EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T women's basketball coach Tarrell Robinson, fresh off his latest MEAC tournament triumph, announced six new players on Monday.
Kiana Adderton (6-foot-1, forward, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Myrtle Beach HS, Francis Marion), Faith Blackstone (6-1, guard, Durham, N.C., Hillside HS Syracuse), Jasmin Boyd (5-9, G, Columbus, N.J., Trenton Catholic), Jazmin Harris (6-3, center, Greensboro, N.C., Eastern Guilford HS, Charlotte), Rochelle Lee (6-3, F/C, Memphis, Tenn., Houston HS, North Texas) and Shareka McNeill (5-6, G, Charlotte, N.C., Harding HS, Virginia Union) will join Robinson and the Aggies for the 2021-22 season.
Adderton is a three-year transfer from Francis Marion, a Division II school from the Peach Belt Conference. She played in 54 games, including 51 starts, and averaged 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor. Adderton's best season came during her sophomore season, where she started in all 27 games and averaged 17.0 points. She also averaged 7.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals per game.
"We recruited Kiana the first go around, and I'm excited that she decided to join our family," Robinson said. "She's a skilled scorer and space maker with an ability to shoot the ball. Her versatility allows her to play both forward positions and take advantage of mismatches. She brings more depth to our team. She's had her share of success, and she only makes us better."
Blackstone played one season at Syracuse and totaled 14 points in 57 minutes with seven steals and four rebounds in six games. She recorded 11 points, five steals and two rebounds in 19 minutes against Lincoln (PA) on Dec. 2, 2020. At Hillside High School, she averaged 26.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 1.9 assists and 0.4 blocks in her senior season. She secured all-state player honors and finished her career second all-time in scoring.
"Faith committing to be part of our family takes us to another level," Robinson said. "She is an athletic, versatile guard with a scorer's mentality. She elevates our perimeter play. She can score in various ways and not only create for herself but for those around her.
She had a great career at Hillside, and there's no doubt that if she puts in the work here, she will do the same."
Boyd played in 94 games in high school, recording 642 points, 386 rebounds and 181 assists, according to highschoolsports.nj.com. Her high school had a 93-9 record in four seasons at TCA and won three Mercer County tournament tiles. They also won the NJSIAAA Non-Public South Jersey Group B titles two consecutive years starting 2019.
"Jasmin is a great fit for our program because she is a winner," Robinson said. "She played for one of the best high school programs in the country. She is a perfect fit for our culture, as she is a defense-first kid and someone willing to do all of the little things to win a game. Jasmin is someone who has a strong work ethic and is a very high character young lady who will do a great job of representing what it means to be a Lady Aggie."
Harris played three seasons at Charlotte, averaging 8.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks. In the 2020-21 season, Harris averaged 10.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 17 games with five starts and averaged 19.5 minutes.
"Jazmin adds depth, versatility and experience to our frontcourt," Robinson said. "She demands the attention of opponents defenses every possession in the half-court. She can play with her back to the basket and step outside the paint with her ability to shoot the mid-range jump shot around the arc. At Charlotte, she was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team and is coming off being named the Sixth Man of the Year. Jazmin will make an immediate impact for us on both ends of the floor."
Lee played two seasons at Chattanooga before transferring to North Texas. From 2017-19, Lee appeared in 55 games for the Mocs with 14 starts and recorded 142 points, 87 rebounds, 14 assists and 10 blocks. She sat out 2019-20 due to the NCAA transfer rules but averaged 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor during the 2020-21 season.
"Being able to add Rochelle to the team is big for us," Robinson said. "She's an athletic post that can play multiple positions. Her ability to defend at a high level and run the floor in transitions fits into our style of play. Not only will she bring experience to the court, but also leadership which will only benefit this young group."
In limited action in 2019-20, McNeill started eight games and averaged 32.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32.3 minutes per game. She scored 59 points in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tournament game to tie the single-game tournament record.
During the 2018-19 season, McNeill played in 31 games with 30 starts and averaged 24.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. In her freshman season, she played in 31 games with 29 starts and averaged 12.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
"Shareka is a huge addition to our program," Robinson said. "We were the sixth-youngest team this past season, so it was important to add some experience to our roster. Shareka has been a three-year starter, won multiple conference championships, and helped lead her team to a national championship game. She is a proven winner but also a dynamic scorer.
She is someone who fits in well to our championship culture because she is someone who competes at a high level at all times."
The six newcomers add to the three that the Aggies signed in the fall with Chaniya Clark, Jordyn Dorsey and Kristin Sterling.
