The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence has selected 18 technology companies to help design and demonstrate various approaches to implementing zero trust architectures.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s NCCoE said Thursday it will work with the companies to design and field architectures based on the concepts stipulated in NIST Special Publication 800-207 and expects the project to inform the development of a NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide in the SP 1800 series that will outline the steps in implementing reference designs.
The selected vendors are:
- Amazon Web Services
- Appgate
- Broadcom’s (Nasdaq: AVGO) Symantec division
- Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO)
- F5 Networks (Nasdaq: FFIV)
- FireEye (Nasdaq: FEYE)
- Forescout Technologies
- IBM (NYSE: IBM)
- Ivanti’s MobileIron subsidiary
- McAfee (Nasdaq: MCFE)
- Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT)
- Okta (Nasdaq: OKTA)
- Palo Alto Networks (NYSE: PANW)
- PC Matic
- Radiant Logic
- SailPoint Technologies (NYSE: SAIL)
- Tenable (Nasdaq: TENB)
- Zscaler (Nasdaq: ZS)
The selected companies will participate in a consortium through a cooperative research and development agreement to share their software, hardware and expertise in developing and refining reference designs and standards-based platforms.
“Zero trust is a team sport and the NIST NCCoE is taking the initiative to bring together best-of-breed zero trust leaders,” Stephen Kovac, vice president of global government and head of corporate compliance at Zscaler, said in a statement.
“Zscaler is honored to be a part of this coalition working side by side to realize the opportunity for zero trust to strengthen every agency’s cyber defenses,” Kovac added.
Natalia Martin, acting director of the NCCoE, said zero trust implementation has become a business imperative and a federal cyber mandate and the center is excited to work with industry on the project using various vendor capabilities and products.
