There were a lot of big plays that helped lift the Rams to victory on Saturday. Jared Goff completed two 44-yard passes, he threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods, Cam Akers ripped off a 20-yard run and the Rams sacked Russell Wilson five times.

But there was no bigger play than Darious Williams’ pick-six in the first half. With the Rams up 6-3, Williams made one of the best plays you’ll see from a cornerback. The Seahawks attempted to throw a screen pass to DK Metcalf with two blockers in front of him.

But Williams had other ideas.

He read Wilson right from the snap, broke on the ball and picked it off, returning it 42-yards for a touchdown. According to Next Gen Stats, it was the first screen pass intercepted in the NFL this season, which just goes to show how rare a play it was.

After the game, Williams was asked by Omar Ruiz what he saw on the play. He broke it down very simply, saying he saw it 100 times on film.

“I mean, they just always run it away from Jalen, so I know they try to feature DK. I already knew what they was doing, I’ve seen it 100 times on film. I just went to go get it,” Williams said.

Williams gave the Rams a 13-3 lead when it seemed like the Seahawks might have a chance to either tie the game up or take the lead in the second quarter. The Rams never relinquished the lead and Williams’ pick gave them the spark they needed.

Wilson had a terrible time targeting Williams in coverage this season, throwing zero touchdown passes and three picks with a passer rating of 26.5, according to Pro Football Focus.

Williams isn’t the biggest or fastest cornerback in football, but his instincts, play recognition and hands are off the charts. All three of those things were on full display Saturday, showing why he’s become one of the Rams’ most important players on defense.
