Pitt recruited well in Virginia during the last recruiting cycle, and that paid off in the form of commitments from Myles Alston, Rodney Hammond and Malik Newton. Now, the Panthers staff has been informed that Pitt is in the mix to land Tayon Holloway, a four-star cornerback out of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, as he put Pitt in his top six.
“My family and I would like to send a lot of love to everyone who recruited me,” Holloway said in a message posted on Twitter. “Right now, I would like to focus my attention on these schools for the next month and then prepare myself for winning two state championships and getting ready for college. I will be committing on Christmas Day. [My finalists are] Penn State, [North Carolina], Pittsburgh, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Maryland.”
Holloway holds four-star ratings from 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. The 6’1”, 175-pound cornerback is also considered a high-four-star recruit, as he is just two points removed from a 6.1 score on Rivals, which would elevate him to five-star status. With that said, recruiting analysts hold differing views of him, as Rivals places him at No. 56 in the 2022 class, while 247Sports puts him at No. 183 and ESPN has him at No. 219 in his class.
During his recruitment, Holloway drew 19 scholarship offers, 17 of which came from Power Five programs. Schools that did not make the cut on Friday included Alabama, Arkansas, NC State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
As a sophomore, Holloway played as a wide receiver and accrued 814 yards on 69 catches. However, Holloway’s junior season was canceled, along with all fall sports in Virginia, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. So he has not posted any stats in 2020 as a result. Holloway is set to make a decision just over a month from now on Christmas.
