Square Enix and PlatinumGames have announced that Babylon's Fall will be getting a demo for PS4 and PS5. As reported by GamesTalk (thanks, VGC), the demo will launch on February 25 – a week ahead of the official March 3 release date – so that players can try it out and make an informed decision before purchasing it.
You will be able to team up in groups of four and the demo will allow for save data to be transferred over to the final version, so you won't lose any of the progress you make over the week. Season 1 of Babylon's Fall will be called Eternal Tower and will run from February 25 to May 31. It will feature standard and premium versions of a battle pass, with the premium pass being made available for free for the first season.
A lot has been going on with PlatinumGames since the start of the year. In January, CEO Kenichi Sato resigned from the position he held since 2016. In his statement he said that the company needs "to accelerate our efforts to create new games that only PlatinumGames can create, and I have decided that the best way to do this is to hand over the presidency to [Atsushi] Inaba, who has been the studio head of PlatinumGames for many years and has demonstrated his skills in the creative side of games.”
Then came a rollercoaster of announcements. The first one came from newly appointed CEO Inaba, who said that the studio will shift its focus to live service games. In an interview, he mentioned that PlatinumGames will be taking focus away from "one-off, well-designed" games like Bayonetta and focus more on tiles that "can be enjoyed and loved for a longer period of time".
On the plus side, it looks like the studio wants to resurrect Scalebound, the highly-anticipated action RPG which was shelved back in 2017. In a recent interview, Inaba said that game director Hideki Kamiya “has been talking about wanting to work on Scalebound again for a while.” “I’d like to appeal to Phil Spencer directly," Kamiya replied. "Let’s do it, Phil!”
