Authorities on Monday reported six additional deaths in Harris County due to the winter storm that brought sub-freezing temperatures and massive power outages to Texas last week.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences reported the deaths, which bring the total number of weather-related fatalities in Harris County to 16.

The storm is linked to more than 30 deaths across the Greater Houston area.

The newly reported deaths include Lois Freeney, who died of hypothermia.

Raul Rivera, who also died of hypothermia, was found in a grassy area in Houston.

John Jennings died at the hospital from cardiovascular disease and also suffered blunt trauma of his torso with a lumbar spine fracture.

The medical examiner also reported that an unidentified person was found in front of a church. The Chronicle reported over the weekend that an elderly woman, described as “possibly homeless,” was found dead by police on Thursday morning near the front door of a church at 4602 Aledo St.

Harvey Smith, of Crosby, and Ann Manning, of Houston, both died from hypothermia at their homes.

Officials last week provided limited information on several other deaths in the county.

Carrol Anderson of Crosby and Jimmie Gloud and Mary Gee, both of Houston, all died at their homes. Of the other fatalities disclosed last week by the medical examiner, three individuals died in Houston apartments and one each in a Houston hospital emergency room, at an unspecified residence, in the living room of another unspecified residence and a backyard shed. It was unclear when each individual died.

In Brazoria County, a new death was also reported by the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday. A 72-year-old man in Pearland was reported dead on Sunday after not being able to make it to dialysis treatment because of the weather.

Last week, a 39-year old Angleton woman died Wednesday from possible cold exposure. Another 72-year old Pearland man was also found dead on Feb. 13 from possible carbon monoxide poisoning.
