The Worm is Back!

(NASA) – The original NASA insignia is one of the most powerful symbols in the world.

A bold, patriotic red chevron wing piercing a blue sphere, representing a planet, with white stars, and an orbiting spacecraft.

Today, we know it as “the meatball.” However, with 1970’s technology, it was a difficult icon to reproduce, print, and many people considered it a complicated metaphor in what was considered, then, a modern aerospace era.

Enter a cleaner, sleeker design born of the Federal Design Improvement Program and officially introduced in 1975. It featured a simple, red unique type style of the word NASA. The world knew it as “the worm.” Created by the firm of Danne & Blackburn, the logo was honored in 1984 by President Reagan for its simplistic, yet innovative design.

NASA was able to thrive with multiple graphic designs. There was a place for both the meatball and the worm. However, in 1992, the 1970s brand was retired – except on clothing and other souvenir items – in favor of the original late 1950s graphic.

Until today.

The worm is back. And just in time to mark the return of human spaceflight on American rockets from American soil.

The retro, modern design of the agency’s logo will help capture the excitement of a new, modern era of human spaceflight on the side of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle that will ferry astronauts to the International Space Station as part of the Demo-2 flight, now scheduled for mid- to late May.

And there’s a good chance you’ll see the logo featured in other official ways on this mission and in the future.

The agency is still assessing how and where it will be used, exactly.

It seems the worm logo wasn’t really retired. It was just resting up for the next chapter of space exploration.

And don’t worry, the meatball will remain NASA’s primary symbol.

Komut Pelindo I Usul Lockdown, Komisi VI: Motif Politik - Tagar News

Jakarta - Wakil Ketua Komisi VI DPR Aria Bima mensinyalir permintaan lockdown yang dibunyikan Komisaris Utama (Komut) PT. Pelindo I Refly Harun bermotif politik. 

Pasalnya, Refly menyebut pemerintah menghindar dari sistem lockdown karena enggan membiayai kebutuhan dasar masyarakat.

Bisa-bisa keinginan lockdown ini punya motif politik untuk terjadinya kekacauan ekonomi, kekacauan sosial.

Aria berpendapat keinginan lockdown ataupun karantina wilayah yang dikemukakan pakar hukum tata negara tersebut bernuansa politik, efeknya dapat merusak ekonomi bangsa dan sosial. 

Hal itu, kata dia, senada dengan permintaan yang sempat dilontarkan Gubernur DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan dan mantan Wakil Presiden Jusuf Kalla.

"Bisa-bisa keinginan lockdown ini punya motif politik untuk terjadinya kekacauan ekonomi, kekacauan sosial dan tentunya juga bisa berdampak pada kekacauan politik. Karena hal yang sama juga pernah disampaikan Anies Baswedan, Jusuf Kalla," kata Aria kepada Tagar, Kamis, 2 April 2020.

Dia menegaskan pernyataan Refly tidak pantas diucapkan hanya karena didasari asumsi yang tidak jelas. "Jadi saya pikir kurang pas pernyataan Pak Refly Harun yang tidak didasari atas asumsi-asumsi yang jelas dan cenderung bahwa itu adalah penguatan peta," ujarnya.

Selanjutnya, dia mengimbau agar para tokoh publik itu apabila ingin mengemukakan pendapat sebaiknya sesuai dengan Perppu yang telah dikeluarkan pemerintah terkait penanganan virus corona (Covid-19).

"Dan sebaiknya Refly Harun lebih mengacu atau mencermati apa yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah saat ini dengan menurunkan Perppu yang isinya adalah perbaikan-perbaikan di sektor ekonomi untuk masyarakat," kata dia.

Politisi PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) ini tidak melarang sosok komisaris di salah satu perusahaan pelat merah tersebut memberikan kritikan kepada pemerintah. Namun, Aria Bima berharap kritikan harus bersifat membangun tanpa harus menimbulkan kegaduhan.

"Kritik sebenarnya yang konstruktif itu boleh-boleh saja. Apapun ini negara demokrasi. Dia sebagai komisaris ya silakan saja mau mengkritisi. Tapi, jangan kemudian seperti menggarisbawahi dengan penjelasan-penjelasan yang tidak komperhensif, tidak holistik, yang justru membuat kegaduhan nasional," ujarnya.

Selanjutnya, dia meminta Refly agar lebih menjaga pernyataannya terkait isu Covid-19, jangan sampai seperti Wakil Sekretaris Jenderal Partai Demokrat Andi Arief.

"Saya harap Refly Harun menjaga pernyataannya. Jangan bikin pernyataannya seperti Andi Arief. Dia itukan seorang intelektual, jadi pernyataan itu harus didukung oleh data dan berbagai fakta. Jangan salah mengucap. Itu cenderung masalah politik kalau sama kamu itu," ucap Aria Bima. []

Cayetana releases demo collection to benefit nurses - Punknews.org

Cayetana, who went inactive last year, have released a demo and outtakes collection. It's called not what we meant by NEW KIND OF NORMAL demos & unreleased songs. The release benefits nurses and doctors. In part, the band stated, "100% of the money will go towards buying SAFE masks for the visiting nurses and home health care workers in Philadelphia who are in desperate need of good supplies." Watch Mike Shinoda Make A Hybrid Theory-Style Demo - Kerrang!

Continuing the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Hybrid Theory, while also bringing fans into his writing and recording process as we’re all stuck at home due to coronavirus, Mike Shinoda has streamed himself coming up with throwback Linkin Park demos.

“Today we’re gonna do a Hybrid Theory-style demo!” he says at the beginning of the stream, before explaining the equipment he’s using in comparison to how the band used to record back in the day.

With the demo coming together by the end of the 84-minute video, one fan then asks Mike to do the same thing inspired by the sound of the band’s fourth album, 2010’s A Thousand Suns.

“The thing that’s pretty magical about A Thousand Suns…” Mike ponders. “As soon as we hit our third record, Minutes To Midnight, everything after that I think there was a lot less blueprint going on. Things sounded like us when they sounded like us because it was us, but one thing about A Thousand Suns was that it was a lot of happy accidents and things we stumbled on to in a great way. Like, you’d just be feeding a keyboard through a pedal, and that through another tape echo, and then all of a sudden a weird sound would come out and we just made sure we were recording, and turned that into a part of a song. It was a lot of that.”

He adds that he’s up for doing “weird sound experiments” in his next livestream, though, saying, “That would be fun. I guess the magic there too isn’t just finding the weird accidental sound; it’s hearing it and recognising, ‘Oh, that’s a cool sound, I like that sound,’ and then turning it into a song. That’s kinda the hardest part.”

Yep, we’d totally be down for watching Mike experiment like that.
