GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Jimmy Obertop drove in six runs -- five in game two -- as the University of Michigan baseball team swept a Saturday (March 13) doubleheader from Purdue by scores of 4-0 and 9-2 at Fluor Field.

In the opener, Michigan struck first with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Obertop singled sharply to left field to score Benjamin Sems (single) in support of starting pitcher Cameron Weston.

Weston (1-0) earned the victory with six shutout innings, striking out three batters against just one walk and scattering five hits. Notably, he was at his best when Purdue had runners on base. Weston held the Boilers to a 1-for-11 mark with runners on base and 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position to earn his first win of the season.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Wolverines have won their last five games.

Christan Bullock tripled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and scored on the next pitch as Jake Marti lofted a long sacrifice fly to center field.

Bullock was again in the midst of a big inning in the sixth as his prowess enabled the Wolverines to take a commanding 4-0 lead. He took a low-and-outside pitch for a single into left-center field to plate Clark Elliott (single) with two runners on base. On the next pitch, Bullock swiped second base and, on the throw to second, Riley Bertram (walk) scampered home for a double steal.

Willie Weiss earned his first save of the season as he closed the door on Purdue with two strikeouts in the seventh.

Obertop factored heavily in game two as well. The sophomore slugger unloaded a grand slam with two outs in the first inning and then laced an RBI single in the second as part of a three-run inning to give starting pitcher Ben Dragani a 7-0 cushion early in the contest.

Dragani (2-0), making his first start since his Freshman All-American season in 2018 due to injury, was masterful against the Boilermakers. The left-hander went five innings, scattering four singles while striking out five batters and not walking a batter.

Elliott provided an RBI single in the second, Christian Molfetta added an RBI single in the fifth, and Danny Zimmerman plated Michigan's ninth run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Purdue managed single runs in the seventh and ninth innings but never threatened. Bullock's two hits, including a hustle double, led the U-M offense as the Wolverines used their big lead to get 14 position players into the game.

Michigan will look to complete a series sweep of the Boilermakers when the teams square off Sunday (March 14) at 9 a.m. at Fluor Field. The contest will be steamed live on Big Ten Network Plus.
