Almost six years after a female body was found in Arizona, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has positively identified the victim as Kimberly Rena Jones, a teenager reported missing in San Bernardino in 2017.

On Sept. 28, 2016, a body was found in a ravine near the White Hills area of Arizona, near Highway 93 and Dolan Springs close to the Nevada border. An identification or cause of death could not be made at the time due to body decomposition. Nationwide missing persons files were compared with characteristics of the victim and a composite sketch was shared on social media with no response.

In February 2020, the case was handed off to a special investigations unit that exhumed the body for a new DNA sample and was able to identify potential relatives and positively identify Jones in early July 2021.

Jones, then 18, had been reported missing in California four years earlier. Mohave County detectives had not made aware of a missing persons report.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday it is encouraging anyone with information about Kimberly Jones to contact our Special Investigations Unit at 928-753-0753 ext. 4408.
