Women's Tennis Opens Contender CrossFit Islander Open with Six Victories - UTRGV Athletics

CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team opened the Contender CrossFit Islander Open with six victories on Friday at the H-E-B Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, the duo of senior Alicia Thal and junior Ana Platisa picked up an 8-6 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville's Milou TerMorsche and Jana Knaab. 
 
In singles, sophomore Isabelle Bahr recorded a straight 6-3, 6-3 win over Sam Houston's Megan Basson in Flight A. 
 
Freshman Marjorie Souza, who was making her UTRGV debut, picked up a 6-3, 7-6 win over Corpus Christi's Mariya Shumeika in Flight B.
 
Sophomore Lea Karren added a 7-5, 6-2 victory in Flight C over Tyler Junior College's Abigail Wild. Junior Katarina Sasaroga came away with a 7-6, 7-6 victory over UT Tyler's Gaini Ibrasheva in Flight E.
 
Thal also added a victory in Flight H as she picked up the three set victory 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Tyler Junior College's Hrudaya Shah.
 
Play will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the H-E-B Tennis Center.
