RPG Life sim The Good Life is out on October 15, but ahead of its release date, developer White Owls—led by director Swery—has launched a new demo on Xbox One available today. The studio will make its next project available on Game Pass on release.
Swery and publisher Playism will make their demo available on Steam for PC this Friday, October 1, too. The Good Life will bring a slice of its adventure to Steam's Next Festival, where you can embark on a new journey as Naomi, a photojournalist from New York who travels to a small British town, Rainy Wood.
The Good Life is a "debt repayment RPG," where your heroine is saddled with a massive sum to repay. You'll take photos and accept strange jobs in Rainy Wood, where a mysterious phenomenon occurs every night in which its citizens transform into cats and dogs. Things grow more complicated as the sleepy town is sent reeling from a murder.
In addition to your job as a journalist, Naomi can also balance the day-to-day through gardening, unlocking new recipes, and collecting new outfits. And you'll join the folks in the "happiest town in the world" as a cat or dog yourself—Naomi isn't immune to the strange shapeshifting. The Good Life also launches on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on its October 15 release date.
The Good Life's development cycle saw a few bumps along the way before settling on its 2021 debut, with a delay accompanying an earlier publisher change in June. The bizarre adventure also got its own edible collaboration earlier this month as The Good Life's Good Rice. If you're looking to pick up a bag of specialty Nagano rice yourself, it's unfortunately only available to fans in Japan.
Game Pass continues to snatch up indie and triple-A titles for its growing library. Just last week, it added 14 new games, including indies like SkateBird and Sable. Microsoft's subscription service also added the formerly Oculus exclusive Myst remake, and the mobile version of Game Pass saw SuperGiant's Hades hit the platform with surprisingly good controls.
