Looks like Prince William and Kate Middleton could be on the naughty list this year.
The royal couple and their three children were spotted strolling this week with Prince Edward’s family, sparking accusations that they flouted the government’s COVID-19 restriction called “Rule of Six,” which prohibits groups of people larger than six from congregating.
William and Kate, along with their kids — Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2 — were seen visiting the Christmas-themed Luminate trail walk on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail. Walking alongside them at various points was William’s uncle Prince Edward, his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and their two children, Lady Louise, 17, and James, Viscount Severn, 13.
Luminate Sandringham is a mile-long path open to locals through mid-January that offers a scenic stroll, a fire pit and stalls with holiday food and drink.
In their effort to follow the rules, “the two families were given separate consecutive slots to visit the trail before it opened to the general public,” a royal source told the Daily Mail.
“They arrived and departed in their own family groups,” the source continued.
But, “As anyone with young children will know, there were moments on the 90-minute walk where it was difficult to keep the two family groups apart, particularly at bottlenecks on the trail.”
Commenters online were not so kind over the apparent rule-breaking, unintentional or not.
“One rule for them and another for us,” one person groused on Twitter, while another noted, “I guess that following the rules is only for the plebs.”
The Cambridges are spending the holidays at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, which is under Tier 2 lockdown. That means only six people can meet up outside if they are not from the same household.
They recently completed a train tour of the UK to thank essential workers and met communities struggling with the coronavirus.
