SALEM — A list of five properties in Salem has been submitted for possible demolition, with a meeting of the Board of Housing Appeals set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at city hall to consider the recommendations.
Sal Salvino, city Director of Housing/Housing Inspector, said all five properties are vacant. According to his reports, there have been multiple housing inspections and violations, with all five condemned due to the conditions and in some cases structural problems.
He said there’s $30,000 to $35,000 in the budget for demolitions, but he’s checking into the possibility of grant money to cover the costs. He noted there will be a special assessment on each property in an effort to recoup the costs.
The properties on the list include:
— 347 Newgarden Ave., listed owner Bonita Welling, Salem, declared unfit for human habitation in February 2021, ordered for demolition August 2021, former meth lab.
— 317 N. Ellsworth Ave., listed owner Earl Schory II, Salem, condemned July 18, 2019 for demolition.
— 241 W. Fifth St., listed owners Gloria Wainwright and Roy Wainwright, Oakwood, condemned April 5 (pending results Housing Code Inspection Report May 5)
