Tom Brady Throws Pick-Six to P.J. Williams As Saints Secure Upset Over Buccaneers - Sports Illustrated

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Tom Brady and the Buccaneers nearly pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Saints on Sunday, but one bad throw cost Brady and Co. on Tampa's final drive.

Brady threw a pick-six to cornerback P.J. Williams with under two minutes remaining, giving the Saints a 36-27 lead in front of a raucous New Orleans crowd. Brady is, of course, the greatest QB of all-time, but even he isn't immune to an ill-timed turnover.

Brady still turned in an impressive stat line on Sunday despite his ugly pick-six. He tallied 375 yards passing and four touchdowns against the Saints, marking his second 300-yard game in the last four weeks. As Brady rolls through a second season in Tampa, his NFL records continue to look more and more out of reach.

SI Recommends

The Buccaneers fell to 6–2 in 2021 with Sunday's loss. They will have a bye in Week 9 before facing the Washington Football Team on Nov. 14.

Adrian Phillips pick-six propels Patriots past Chargers 27-24 - Boston.com

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Adrian Phillips intercepted two passes, returning one for the go-ahead touchdown against his former team, Nick Folk kicked four field goals, and the New England Patriots rallied for a 27-24 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday.

It was the first multi-interception game for Phillips, who played six seasons for the Chargers (2014-19) before signing with the Patriots last year. With 10:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, he picked off a pass intended for Jared Cook, who was not on the same page as Justin Herbert, and returned it 26 yards to put the Patriots back in front. Rookie Mac Jones then connected with Jakobi Meyers on the 2-point conversion to give New England a seven-point advantage.

Folk, who has three games this season with four field goals, split the uprights from 30 yards with 2:21 remaining to put the Patriots up by double digits.

Joshua Palmer brought the Chargers within a field goal with 40 seconds remaining when he hauled in a 24-yard strike from Herbert for his first NFL touchdown. Former Chargers tight end Hunter Henry recovered the ensuing onside kick for the Patriots.

New England (4-4) started the season 1-3 but has won two straight and three of its last four. Los Angeles (4-3) has dropped two straight.

Damien Harris, looking for his third straight 100-yard rushing game, had 19 carries for 76 yards.

Advertisement:

Jones, who had completed 70.4% of his passes in his first seven games, had one of his worst performances, completing 18 of 35 passes for 217 yards.

It was an equally bad game for Herbert, who was 18 of 35 for 223 yards with two touchdown and two interceptions.

Austin Ekeler had 124 scrimmage yards (64 rushing, 60 receiving).

The Chargers scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions to take a 14-7 lead. Los Angeles scored on its opening drive for the third time this season as Ekeler went 5 yards up the middle.

New England responded with its fourth TD on an opening possession when Harris scored on a 1-yard carry off left guard.

Advertisement:

Los Angeles grabbed a 14-7 advantage early in the second quarter when Herbert connected with Keenan Allen for a 5-yard TD. New England would cut the margin to one at halftime on a pair of field goals by Folk.

GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES

Allen’s touchdown was set up by a 75-yard run by Justin Jackson. On second-and-10 from the Chargers 14-yard line, the fourth-year running back made a couple nice jump cuts that caused defenders to miss near the 20 before breaking free up the left sideline. Jackson was eventually tackled by J.C. Jackson at the Patriots 13.

Not only was it was it the longest run of Jackson’s career, but it was the Chargers’ second-longest run in the past 10 years. Melvin Gordon had an 87-yarder at New England in 2017.

Advertisement:

Jackson, though, suffered a quad injury and did not return.

INJURIES

Chargers: CB Michael Davis suffered a hamstring injury during the second quarter and did not return. CB Asante Samuel Jr. was being evaluated for a concussion.

UP NEXT

Patriots: visit the Carolina Panthers next Sunday.

Chargers: visit the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.

Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb has been fined five times in six games totaling almost $47,000, per report - CBS Sports

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has made many fans with his play on the field this season, but those in the league office are getting a bit tired of him. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lamb has been fined by the NFL five times over the first six games of the season.

Per Schefter, Lamb has been fined a total of $46,865. He's been fined twice for having his jersey untucked ($5,150 each time), fined for wearing his socks too low ($5,150), fined for an illegal crackback block ($10,815) and then of course fined for his infamous goodbye wave at New England Patriots defensive back Jalen Mills after scoring the game-winning touchdown in overtime ($10,300).

After racking up two different violations for having an untucked jersey, the next time Lamb is penalized for said violation will bring a $46,350 fine. According to Schefter's math, Lamb has been fined 3.75 percent of his total salary just six games into the season.

The former No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has caught 33 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns this season. He ranks 18th in the NFL in receiving yards and is tied for 12th in receiving touchdowns. The Cowboys want him to keep doing what he's doing, but maybe just check to see if his jersey is tucked in between plays.

Six Vols, Pensky Earn SEC Postseason Honors - University of Tennessee Athletics

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee head coach Brian Pensky was tabbed SEC Coach of the Year, Taylor Huff was named SEC Freshman of the Year, and six Vols have been selected to the 2021 All-Southeastern Conference teams, as the league office announced its postseason awards Sunday morning.

Voted on by the league's coaches, senior Mackenzie George earned First Team All-SEC honors while redshirt-sophomore Jaida Thomas, freshman Taylor Huff, and senior Wrenne French were named Second Team All-SEC. Tennessee landed three on the SEC All-Freshman Team with Taylor HuffJordan Fusco, and Claire Rain each making the list. Tennessee has now had nine players named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in the past eight seasons.

Brian Pensky • SEC Coach of the Year
In his 10th season on Rocky Top, Pensky led UT to its second straight SEC East Championship. With a record of 15-2-0 overall and 8-2-0 in conference play, the 2021 squad amassed the most regular-season wins in program history and didn't allow a single goal during non-conference play, setting a program-best shutout streak of 633:53 that spanned eight games. It is Pensky's first SEC Coach of the Year accolade and the first time a UT coach was tabbed since Angela Kelly in 2005.

Mackenzie George • First Team All-SEC
In her third season at Tennessee, George picks up her second All-SEC award, earning First Team All-SEC honors. With eight assists this season, George ranks first on the team in assists and has the fourth-most goals with five. She closed out the regular season strong, scoring goals in three straight games, including game-winners against Georgia and Kentucky.

Taylor Huff  SEC Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-SEC, SEC All-Freshman Team
Huff has had a breakout season in her rookie campaign, tying for second on the team in goals scored with seven while dishing out four assists. She has a knack for finding the goal in key moments, scoring in the 86th minute against No. 11 Auburn to force overtime and in the 87th minute at South Carolina to secure the 1-0 win. She is just the third Volunteer to pick up SEC Freshman of the Year honors and the first since Genna Gorman in 2004.

Jaida Thomas • Second Team All-SEC
In her redshirt-sophomore season, Thomas has scored a team-high eight goals and tallied four assists to tie for first in total points with 20. The forward from Irving, Texas, netted game-winners against FGCU, Tennessee Tech, and in her home state against Texas A&M. She also logged an assist on the game-winning goal by Mackenzie George in UT's crucial 3-1 win over Georgia. It is Thomas' second All-SEC award, having landed on the SEC All-Freshman Team last year.

Wrenne French • Second Team All-SEC
As a fifth-year senior, French anchors a Tennessee back line that has conceded just 10 goals on the year and began the season with a program-best shutout streak of 633:53. She has played a crucial role in UT's ten shutouts this season, ranking second on the team in minutes played at 1,325.

Jordan Fusco • SEC All-Freshman Team
Fusco has started nine games in her rookie season, scoring three goals and racking up five assists. She scored the game-winner against Miami in her second game on Rocky Top, and found Brooke Wilson to record an assist on the game-winner in UT's double-overtime win over No. 11 Auburn.

Claire Rain • SEC All-Freshman Team
Rain has made an immediate impact for UT, starting 16 games on the back line in her debut season. She was on the field for 405 minutes of Tennessee's program-best 633:53 shutout streak and ranks third on the team in minutes played at 1,317. Rain has found the net twice and tallied three assists, including an assist on the game-winner in UT's come-from-behind win at Texas A&M.

Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga has astonishingly eventful six-minute NBA debut in blowout win over Thunder - CBS Sports

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- One of the questions facing the Golden State Warriors this season is how they're going to balance their veteran talent and pursuit of a championship with the development of their young players, including three lottery picks from the last two years. So far it hadn't been much of an issue since two of those lottery picks, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga, had yet to play this season due to injury, and Moses Moody had only played a handful of NBA minutes.

In Saturday's 103-82 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, however, we got our first look at Kuminga, who had missed the first five games of the regular season after a preseason knee injury. Having turned 19 years old less than a month ago, Kuminga spent last season with the G League Ignite before Golden State selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in July's draft.

With the Warriors holding a 30-point lead, Kuminga entered at the 6:04 mark of the fourth quarter to a rousing ovation from the Chase Center crowd, which was eagerly anticipating his debut. Garbage time minutes can often be boring, but Kuminga made sure that wasn't the case on his special night.

He finished with three points, one steal and two fouls while going 1 for 4 from the field and 1 for 3 from 3-point range, earning the game ball from Warriors coach Steve Kerr in the process.

"I was waiting for this moment. Everybody was waiting for this moment," Kuminga said after the game. "I see the crowd went crazy for me. It felt great being out there."

His performance went far beyond the stats, though. Here's a quick look at the events that transpired during Kuminga's NBA debut.

Kuminga was unselfish for his first couple of possessions, but the Warriors were clearly force-feeding him to try to get him his first NBA points. Unfortunately, his first shot didn't go quite so well, as his baseline jumper caromed off the top corner of the backboard.

That didn't deter Kuminga's confidence, however, as he launched his next 3-pointer a couple of possessions later from 25 feet. Unfortunately, the shot only went about 24 feet.

Sometimes defense helps a player's offense get going, and Kuminga used his length and athleticism to pick up a steal on the next possession.

What's that saying? Third time's the charm? Finally, on his third 3-point attempt, Kuminga found the distance from deep for his first NBA basket. It's ironic that his first points would come on a 3, since his shooting was one of the perceived weaknesses that allowed him to drop to Golden State at No. 7.

After just a single make, Kuminga was ready for a heat check, hoisting another 3-pointer the next time down that didn't come particularly close.

The rookie closed out his night on a sour note, committing a couple of turnovers in traffic. First, he had the ball poked away from behind on a post-up attempt.

Then, after driving into the lane, he tried to find a teammate when the defense collapsed, but instead found a lucky spectator in the first row.

"He was obviously a little rusty, a little nervous out there, as you'd expect," Kerr said of Kuminga, who finished with a minus-9 in his six minutes. "He has not practiced with our team for the last three weeks, for the most part, so he's kind of starting over, starting from scratch. He's a little behind, but that's to be expected given the circumstances."

Overall this is a blip on the radar of what promises to be a long and productive NBA career for Kuminga, but he certainly brought some entertainment to the final minutes of a blowout. Now that he's got his first minutes under his belt and feels healthy, we'll see if Kuminga is able to carve out a role in the Warriors rotation.

"I feel like I fit in no matter how much time I play," Kuminga said after the game. "Even if I didn't play, I feel like I was well prepared to be with the team."

Florida demo crew finds dead woman inside condemned house; police search for answers - Fox News

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

A month after a Florida demolition crew preparing to demolish an abandoned house found the body of a woman inside, authorities still weren’t sure how she got there in what was being investigated as a homicide

"We just know she had upper body trauma," Tampa police spokeswoman Jamel Lanee said of Linda Harris, 54, according to FOX 13 of Tampa Bay.

"Of course, we have to wait for the [medical examiner's] report for the official cause of death but right now we still just want to know if the public has any information to try to determine what happened to Ms. Harris, how she ended up at this home, this abandoned home, and just figure out what happened so we can solve this case."

Tampa police released a photo of Linda Harris to the public in the hope that someone will have information about her homicide.

Harris’ body was found Sept. 28 while the demo crew was doing a walkthrough of the home, according to WFTS-TV of Tampa Bay.

The foreman at first tried to wake Harris, thinking she was asleep, according to Creative Loafing, a local news site. The crew then called the police.

The house was later demolished after investigators finished gathering evidence.

"We do want to solve this case and whoever did this to Ms. Harris we’d like to bring closure to her family," Lanee said, according to FOX 13

Six Gifts Wine Pros Want to Receive This Year | Wine Enthusiast - Wine Enthusiast Magazine Online

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Believe it or not, the holidays are coming up. And this year, it’s important to shop early to avoid any problems due to the expected shipping delays and supply chain issues.

If someone on your list loves wine, chances are you can’t go wrong with a wine-related gift.

We asked sommeliers and wine professionals what they would actually want for the holidays, and what they would recommend for wine lovers.

1. For the Wine Lover Who Loves Exclusive Bottles:

Donkey & Goat Wine Club

A wine club subscription allows a drinker to get to know a winemaker in an intimate way—by drinking the wines they’re most excited to make.

“Winemaker Tracey Brandt of Donkey & Goat is an esteemed California winemaker, having started 19 years ago in Berkeley, California,” says Margot Mazur, wine writer and educator at The Fizz. “She often releases bottles to her wine club that don’t get sold anywhere else. This allows her to experiment and make the wines that she’s most excited about for her biggest fans—wine club subscribers. Her wine club is an awesome way to connect to California wine.”

$ Varies Donkey & Goat

2. For the Wine Lover Who Enjoys All Things Local:

Local Wine

For Toronto-based wine shop Grape Witches, there’s no better gift than one that reflects the local wine scene.

“One of the lessons this pandemic has taught us is to look for delicious sips closer to home,” says Nicole Campbell, co-founder of Grape Witches. “May we suggest Canadian wine? Yes, you heard us! Try electric hybrids from Quebec star Pinard et Filles.” If those bottles aren’t available where you live, try asking an independent wine shop in your area for the best options available nowhere else.

Find bottles from Pinard et Filles at Grape Witches, or your local wine shop.

$ Varies Pinard et Filles

3. For the Nightcap Lover:

A Special-Occasion Italian Stunner

Ask any sommelier about aromatized wine and they’ll probably spill their hearts out about their love for Barolo Chinato. After dinner, an ounce or so of the stuff acts as the perfect nightcap.

“Chinato, the aromatized red wine of Piedmont, is the ultimate post-feast fireside tipple. This one has just the right balance of spice and woodsy charm,” says Michael Dupuy, owner of Boston’s Streetcar Wines.

$ Varies Vivino

4. For the Outdoor Host:

Vinglacé Wine Chiller

“A great holiday gift for wine lovers is a wine chiller. One of those stainless-steel ones or ice pack wine bottle koozies. They’re easy to travel with and super useful when you’re outdoors and don’t want your wine to warm up,” says Justine Osilla, enology student and upcoming winemaker.

$90 Food52

5. For the South American Wine Fan:

The South America Wine Guide

The South America Wine Guide by Amanda Barnes is an armchair traveler’s dream book. According to Leona De Pasquale, sommelier and wine educator, this book explores 500 years of history, 70 regions and has 40 different regional maps.

“This beautiful book has a hard cover with gold foil and Malbec-colored gilt edge,” says De Pasquale. “It’s a delightfully heavy book, yet exceedingly accessible to both wine novices and experts. A perfect gift!”

$30 Amazon

6. For the Up-and-Coming Wine Lover

Wine for Normal People

Instead of buying a huge encyclopedia for your friend who wants to learn more about what’s in their glass, William Ferguson, sommelier, wine buyer and influencer recommends Wine for Normal People.

“Elizabeth Schneider’s approach to wine education is inclusive—not exclusive,” says Ferguson. “In the book she presents serious wine knowledge as something for everyone to nerd out about because she does. Wine for Normal People is a thoughtful and indispensable guide to major wine regions, food and wine pairings and how to taste wine like a pro that anyone can appreciate—pro or not!”

Six Exercises to Get You Ready for the Winter Ski Season - The Wall Street Journal

Ski resorts have already opened to take advantage of early season snow, so it’s time to prepare your body for the slopes this winter.

Ski resorts have already opened to take advantage of early season snow, so it’s time to prepare your body for the slopes this winter.

Starting a conditioning plan about six to eight weeks before your first ski trip will help you avoid fatigued legs, sore muscles and potential injury, says Per Lundstam, director of alpine sport science for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team in Park City, Utah.

Mr. Lundstam has worked with Olympians including Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn, Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso. He is currently training the next crop of Olympic hopefuls, including U.S. Alpine Ski team athlete Sam Morse, as they prepare to qualify for the Winter Games in Beijing in February.

Mr. Morse, 25, an up-and-comer on the FIS Alpine World Cup circuit, specializes in the speed disciplines of downhill and Super G. He hits speeds over 80 miles an hour cruising down long, wide race courses, navigating tight turns and launching off jumps. Exercises that train the body to efficiently absorb and transfer force are a key part of his training routine, Mr. Lundstam says.

This training session was designed by Mr. Lundstam and targets the core and hip area and applies force in different directions to engage the stabilizing muscles and other supportive tissue that are used heavily in recreational skiing. Focus on technique and make sure the movements are driven from the core and hip area, he says.

As with any new workout, start slowly and add weight, reps and sets gradually. Warm up in advance, and rest between sets.

The Workout
Statue of Liberty

Why: This exercise promotes hip mobility in a range we aren’t accustomed to, which can reduce injury in the long term, Mr. Lundstam says.

How: Stand with your right hip and shoulder touching a wall, feet hips-width apart. Balance on your left foot. Lift your right leg until it forms a 90-degree bend at the knee. Contract your right glutes to actively push your outer right thigh into the wall while simultaneously engaging the inner and outer thigh muscles of the standing leg and your core to maintain balance. Hold for 6 to 8 seconds. Return to a standing position and repeat on the opposite leg for a total of 5 to 6 repetitions per leg, alternating sides. Work your way up to three sets.

Option: Loop a resistance band just above the bent knee and hold the opposite end with the hand that’s on the same side as the standing leg. The band should be stretched out across the body so the arm is straight. As you press the outer thigh into the wall, slowly pull the band above the left shoulder, to a half-Y position then bring it back down. Alternate this movement for a count of 6 to 8 seconds.

U.S. Alpine Ski team athlete Sam Morse performs the Statue of Liberty drill using a resistance band.

Lateral Low-Weight Shifts

Why: This exercise focuses on hip flexibility and joint stabilization. The transfer action requires constant contraction of the lower body muscles, which builds endurance, he says.

How: Start standing with feet wider than shoulders-width apart. Rest a weighted barbell behind the head, across the back of the shoulders. Keep the chest upright as you shift your body weight to the right until your hips are at knee-level. Pause, then shift your weight to the left side keeping the hips low. Perform 4 to 6 reps for 2 to 3 sets.

Options: If you’re at home, you can use a broom stick instead of a barbell to help maintain an upright chest. When the motion starts to feel easy, you can hold a broomstick or a light barbell overhead while shifting side to side.

Horizontal Runners

Why: This dynamic core-and-balance exercise targets the obliques and will help improve posture and hip strength, Mr. Lundstam says.

How: Lie down on the floor on your right side. Prop yourself on your right elbow. Make sure it is directly below your shoulder. Raise your hips off the floor so your body forms a straight line, knees to head. Stabilize the bottom foot as you step the top left foot forward and backward. Complete 14 to 16 repetitions. Perform two sets per side.

Options: Balance on your hand versus your elbow and extend the top arm straight up to the sky to further engage the core.

Mr. Morse performs horizontal runners with his feet in a TRX Suspension Trainer.

Low-Position Hip Articulations

Why: “This exercise helps prevent injuries in the lower back and hip joint through recruitment of the core, hip and hamstring musculature,” he says.

How: Stand near a weight rack, porch rail or anything you can grip with one hand. Hold it just below chest height with your right hand. Balance on your right foot and slightly hinge forward, maintaining a straight back. Place your left hand on your left hip and bring your left knee in toward the chest, while keeping the ankle flexed. Extend the left knee out to the left side, like a dog to a fire hydrant, then extend the leg until the foot is behind the buttocks and the sole of the left foot lifted toward the ceiling. Pause and squeeze the glutes. From here, rotate the leg to the starting position under the chest. Reverse the motion. Repeat this movement for two sets of 6 to 8 reps per leg.

Option: This exercise can become more challenging standing on a raised surface about 6 inches off the ground. Keep the weight in the forefoot and let the heel hover off the raised step. You could also bend the standing leg to 90 degrees, Mr. Lundstam says.

Mr. Morse demonstrates low-position hip articulations on a raised surface.

Single-Leg Romanian Dead Lift with Cable Machine Rotation

Why: The single-leg Romanian deadlift works all of the muscles on the backside of your body, while also working balance and stability, Mr. Lundstam says. By adding the rotation, you improve transfers of force from lower to upper body, and there’s the added challenge of working in opposing directions.

How: Stand with your right hip facing a cable machine or a resistance band securely attached to the knob of a closed door. Grip the cable or band with your left hand and step to the left until you feel resistance. Balance on your right leg as you pull the cable up and across the body to form a half Y-shape. Slowly bend at the hips as you extend your left leg straight behind you, and lower your torso until it is almost parallel to the floor. Simultaneously allow your left hand to move under your chest toward the anchor. Pause, and engage the core and shoulder muscles to pull the cable out and up again as you rise to stand. Repeat 10 reps per leg for two sets.

Option: Lift the knee higher in the upright position for an added challenge.

Mr. Morse does single-leg Romanian deadlifts with a cable machine rotation.

Split Squat With Weight Rotation

Why: Performing this hip-stabilizing exercise with load will help improve balance and coordination, while working the deep hip musculature, he says. It can also help reduce the risk of lower back injuries, he adds.

How: Stand in a lunge, with your right knee bent at 90 degrees and back left foot elevated, pushing against a wall. The ball of the back foot could also rest against a bench or chair. Hold a weighted plate or weighted object overhead with straight arms. Push the back foot into the wall as you maintain a straight spine and rotate and lower the weight down the right hip. Engage the core to keep your hips even. Raise the weight back overhead, then lower to the left hip. Repeat two sets of five reps per leg.

Option: Make this more difficult by placing the front foot on an unstable surface like a pillow.

Gigi Hadid left Paris Fashion Week early amid Zayn Malik, Yolanda fight - Page Six

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Gigi Hadid fled Paris Fashion Week early seemingly to handle Zayn Malik’s blowout fight with Yolanda Hadid last month.

The supermodel was spotted arriving stateside at JFK airport on Sept. 30 — the same day she was scheduled to walk in the Isabel Marant fashion show. The day before, Hadid had been photographed leaving her final fitting for the haute couture brand.

Hadid did, however, walk in the Coperni fashion show at 10 a.m. (Paris time) on Sept. 30 before leaving the country. The Isabel Marant was scheduled for 8 p.m.

Reps for Isabel Marant and Hadid didn’t immediately return Page Six’s requests for comment.

Instead, the 26-year-old flew home, purportedly to address the fight, which occurred on Sept. 29, between her now-ex-boyfriend and her mother.

As Page Six reported, Zayn pleaded no contest to harassing Yolanda during a fight in which he allegedly referred to her as a “Dutch slut” and screamed about his “sperm.” He also allegedly pushed her into a dresser during the altercation.

Malik, 28, was at the Pennsylvania home he shared with Gigi when the volatile argument erupted, according to the scorching citation we obtained.

The singer allegedly called Yolanda, 57, a “f–king Dutch slut” and ordered her to “stay away from [my] f–king daughter.” He also mentioned “the f–king sperm that came out of [his] f–king c–k.”

The documents claimed Malik “grabbed and shoved [Yolanda] into a dresser, causing mental anguish and physical pain,” though he’s vehemently denied making any physical contact.

He also allegedly screamed at Gigi reportedly over the phone, “Strap on some f–king balls and defend your partner against your f–king mother in my house.”

As part of the former One Directioner’s plea, Malik was fined and ordered to 90 days of probation for each count for a total of 360 days. He must also complete an anger management class and a domestic violence supervision program and cannot have any contact with Yolanda or the security guard who was on the scene.

If all conditions are met after six months with no violations, the judge can terminate his probation.

The “Pillowtalk” singer and Gigi share 1-year-old daughter Khai.

Patrick Williams out four-to-six months with wrist injury - NBC Sports Chicago

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Billy Donovan opened his post-practice media session on Friday by saying an MRI revealed Patrick Williams to have a "significant wrist injury."

That was confirmed, to say the least, by a team release hours later announcing that Williams will miss the next four-to-six months after undergoing surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left wrist.

The front of that timeline would see Williams return in late February; the back end would see him return in late April. The playoffs begin April 16, with the first round running through the end of the month, meaning Williams could very well miss the rest of the regular season.

Williams suffered the injury on a hard fall during the third quarter of Thursday's 104-103 loss to the New York Knicks. Williams skied for a dunk attempt on the play, but was fouled by Knicks center Mitchell Robinson, who was assessed a Flagrant 1 for the infraction. Williams took and made both free-throw attempts, then exited to the Chicago Bulls' locker room at the next stoppage.

"I don’t know Robinson personally. It would be really, really difficult for me to say there was ever any ill intent," Donovan said. "I think if he knew that Patrick had a significant injury to his wrist, he would feel bad. He tried to come over. Sometimes flagrant fouls get called where a guy isn’t trying to get a flagrant.

"I don’t think Robinson was trying to hurt Patrick on the play at all. It was just unfortunate. He landed kind of funny. If the foul would’ve occurred and it was flagrant and Patrick landed on both feet and not his wrist, nobody would be talking about it today. So I don’t think there was any ill intent there at all."

Williams' regular season ends with averages of 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per game. He missed three of the team's four preseason contests with an ankle sprain, then was hampered early in the regular season by a shoulder sprain. A somber tone after Williams followed up a rookie season in which he started 71 of 72 games with a strong Summer League showing.

"I feel bad for him," Donovan said. "He obviously missed a month with the ankle. I thought he had a great summer considering the fact he got drafted and came right to camp with no Summer League (last year). He ended up a really durable player for us last year. He missed one game and pretty much was guarding all the best players on the other team throughout the entire league and not really having ever played against those guys.

"I think he had a wealth of knowledge and experience that this summer needed to be productive for him. And it was. And it’s just unfortunate that he can’t see a lot of that work out at this point in time. I’m disappointed for him."

Now, the Bulls' undersized frontline shrinks even smaller. The 6-foot-4 Javonte Green started at power forward in Williams' stead during the preseason — now averaging 15.8 minutes off the bench, he appears a logical candidate for an increased role. The seldom-used Derrick Jones Jr. could be as well. Donovan also noted after practice that going small with DeMar DeRozan at power forward or trotting out four-guard lineups featuring Alex Caruso or Lonzo Ball at that position are options on the table.

Whatever the plan ends up being, needless to say it's a brutal blow for the Bulls and Williams.

Metroid Dread’s new demo lets you try one of the best games of the year for free - The Verge

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Nintendo is now offering a free demo of Metroid Dread, meaning you can try one of the best games of the year at no cost before plunking down the cash to buy the full game. You can grab the demo from Nintendo’s website (click the “Download Demo” link) or on the eShop on your Switch.

If you’re on the fence about Metroid Dread, I really recommend you download the demo to give the game a shot. If you’ve played a 2D Metroid, you’ll probably feel right at home, as Dread is an excellent evolution of action and exploration the games are known for. But the game mixes up the formula a bit with tense chase sequences where you’re fleeing from powerful robots called E.M.M.I. The boss fights are also quite good, though there are a few too many of them, which can slow down the game’s pace. Check out our review if you want to learn more.

Six takeaways from the latest Minneapolis campaign finance reports - MinnPost

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

It’s the final stretch before voting ends on Nov. 2 for the 2021 Minneapolis city elections.

As candidates for mayor and City Council — along with the political groups formed to support or oppose three charter amendments on this year’s ballot — offer their closing arguments, the campaigns had to file finance reports this week. Here are six takeaways from those reports, which track the money raised and spent since the last reports were filed in August:

The biggest groups — on both sides of the public safety amendment — raised a lot of dough

As anyone who lives in Minneapolis can tell you, as the debate around the three charter amendments on the ballot picked up steam, so did the number of mailers voters received. That was especially true for the public safety ballot question.

And while mailers aren’t the only thing the groups hoping to influence the vote have spent money on, they have been one indication of just how much money has been spent on this election.

Both Yes 4 Minneapolis — the coalition responsible for the petition drive that placed the public safety amendment proposal to get rid of MPD on the ballot — as well as All of Mpls, the group that opposes ‘dismantling’ the police department, have raised well over $1 million since the last reporting period.

Yes 4 Minneapolis raised $1.3 million during the reporting period, bringing its total for the year to $1.8 million. On the other side, AllofMpls raised slightly less than $1.5 million during the reporting period, bringing the total amount it raised for the year to $1.6 million.

Rent control opponents raised more than $4 million

For all the attention given the campaign around the public safety measure, it’s a group opposing Question 3 — which would change the Minneapolis charter to allow for the city council to implement rent control — that has managed to raise more money than any other. The Sensible Housing Ballot Committee — made up of property owners, realtors, building trades unions and local chambers of commerce — raised $4.3 million during the reporting period. That dwarfed the among raised by the main proponent of Question 3, Home to Stay Minneapolis, which raised $350,000.

Frey continues to outraise his opponents in mayoral race

The intense criticism of Jacob Frey’s performance as mayor and the presence of numerous candidates clamoring to unseat him has not impacted his ability to raise money.

The first finance reports filed in August showed that Frey had raised more than $380,000 up to that point, which eclipsed the combined total raised by two of his most prominent challengers: Shelia Nezhad, who raised about $119,000, and Kate Knuth, who raised $136,000. At the time, AJ Awed was the only mayoral candidate to come close to Frey, raising more than $230,000 during that period.

Since August, Frey has continued to outraise his competitors. His campaign raised another $292,000 during the most recent reporting period and has more than $150,000 left to spend. Knuth raised $91,000 during the period and now has $48,000 cash-on-hand; Nezhad raised $112,000 during the period and had just under $50,000 cash-on-hand; Awed raised $25,000 and now has $28,000 cash-on-hand.

After falling behind in funding as a City Council candidate, it’s hard to catch up

As in the mayoral race, city council candidates who went into the most recent reporting period with more money tended to maintain that gap.

In Ward 3, challenger Michael Rainville had $40,000 more money raised in August than incumbent Steve Fletcher. As of October, Rainville has raised $146,891 for the year, while Fletcher raised a little over $50,000 so far.

Latrisha Vetaw, who is making a challenge in Ward 4, had a similar fundraising lead during the first fundraising period, raising $30,000 more than incumbent Phillipe Cunningham. Last week, Vetaw’s campaign reported raising a total of $100,000 for the year, which beats out Cunningham’s haul by nearly $60,000.

Yusra Arab, a candidate challenging incumbent Cam Gordon in Ward 2, had a $20,000 fundraising advantage in August over another challenger, Robin Wonsley Worlobah. As of the latest reporting period, Arab’s fundraising lead has ballooned to $38,295. Arab has raised a total of $116,030 this year, while Worlobah raised $77,735. Gordon, after taking in a little more than $11,000 this reporting period, raised a total of $20,000 for his reelection this year, but also had just $991 of cash-on-hand

Though not many candidates were able to make up ground fundraising doesn’t mean its impossible to do. Kevin Reich, the incumbent in Ward 1, raised $4,000 less than his challenger, Elliot Payne, in the previous reporting period. Since then, Reich raised a little more than $26,000, and had more than $34,000 cash on hand as of the last reporting deadline. Payne, who raised $19,000 during the reporting period, now has just under $5,000 on hand.

Being a city council incumbent is still (usually) an advantage

In Ward 2, Arab and Worlobah have far outraised incumbent Green Party member Cam Gordon, one of only two incumbents not to have a fundraising advantage this year. The other is Ward 11’s Jeremy Shroeder, whose main challenger, Emily Koski, has raised $112,000 so far this year. Schroeder managed to raise just over $37,000 for his race. For the final stretch, Koski has nearly $60,000 on hand, while Shroeder has less than half that.

Article continues after advertisement

But ward races with incumbents typically go the route of the race in Ward 7. The longest-tenured City Council member, Lisa Goodman, has raised more than $170,000 so far this year to fend off two challengers, Nick Kor and Teqen Zea-Aida, neither of whom came anywhere close to that total. The incumbents in Ward 13 (Linea Palmisano), Ward 12 (Andrew Johnson), Ward 8 (Andrea Jenkins), Ward 6 (Jamal Osman), and Ward 1 (Reich) all have more cash on hand than their respective challengers in the final days of the election.

Most of the best-funded council candidates are opposed to the public safety amendment

There were five city council candidates that raised more than $100,000 for their campaigns this year: Rainville, Vetaw, Goodman, Ward 10 candidate Aisha Chughtai, and Koski. Of those, only Chughtai is in favor of Question 2, eliminating the Minneapolis Police Department and replacing it with a new Department of Public Safety.
