SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced the Spring 2020 Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday with six Bellarmine lacrosse players picking up the honor. Patrick Keegan, Morgan Macko, Ethan Pattinson, Jon Robbins, Trent Tomas, and Dylan Tulett all made the list from Bellarmine.
"Congratulations to our many academic award winners," SoCon Commissioner Jim Schaus said. "These accomplishments are something that we value highly and celebrate widely as much as athletic success. Student always comes first in theory and in practice in the term student-athletes in the SoCon. Academic excellence is the hallmark of our 10 outstanding institutions. Thanks also to those faculty and campus staff who support our students in their success."
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the spring semester. Because of the cancellation of the spring season, the usual participation requirement for honorees to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions was modified for this year only to include projected starters and key contributors. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
Keegan, a finance and accounting major from West Chester, Pennsylvania, was sophomore this past season for the Knights and appeared in five games, scoring a pair of goals and handing out one assist.
Macko, one of Bellarmine's senior captains in 2020, also was one of the Knights' statistical leaders. The Orchard Park, Michigan native and finance major was third on the team in goals with 12 and added seven assists to rank second on the team in total points. He now ranks third all-time on Bellarmine's points list with 94 career points and is third in assists with 33.
Another Michigan native, Pattinson—who hails from Highland—made the academic all-conference list after appearing in all eight games this season. The business administration major netted four goals and two assists during his sophomore season.
Robbins, an LSM/Defender from Plano, Texas, was on his way to a big year in 2020 leading the team with 29 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers when the season ended after just eight games. The junior business administration major is already seventh on Bellarmine's all-time caused turnovers list with 33 in just two and a half years.
A junior exercise science major, Tomas was a steady midfielder this season for the Knights. The Atlanta, Georgia native accumulated a goal, eight ground balls and two caused turnovers this season while also firing three shots on goal.
Tulett, a junior from Toronto, Canada, was another Knight seeing action in all eight games. The biochemistry and molecular biology major made an impact in the defensive midfield this past season with five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Bellarmine is an affiliate member of the Southern Conference competing in men's lacrosse.
