From now until April there is going to be a lot of talk about the draft in Philadelphia. Should the Eagles trade back? Smith or Chase? What about corner or linebacker? This is all Eagles fans are going to be talking about for the next couple of months. There really isn’t one position where you can say we don’t need to improve on. Obviously, the big needs are corner receiver and linebacker, like they have been the last four years. Given the Eagles situation, they should just take the best player on the board, and there is a possibility that Florida standout tight end Kyle Pitts could be the best player on the board at number six.
This pick would spark a huge outrage from Eagles fans, but if we are looking to get Carson more weapons, then Pitts may be the best weapon available. Pitts (who is a Philly native) caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2020 for Florida. Standing at 6’6 and weighing 246 pounds, Pitts has the size and strength to perform extremely well in the NFL. Pro Football Focus has Pitts’ NFL comparison as Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller. The Eagles love running 12 personnel, which for people who don’t know what that it is, it is when you have two tight ends on the field at the same time. With the given speculation that Ertz has played his last game in midnight green, that only leaves Dallas Goedert. Of course, the Eagles could look to add someone cheap in free agency, but how much would that really help? If Smith and Chase are both off the board at six and the Eagles are serious about getting Wentz some help, then Pitts should be the number one player on their list. Not to mention that Pitts’ OC at Florida is now the QB coach for the birds.

Now let’s get into Kyle Pitts’ game. Pitts has the ability to play all over the field. He can stick his hand in the dirt on the line, he can lineup in the slot, and can even lineup outside. Pitts poses as a matchup nightmare for defenses, and with him and Dallas on the field at the same time with Reagor lined up on the outside, defenses are going to have a lot to worry about. The strengths in his game are obvious, his size, his speed, his athleticism, and his ball skills are also great. His one downfall is his blocking ability, but that can be coached, and honestly, not many tight ends are primarily blockers anymore. With the ability to play all over the field Pitts should be high on the Eagles board. Pitts is also a very good route runner, especially for his size. Colts wide receiver Zach Pascal said that new head coach Nick Sirianni wants his routes very detailed, like painting a picture. Pitts could fit very well into this picture.
#Eagles HC Nick Sirianni “wants his routes to look very detailed. It’s almost like painting a picture, it’s like art.”
I spoke with Colts WR Zach Pascal to get an idea of how Sirianni and passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo would improve the position:https://t.co/zGYDNmYQvA

Now if Smith and Chase are there, I would rather have one of them. They both are great outside threats for a team that desperately needs it. Patrick Surtain is also another interesting option. The Eagles desperately need help on the back end. Slay is your only true starter, Mills is a free agent, Rodney is coming off a major injury, Maddox is more of a slot guy and I hope that “slot god” Robey-Coleman is on his way out too. The best corner in the nation is also someone who could be high on the Eagles board. Now let’s play the hypothetical, let’s say that Chase and Smith are both off the board at the sixth pick. Could Howie then think about trading back and getting more ammo? Possibly. The two best players on the board would probably be Surtain or Pitts, so who should the pick be? At the moment I am leaning Pitts, just because of how much he brings to the field, but that could change anytime.
With still about three months until the draft, so much could change until then. One thing that should stay the same, the Eagles’ interest in Pitts. Even with Goedert, the Eagles will need another tight end. Zach Ertz is on his way out and I highly doubt the Eagles go into next year with Caleb Wilson as their number two tight end. They could definitely look to add someone in free agency, but I don’t see one who matches up with Pitts. The Eagles need to keep their minds open. They need help all over the field. Picking the best player available or trading back should be the only two options. No more drafting for need or trying to be cute and think you’re outsmarting everyone. This pick is too valuable to play games with. If Pitts is the best player available at six, then you pick Pitts. A tight end duo of Dallas Goedert and Kyle Pitts? Sign me up. It is going to be interesting whatever happens on draft night.
