.

Per X user Gabe Follower, Valve’s update for Counter-Strike, which gave players the ability to “support many of the features from the Half-Life 25th Anniversary update”, also included the earliest form of Left 4 Dead: a mod which was referred to as “Terror Strike” when it was in development.

Gabe Follower went on to say that a user named “The One Epicplayer” was able to port the zombie_city map and did the bot navigation mesh, giving Counter-Strike players the additional treat of being able to see what Turtle Rock Studios had come up with during their brainstorming in the mid 2000s.

The mod goes like this: The terrorist with the bomb must make it to the house and plant the bomb. All the while, they have to deal with zombies (or the Counter Terrorists in this case), which will respawn after being killed. Once the bomb is planted, every zombie will respawn and a horde will come for the terrorists. The terrorist team must endure the horde by killing all of the zombies. The round is won when all zombies are killed while the bomb is planted.

Dr Wahid Asif Shaida, who has practiced as a family GP in north west London since 2002, is also UK leader of the extremist Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT), which is banned in Germany and a dozen other countries.

Using the name Abdul Wahid he addressed a rally outside the Egyptian and Turkish embassies in London last month during which he told the crowd: “Victory is coming and everyone has to choose a side. Whose side are you going to be on?”

A video clip showed people in the crowd chanting “Jihad! Jihad! Jihad!’” after the speeches. The Met found no offences were identified in the clip.

The GP was also present at a protest by HT outside the Egyptian Embassy on Saturday, where supporters of the group held up a banner reading: “Muslim Armies! Rescue the People of Palestine” and chanted: “Muslim armies isn’t it time?”

He told the crowd that liberation would mean a “system that allowed Muslim, Jew and Christian to live side by side in peace and respect with everyone having rights”.

Police had earlier handed out leaflets urging the 100-odd demonstrators not to use racist terms or incite hatred to “avoid ending up in our cells”.

Investigation launched 

The General Medical Council and NHS England have now launched an investigation into Dr Shaida after “concerns” were raised.

A spokesperson for NHS North West London (NHSNWL) said: “We are aware of media reports of a serious nature relating to public comments allegedly made by a clinician in North West London. The conduct of individual practitioners sits with NHSE and the GMC. Both are aware of the concerns raised and are investigating the matter.

NHSNWL added: “We are actively engaging with the practice and NHS England. NHS North West London abhors anti-Semitism and has written to all GP practices in North West London reminding them of the zero tolerance approach that we expect all staff working in GP practices to adopt towards anti-Semitism or Islamophobia.”

In the days after Hamas gunmen massacred more than 1,400 Israelis on October 7, HT’s Facebook page praised the attack as having “ignited a wave of joy and elation among Muslims globally”.

Praised ‘brave mujahideen’ 

In a talk on YouTube Dr Shaida later praised the “brave mujahideen”, or fighters, who “gave the enemy a punch on the nose, and it’s a very welcome punch on the nose”.

Patients at Dr Shaida’s Harrow based practice GP Direct are understood to have raised concerns about him being allowed to practice there, given his views.

His profile on the surgery’s website states: “Dr Wahid Shaida has worked as a salaried GP at the practice since 2002. His special interests lie in the field of medical education. He is a GP trainer for recently qualified doctors. He is currently the information governance and complaints lead within the practice.”

Dr Shaida, who has confirmed he was also known as Abdul Wahid, has denied his HT group is extremist, saying the word is used as a “pejorative term”.

Speaking last month he added: “I attend to my professional duties and commitments diligently, aiming for the best care of my patients at all times. For reasons of professional probity I keep a very clear line between my professional and political life.”

He said HT was calling on the Muslim world to intervene militarily to rescue the people of Gaza “who have been subjected to horrific conditions for 16 years”.

‘Encouraging terrorism’

Responding to criticism from the then Home Secretary Suella Braverman, Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, has previously stated that chanting ‘jihad’ is not in itself a crime.

But the Government’s adviser on counter terror legislation has said such chants can be prosecuted as encouraging terrorism.

In a report published on Wednesday, Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said he did not believe there was any need to toughen anti-terror laws in the wake of the national pro-Palestine protests.

He said this was especially the case “if terrorist attacks had already been carried out in support of the speaker’s cause, and members of the public might reasonably see a chant of jihad as encouragement to carry out their own act of terrorism in the UK or overseas,” he added.

“Jihad has benign meanings but, in this context, would likely refer to violence.”

Dr Shaida was contacted for comment.

China has launched an Internet Technology test satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China's Sichuan Province.

The Long March 2D rocket launched at 1800 Beijing Time (1000 UTC) on November 23, marking the 498th mission of the Long March carrier rocket series. It is China's 54th rocket launch this year, according to China Daily.

China's various media mouthpieces said the payload consisted of a single satellite, and its description suggests the purpose is for testing technology to be used for the nation's version of mega-constellations, such as Starlink and the soon-to-be-launched Project Kuiper.

Although the dimensions of the satellite remain shrouded in mystery – China only confirmed the mission once the payload was successfully launched – the Long March 2D is capable of sending a 1.3-ton spacecraft into a Sun-synchronous orbit with an altitude of 700km.

Another payload, also dubbed the "Space-based Internet Technology Demonstrator," was launched on a Long March 2C from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on July 9. As with yesterday's launch, the payload's purpose was to "carry out test missions for satellite internet technologies."

While Chinese authorities claimed a single satellite was launched on the July 9 mission, two objects have since been cataloged.

Although not confirmed by authorities, it's likely that the technology being tested is for China's mega-constellation project, named Guowang. Guowang is planned to consist of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit to facilitate telecommunication and internet coverage.

It is, however, taking a while to set up. According to Shanghai Securities News, in 2021 Bao Weimin, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Aerospace Science and Technology Group, said: "We are planning and developing space internet satellites, and have launched test satellites."

More than two years later, it appears testing is still under way. However, it means astronomers will soon have even more objects in the sky to worry about should Guowang proceed as planned. ®

The heat is on! NASA's 'flawless' heat shield demo passes the test

A little more than a year ago, a NASA flight test article came screaming back from space at more than 18,000 mph, reaching temperatures of nearly 2,700°F before gently splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. At that moment, it became the largest blunt body—a type of reentry vehicle that creates a heat-deflecting shockwave—ever to reenter Earth's atmosphere.

The Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID) launched on Nov. 10, 2022, aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket and successfully demonstrated an inflatable heat shield. Also known as a Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (HIAD) aeroshell, this technology could allow larger spacecraft to safely descend through the atmospheres of celestial bodies like Mars, Venus, and even Saturn's moon, Titan.

"Large-diameter aeroshells allow us to deliver critical support hardware, and potentially even crew, to the surface of planets with atmospheres. This capability is crucial for the nation's ambition of expanding human and robotic exploration across our solar system," said Trudy Kortes, director of the Technology Demonstrations Missions (TDM) program within the agency's Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

NASA has been developing HIAD technologies for over a decade, including two smaller scale suborbital flight tests before LOFTID. In addition to this successful tech demo, NASA is investigating future applications, including partnering with commercial companies to develop technologies for small satellite reentry, aerocapture, and cislunar payloads.

"This was a keystone event for us, and the short answer is: It was highly successful," said LOFTID Project Manager Joe Del Corso. "Our assessment of LOFTID concluded with the promise of what this technology may do to empower the exploration of deep space."

Due to the success of the LOFTID tech demo, NASA announced under its Tipping Point program that it would partner with ULA to develop and deliver the "next size up," a larger 12-meter HIAD aeroshell for recovering the company's Vulcan engines from low Earth orbit for reuse.

A successful test in the books, a video recap

The LOFTID team recently held a post-flight analysis assessment of the flight test at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Their verdict?

Upon recovery, the team discovered LOFTID appeared pristine, with minimal damage, meaning its performance was, as Del Corso puts it, "Just flawless."

Here are some interesting visual highlights from LOFTID's flight test.

To get to atmospheric reentry, LOFTID had to go through an intricate sequence of events. Del Corso compared it to a Rube Goldberg device, a complex machine designed to carry out simple tasks through a series of chain reactions.

As LOFTID reentered Earth's atmosphere and reached nearly 2,700°F, the extreme heat caused gases around it to ionize and form plasma. On the right, the images from the center body cameras became extremely bright in the , while the Earth is visible on infrared cameras as the vehicle rotated.

The camera captured footage of the plasma quickly changing colors from orange to purple. Why the color change? "We're still investigating exactly what causes that," said John DiNonno, LOFTID chief engineer. The animation on the left shows an artist's concept of what the front side may have looked like.

This video, captured by NASA Langley's Scientifically Calibrated In-Flight Imagery team, shows LOFTID during peak deceleration as the plasma recedes. On the left, LOFTID streaks through the night sky over the Pacific Ocean. On the right, the purple coloration flares up on the back side of LOFTID.

In the second part of the video, the left shifts to one of the cameras looking at the back of the aeroshell, with the receding plasma streaking at its edge.

After slowing down from more than 18,000 mph to less than 80 mph, LOFTID deployed its parachutes.

From an infrared camera aboard the recovery ship, this video shows the parachute deployment and splashdown just over the horizon. The preflight animation is provided on the right for comparison.

LOFTID splashed down in the Pacific Ocean several hundred miles off the east coast of Hawaii and only about eight miles from the recovery ship's bow—almost exactly as modeled. A crew got on a small boat and retrieved and hoisted LOFTID onto the recovery ship.

"The LOFTID mission was important because it proved the cutting-edge HIAD design functioned successfully at an appropriate scale and in a relevant environment," said Tawnya Laughinghouse, manager of the TDM program office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Deadline looms as St. Louis University eyes demo for Olive Street buildings - St. Louis Post-Dispatch

ST. LOUIS — Preservationists are renewing criticism of St. Louis University’s plan to tear down 130-year-old buildings after the city of St. Louis issued the private college a demolition permit.

SLU has until Dec. 13 to raze the vacant properties before the permit, valued at $10,000, expires. The university has said it bought the buildings in order to “improve the area around campus,” but has offered to sell the Olive Street buildings if it receives offers from interested buyers.

Preservationists have criticized SLU for wanting to demolish the properties, which sit directly across from a campus parking garage, without a plan for the site. They say the two buildings, at 3221 and 3225 Olive, are historically important despite not having a designated status that could prevent demolition.

Nonprofit group Landmarks Association also has accused SLU President Fred Pestello of reneging on a “gentleman’s agreement” with a Landmarks’ board member that would have given the nonprofit more time to find alternatives to demolition, according to a letter the group sent to SLU on Monday.

“History has shown that expedient demolition of buildings simply because their owners lack the vision to see how they could be reused is a failed approach that robs our community of its unique character, its cultural heritage and its economic vitality,” the letter reads.

The roughly 130-year-old buildings are relics of when the city of St. Louis was bursting with people and activity. One of them once belonged to famed restaurateur Tony Faust, who ran one of his markets there in the late 1800s. Later, in the early 2000s, at least one building operated as a nightclub.

The buildings, however, are not a city landmark, in the National Register of Historic Places nor in a preservation review district, which would have given City Hall an opportunity to deny the demolition permit.

Pete Rothschild owned the properties through his RPWE LLC and said they weren’t on the market when SLU officials approached his company to buy them. Previously, nearby Harris-Stowe State University had the properties under contract to buy for a short time before it walked away from the deal.

SLU bought them in August.

“I certainly hope they don’t tear them down,” Rothschild said, adding that the properties are in good shape.

Andrew Weil, Landmarks’ executive director, said he understands that the buildings were indeed well maintained. Rothschild had marketed them for lease over the years, Weil said.

But now under SLU’s ownership, preservationists fear the properties will disappear.

Pestello, SLU’s president, allegedly told Landmarks Association board member and former KMOV anchor Julius Hunter that he considers the buildings to be “eyesores.” Landmarks also said in the letter that Pestello violated his “gentleman’s agreement” with Hunter that would have given preservationists until at least Jan. 1 to find another way to save the buildings.

SLU spokesman Clayton Berry did not answer questions about Pestello’s comment, and instead reiterated the university’s statement from September that it doesn’t want to see the properties continue deteriorating.

Berry said the university has yet to receive any written offers from buyers.

The properties are just outside the boundaries of Mill Creek Valley, a historic Black neighborhood that the city razed for a highway. Preservationists say SLU has not learned from history that demolition only serves to further destabilize a neighborhood.

“Landmarks Association implores you to see the forest rather than the trees and to change course,” the nonprofit said in its letter to SLU. “These buildings have stood for more than 130 years. During that time they have served many different purposes and survived periods of vacancy. They can be revitalized for the benefit of students, visitors and Midtown at large.”

A demo related to a Final Fantasy 7 mobile game all-but lost to history can now be enjoyed thanks to the work of some very dedicated fans.

As spotted by Twitter user @RockmanCosmo (via Time Extension), an individual known as xyz has managed to preserve a demo version of Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode. At one time, the demo came preloaded and ready to play on Docomo P903i feature phones in Japan. It covers the game's first five chapters, giving fans a fairly decent chunk of gameplay.

What's more, the demo is now also playable on the DoJa 5.1 SDK emulator. According to @RockmanCosmo, several individuals - @m3M0RyHuN73R, usernameak, @XLeonier, and @XerShadowTail - did some major work to get it up and running, though as the Twitter user explains, it doesn't run perfectly right now.

"There are some audio issues, and the game runs unevenly due to its three dimensional graphics," @RockmanCosmo says. "When there is a more comprehensive DoJa emulator (i.e. SquirrelJME), these issues will be ironed out. The methods of getting the game to run also varies between Windows versions."

For those not well versed in Final Fantasy mobile games of yore, Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode is a shooter RPG co-developed by Square Enix and Ideaworks3D. It was released in 2006 in North America and 2007 in Japan and takes place during the events of the Final Fantasy 7's PS2 spin-off Dirge of Cerberus, essentially acting as a missing chapter that bolsters the adventures of Vincent Valentine.

The full game, according to @RockmanCosmo hasn't been preserved yet, but they hint at another individual who may have it in its entirety on their P903i device.

If you're keen to see the Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode demo in action, YouTuber DaguPlays has managed to play the game using the DoJa 5.1 SDK emulator and has uploaded it for your viewing pleasure.
