The first official demo for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been released, giving fans outside of conventions their first chance to play. The demo was shown off at E3 2019 and brought back to PAX East and can now be downloaded on home consoles. Take Cloud and Barrett through the murky underground of Mako Reactor 1 in chapter one, killing enemy robots and a massive Scorpion Sentinel boss along the way.
How to Download Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo
Right now, you can log onto your PlayStation 4 and download the demo onto your console. Finding the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo on the PSN store proved to be an issue currently, but you can visit Sony's website to find a proper link. You'll need to log-in with your Sony account and click the "Try Free Demo" button before jumping in. From there, the demo should be waiting in your library to test out.
The game file is only 7.55 GBs, meaning it won't take up your entire console just to test it out. Also, if you download the demo now, you'll get access to an exclusive FF7 PlayStation theme once the game releases in April.
Progress you make during this demo will not carry over to the main game; it's merely just a testing ground to see the high-profile graphics and Kingdom Hearts-esque gameplay in action. Taking control of Cloud's Buster Sword to slash away hordes of enemies just feels rewarding.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Hands-On
At a closed-door event early last week, I got a chance to test out the full version of the game. Going through chapters one, two, seven and ten was an absolute blast, if not frustratingly difficult at times. I had never played the original version of the game, so seeing the characters I only recognized from mobile games and Kingdom Hearts gave me a bit more context (I had no idea Cloud was a soldier).
The actual gameplay of FF& is not that much different than the demo; switching between abilities as you build up your meter with basic attacks is the basic game play loop. The inclusion of Magic Materia makes upgrading your spells easy and getting to summon giant beasts like Bahamut makes fighting a little easier. For four hours I grinded away at the plot, engrossed by the storyline that was only mildly difficult to follow.
Overall, I'm beyond hyped for this remake and what it can offer players looking for a new experience or just some old-school Nostalgia.
