March 12, 2020, should have been a crowning moment for Six. The musical — a high-energy pop extravaganza portraying the lives of the six wives of King Henry VIII — was poised for its Broadway opening on the heels of hit productions in the U.K. and around the globe, a successful cast album, and a royal court of obsessed fans already singing its praises. But the date became famous for a very different reason, as theaters were shut down that very day due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Six was denied its moment then, but 19 months later the cast and creative team finally got the chance to reclaim it, opening in front of an exuberant (and star-studded) crowd at New York City's Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Oct. 3. "We've been looking forward to this for a long time," says Samantha Pauly (second from right), who plays Katherine Howard. "We're overjoyed that it finally could happen and audiences have another chance to see the show." Here, EW takes you inside the theater — as well as backstage and to the after-party — for that much-anticipated coronation.
