Pipestone County lost three more residents, including one aged 60-64, one aged 70-74 and one aged 80-84. Cottonwood County reported two additional deaths, including one aged 80-84 and one aged 90-94. Nobles County recorded one new death in an individual aged 85-89. No other information is available.
Statewide, 75 more deaths were recorded during the one-day reporting period. These included 27 individuals who resided in private residences, 45 individuals in long-term care facilities, and three individuals in group homes or behavioral health facilities. The cumulative death total from the novel coronavirus in Minnesota now stands at 4,971, including 3,220 residents of long-term care facilities.
Meanwhile, another 1,513 more Minnesotans tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the one-day period. Locally, Nobles and Jackson counties each reported three new cases, Cottonwood County reported two, Rock County reported one, and Pipestone and Murray counties reported no new cases.
The state’s cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases stands at 402,519 (positive tests and antigen tests), with 379,512 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 30,904 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the novel coronavirus.
A local snapshot of the virus shows the following cumulative totals since testing began. The number of recoveries and positivity rate are based on information released Dec. 17 by MDH.

Murray County: 702 positive cases; 28 probable cases; 662 beyond the 10-day isolation period; 9.7% positivity rate; five deaths.

Pipestone County: 834 positive cases; 25 probable cases; 787 beyond the 10-day isolation period; 8.7% positivity rate; 21 deaths.

Rock County: 948 positive cases; 57 probable cases; 904 beyond the 10-day isolation period; 8.9% positivity rate; 10 deaths.

Congregate care facilities with COVID-19 exposures as of Friday included Crossroads Care Center, Worthington; Parkview Manor, Ellsworth; Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Lakefield; Edgebrook Care Center and Edgebrook Estates Assisted Living, Edgerton; Good Samaritan Society homes in Jackson, Luverne, Mountain Lake, Pipestone, and Windom; Maple Lawn Senior Care and Maplewood Court Assisted Living, Fulda; Good Samaritan Society/Mikkelsen Manor, Windom; the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne; and Ridgeview Estates, Pipestone.
The Iowa Department of Health reports 271,022 cases of COVID-19 in its state since testing began, with 222,068 individuals considered recovered. Thus far, 3,668 deaths are blamed on COVID-19 in the state.
In northwest Iowa:

Dickinson County: 1,657 positive cases (12 new cases); 1,352 recovered; 13 deaths.

Lyon County: 1,207 positive cases (10 new cases); 1,003 recovered; 23 deaths. Long-term care facilities with current infections include the Rock Rapids Health Centre with 20 cases and one recovery thus far.

Osceola County: 603 positive cases (one new case); 517 recovered; seven deaths. Long-term care facilities with current infections include Country View Manor, Sibley, with 34 cases and 21 recoveries thus far.
Nationwide, Johns Hopkins University reports a cumulative total of 18,268,173 positive cases of COVID-19 in the United States as of 10:30 a.m. today. Recovery data is not available. There have been 323,510 COVID-related deaths in the United States.
