Four Power-Six Schools Highlight 2021-22 Schedule - Kennesaw State University Athletics - Kennesaw State Athletics

KENNESAW, Georgia – Four Power Six opponents highlight Kennesaw State's men's basketball's 2021-22 non-conference slate, as the Owls' complete schedule was announced on Friday.

Third-year head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim will challenge his Owls right from the start, with a two-game road trip to the Midwest for a season-opening game at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 9. It will be the first meeting between the two since Nov. 24, 2010, an ISU home victory. That's followed just two days later by a Nov. 11 contest at Creighton, who reached the Sweet Sixteen this past year before falling to eventual national champion runner-up Gonzaga. This is the second straight year the Owls will play in Omaha, after falling to the ninth-ranked Bluejays 93-58 on Dec. 4, 2020.

Following the opening week road swing, the Owls will be back home to play five of their next six in the Convocation Center, beginning with the home opener against Piedmont College on Nov. 14. Breaking up the stretch is a pre-Thanksgiving contest at Atlantic Coast Conference member Wake Forest on Nov. 23. This is the first meeting for the Owls against the ACC squad from North Carolina. Following that trip to Winston-Salem, the Owls come back to host Charleston Southern (Nov. 28) and Mercer (Dec. 1) in two important games.

Three road games highlight the month of December. The Owls will face a pair of regional rivals with games at Wofford (Dec. 5) and Samford (Dec. 18), and then close out the pre-Christmas slate with a Dec. 22 contest at Nebraska in the first-ever meeting between the schools. KSU finishes the non-conference slate against Toccoa Falls on Dec. 30.

"It's a challenging schedule for sure, facing four Power Six teams, along with our home-and-home series with Belmont, Charleston Southern and Samford," said Abdur-Rahim. "I wanted us to be tested though and opening the season with back-to-back at Iowa State and Creighton, we will find out a lot about ourselves on that trip. I'm also excited about our game at Wake Forest, it's an opportunity to test ourselves against a very quality ACC team. Coach Forbes has been a great coach for a long time, that's going to be another good measure for our program."

Following the non-conference finale, the previously announced ASUN Conference schedule has the Owls opening at home against Jacksonville (Jan. 4).

"You always want to get a good start to conference play, so I'm happy with the chance of opening ASUN play with a home contest. We have a tough stretch coming up after that, with four of our next five league games on the road," said Abdur-Rahim. "That's another reason we scheduled so many challenging non-conference road games, to help better prepare us for the ASUN season. Each game, each day, each practice, we're going to find a way to get better."

The Owls return 90% of its total scoring from a year ago, highlighted by senior Spencer Rogers and sophomore Chris Youngblood, who both averaged in double-figures with 16.3 and 12.4 ppg, respectively.
