Different people have found different ways of coping with the spread of the coronavirus around the world. For indie-pop singer Parson James, that comes in the form of music.
On Friday (March 27), James debuted an unfinished demo of his single "Fallin on Me" on SoundCloud, a soulful pop single that sees the singer struggling with hard times. Backed up by soft pianos, handclaps and even a chorus, James wails about the pain of dealing with emotional turmoil, singing, "Then I'll be lyin' in a daze/ And soon my demons come to sing/ 'Cause my world keeps falling on me."
In a note posted with the song, James shared that he decided to release the song simply because the timing felt too right to not. "This song has had many meanings since I wrote it but lately it’s been on my mind A LOT," he said. "Given our climate and what’s going on around us I felt like f--k it. I want to share this record."
The star continued, saying that with the world seeming to fall into disrepair, it's fine to feel emotionally raw about it. "It's okay to have moments of uncertainty & emotional responses to the dramatic changes we are experiencing," he wrote. "So, here is 'Fallin On Me.' I've never released an unfinished demo before but now felt like the appropriate [time] to be a bit vulnerable. Hopefully you can latch on to its meaning and find some light in what's to come after the storm."
