CHICAGO – Behind six in double figures and a season-best 58 percent shooting from the field, DePaul took down Eastern Michigan, 101-63, on Sunday afternoon to pick up its sixth win of the season and remain unbeaten.
Javon Freeman-Liberty led all scorers with 22 points in 25 minutes of action to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Nick Ongenda put up 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
Sophomore David Jones extended his double-figure scoring streak to six games with his 12 points while dishing out a career-high five assists and collecting five rebounds.
Ongenda and Freeman-Liberty combined for the first 11 points on the afternoon as DePaul and Eastern Michigan traded buckets in the early going.
With the score knotted at 22 apiece after 12 and a half minutes of action, the Blue Demons broke open a 31-7 run to close out the half and head into the locker room leading 53-29.
Freeman-Liberty scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in the first stanza alone as the Blue Demons put up its highest scoring output in a first half this season. Courvoisier McCauley came off the bench to provide a spark for DePaul in the first half with nine points shooting 3-for-3 from the field including a pair from long range.
Through the first 20 minutes, DePaul forced 11 turnovers and poured in 18 points off the Eagles miscuses.
DePaul kept its foot on the gas to open the second frame with the 10 points in the first 105 seconds.
DePaul took its largest lead of the contest at 3:14 in the second frame on a Yor Anei jumper to bring the score to 97-54.
Monty Scott led Eastern Michigan (2-4) with 18 points.
