WINSTED — At their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 4, the Board of Selectmen extended Town Manager Robert Geiger’s contract by six more months as they continue to search for a new town manager.
Geiger submitted his letter of resignation on Sept. 14 and his last day on the job was originally scheduled for Dec. 31.
However, the board has not been able to find a replacement for Geiger.
Back at an Oct. 28 special meeting, the selectmen approved a contract with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities for executive search services in its search for a new town manager.
While the minutes for the Oct. 28 meeting list that funds for the contract would be paid for from the Selectmen’s Contingency Account line item, the minutes do not list how much the town is paying for services.
At the Jan. 4 regular meeting, the board voted unanimously to extend Geiger’s contract.
“[Geiger] put a specific date on his resignation, and we all thought that we might find somebody by then,” Mayor Candy Perez said. “Because we are being very diligent to make sure we have the right fit, we needed to make sure that we reappointed him.”
In other business: The selectmen approved the donation of a van to Greenwoods Referrals and Consulting.
The model and type of van were not listed in meeting documents provided by the town, but it was previously used by the Winsted Senior Center and was made in 2007.
According to a letter to the selectmen by Senior Center Director Jennifer Kelley, the van is not operational and Greenwoods is prepared to pay for repairs to the van.
Kelley wrote that Greenwoods wanted the van to meet with their clients at various locations, including The Open Door Soup Kitchen.
