The Arkansas Department of Health reported six new cases of COVID-19 in Union County Saturday, bringing the county’s number of cumulative cases to 273. Twenty-one COVID-19 cases have been identified in the county since last Saturday; the week before that, seven cases were identified.
Of the county’s cumulative cases, 225 were considered recovered Saturday, up 1 from Friday. There were 34 active cases in the county, up four from Friday, which represented 12.45% of the county’s cumulative case total.
One Union County resident died as a result of the virus between Friday and Saturday. In all, 14 local residents have died due to COVID-19, indicating a local COVID mortality rate of 5.12%.
The ADH reported 43 new negative test results returned from Union County Saturday. So far, 3,537 COVID-19 test results have returned from Union County, with 3,264 negatives, indicating an overall local positivity rate of 7.71%.
Arkansas saw its cumulative number of cases grow by 1,061 Saturday to reach 27,864. The increase represents a new one-day record in case growth for the state and Saturday was the first day that COVID-19 cases grew by more than 1,000 in Arkansas.
Of those, 21,190 were considered recovered on Saturday, while 6,355 cases remained active, representing 22.80% of the state’s cumulative number of cases. The number of active cases was the second-highest it had ever been in Arkansas on Saturday.
Six Arkansans died as a result of the virus between Friday and Saturday, bringing the state’s death toll to 319, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.14%.
The ADH reported 376,565 test results reported by Saturday afternoon, with 348,701 negatives, indicating an overall state positivity rate of 7.39%.
Johns Hopkins University reported 3,228,884 COVID-19 cases in the United States at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Of those, 983,185 were considered recovered Saturday, leaving 2,111,099 cases — 65.38% — active nationwide. There had been 134,600 deaths attributable to the virus by Saturday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 4.16%.
Johns Hopkins reported 12,607,510 COVID-19 cases worldwide Saturday afternoon. Of those, 6,948,863 were considered recovered Saturday, leaving 5,096,309 cases — 40.42% — active around the world. There had been 562,338 deaths attributable to the virus by Saturday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 4.46%.
U.S. cases represented 25.61% of global COVID-19 cases on Saturday, while active cases in the U.S. made up 41.42% of active cases worldwide.
