Outpath: First Journey is a free demo that's like Forager in first-person - Rock Paper Shotgun

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Last week, developer David Moralejo Sánchez released Outpath: First Journey, a free "prologue chapter" for a first-person mix of clicker and crafting due in 2023. As of right now, it has an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam and over 700 reviews.

In Minecraft, you punch trees, gather resources, and gradually kit yourself out until you're able to survive the night and build your grand creative vision. In idle games, you gradually accrue resources which you spend in order to accrue future resources more swiftly.

Outpath: First Journey smooshes these two things together. You gather resources, you craft items and machinery, and they in turn accrue you more resources; or, you don't, and you play it like an idle game where progress is tied to time rather than your own activity. Either way, eventually you buy more land to expand upon, and eventually you automate every part of the process.

There's another way to describe this: it's first-person Forager, which already mixed idle and survival games, island-buying and all. That's not a bad thing, given how much time I put into Forager. Or, it is a bad thing, given how much time I put into Forager. These sorts of games are deadly time sinks. I do wonder, however, if being embodied from a first-person perspective will stop players running Outpath in the background, unattended, as idle games are intended to be.

You can grab Outpath: First Journey for free from Steam. There's also a store page for the full game, Outpath, with a planned release date of sometime in 2023.

Thanks, PC Gamer.

Huge Project: The Perceiver PS5, PS4 Gameplay Demo Is One to Watch - Push Square

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

We’re not confident enough to say Project: The Perceiver will be a must have just yet, but it certainly looks promising. After an impressive debut earlier in the year, Chinese developer Papergames and its subsidiary 17ZHE Studio have showcased a whopping 45 minutes of footage from a prototype build of the upcoming PS5 and PS4 character action game.

Considering its length, this isn’t the most engaging gameplay video you’re likely to see – in fact, it largely centres on a series of combat gauntlets in largely samey environments. However, there’s clear promise here: the game looks like a mix of Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and that’s great inspiration from our perspective.

Clearly this is still somewhat early, and we’re unlikely to get our mitts on it for quite some time. After the jaw-dropping reveal trailer, though, it’s reassuring to see some substance here – it’ll be interesting to see whether Sony picks up this project, as it’s done with a number of the higher-profile Chinese games announced over the past few years.

AEW Dynamite Viewership Decreases On 12/28, Demo Rating Drops

AEW Dynamite viewership saw a decrease on December 28, which was headlined by an AEW TNT Title match between Samoa Joe and Wardlow.

According to Showbuzz Daily, 876,000 viewers watched the show on Wednesday night, and it drew a 0.28 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. The viewership was down from the December 21 episode when 957,000 viewers tuned in. The demo also dropped from last week‘s episode, which drew a 0.30 rating in the same demographic.

With the decrease in viewership, Dynamite took the fifth spot in the demographic among cable originals overall Wednesday night. On cable, they were only defeated by ESPN’s coverage of multiple NCAA College Football bowl games, according to Showbuzz Daily.

This week’s show kicked off with Bryan Danielson defeating “All Ego” Ethan Page. The main event saw Samoa Joe defeat Wardlow to retain the AEW TNT Championship. Following the matchup, Joe cut Wardlow’s hair before being attacked by Darby Allin and his skateboard as Dynamite went off the air.

Try the demo for Outpath, a fusion of Minecraft and clicker games - PC Gamer

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
Audio player loading…

An interesting-sounding experiment has picked up Overwhelmingly Positive Steam reviews over the past week: It's a demo called Outpath: The First Journey for a game coming in 2023 that'll be properly called Outpath. It's billed as a prologue chapter, but it's very much a demo of what seems to be planned for the main game. I think it'll appeal to fans of games like Forager foremost, but it'll also attract the idle-clicker, survival crafting, and production optimization crowds.

Playing is all about your expected gathering of resources, collecting of doodads, and crafting of tools, but layers an automation aspect on top, letting you set up your base to function without you. As you get more resources you buy more islands, with more resources—you know the drill on this. The experimental choice here is that in theory Outpath is designed to let you idle in a way that games like Forager or Satisfactory or Minecraft aren't quite designed for.

The goal is that it's a fusion of those styles—something that Forager did pretty well but which wasn't quite an equivalent or as satisfying playstyle as active play.

The result feels a lot like Forager, but gives a lot of twists due to its 3D environment and extremely chill gameplay. It's not quite as polished as others in the genre—it is, after all, one of those prologue-demos we see so many of these days. As it stands, there's about 10 hours of gameplay here to check out, and a very calm 10 hours it is.

If you like the games I've namechecked above, then, well, this might be one for you to check the demo of. If you just kind-of like those games then you might want to wait to see if the full version is more polished. Or don't. As always, I'm not your dad.

You can find Outpath: The First Journey (opens in new tab) on Steam, and the page for Outpath (opens in new tab) itself as well. It's made by solo developer David Moralejo Sánchez and published by GrabTheGames and UpgradePoint.

WWE RAW Draws Lowest Viewership and Key Demo Rating for the Best Of 2022 Show, Averages for the Year - Wrestling Headlines

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Monday’s taped “Best Of 2022” edition of WWE RAW drew an average of 1.075 million viewers on the USA Network, according to Nielsen via Showbuzz Daily.

This is down 36.95% from last week’s 1.705 million viewers for the final live red brand episode of 2022.

For this week’s show, the first hour drew 1.331 million viewers (last week’s hour 1 – 1.781 million), the second hour drew 1.041 million viewers (last week’s hour 2 – 1.767 million) and the final hour drew 852,000 viewers (last week’s hour 3 – 1.568 million).

Monday’s RAW drew a 0.27 rating in the 18-49 key demographic. This is down 37.20% from last week’s 0.43 key demo rating. The 0.27 key demo rating represents 352,000 18-49 viewers, which is down 36.80% from the 557,000 18-49 viewers that last week’s 0.43 key demo rating represented, according to Wrestlenomics.

RAW ranked #8 for the night on the Cable Top 150 with the 0.27 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, tied with the Liverpool vs. Aston Villa Premier League game on USA Network, which also drew 795,000 viewers. This ranking is down from last week’s #7 ranking. The NFL Monday Night Football game between the Chargers and the Colts on ESPN at 8:13pm topped the night on the Cable Top 150 with a 3.01 key demo rating. The game also topped the night on cable in viewership with 10.944 million.

RAW ranked #25 for the night in viewership on cable this week, behind the Chargers vs. Colts NFL game on ESPN, Monday Night Kickoff on ESPN, Monday Night Post-game on ESPN, The Five, the New Mexico vs. Bowling Green College Football Bowl Game, Sportscenter at midnight, Jesse Watters Primetime, Monday Night Countdown on ESPN, Special Report with Bret Baier, Tucker Carlson Tonight, FOX News Live at 10am, FOX News Live at 9am, Outnumbered, FOX & Friends at 8am, FOX News Live at 11am, Gutfeld!, FOX News Live at 1pm, FOX News Live at 2pm, Kids Baking Championship, Deadline: White House, The Ingraham Angle, Hannity, Celebrity IOU, and Your World with Neil Cavuto. This is down from last week’s #17 ranking for the night in viewership on cable.

Monday’s RAW drew low numbers this week due to the nature of the show, but that was expected. This is the lowest total audience and the lowest key demo rating in the history of WWE’s flagship TV show. The third hour of RAW drew just 852,000 viewers this week, a new record low for hour three. The first hour of RAW had an especially high tune-out rate, while the second hour was 22% lower than the first hour in total viewership. Viewership was down 36% from the average of hour one to hour three, which is the strongest tune-out rate since three hours of RAW became the new normal in 2012. This isn’t as notable as it would be during a normal week, and somewhat expected due to the format of the show. RAW had strong competition from Week 16 of NFL Monday Night Football this week as the Chargers vs. Colts game drew over 24 million viewers on ESPN, including the related programs. Additional sports competition included one College Football Bowl game on ESPN, three Premier League soccer games on USA Network, one Premier League soccer game on Universo, two NBA games on NBA-TV, and one Copa por Mexico soccer game on TUDN. This week’s RAW viewership was down 36.95% from last week’s episode, while this week’s key demo rating was down 37.20% from last week.

Monday’s RAW viewership was down 32.47% from the same week in 2021, while the 18-49 key demo rating was down 34.14% from the same week in 2021. The 2021 show was a regular live RAW episode.

The RAW averages for 2022 are also in. RAW averaged 1.735 million viewers per episode over 52 episodes this year. This is down 1.19% from the 2021 viewership average of 1.756 million viewers. RAW averaged a 0.46 18-49 key demo rating per episode over 52 episodes in 2022. This is down 8% from the 2021 key demo rating of 0.50 per episode.

Monday’s WWE RAW was a taped show featuring the “Absolute Best” moments of 2022 from both brands. There were no live matches or segments.

Sinclair To Demo New ATSC 3.0 Powered Car Infotainment System - RadioInsight

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Sinclair One Media ATSC 3 3.0

Sinclair Broadcast Group will demo an automotive infotainment system delivered via ATSC 3.0 television broadcasts at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The new system will also start undergoing user trials at car dealers in the Baltimore area next year. Sinclair states that their digital TV powered platform will receive 100+ local radio stations including digital rebroadcasts of AM stations without the electric noise, ATSC 3.0 powered television signals, and play audio and video service on both in-car displays and personal devices.

That last line adds extra importance as it could lead to the development of a catch-all digital app capable of accessing any broadcast station in a market via any digital device.

Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBGI) will demonstrate live infotainment delivered for connected vehicles at the ATSC booth during the CES® 2023 in Las Vegas. For more than 50 years, CES® has been the global stage for innovation. Delivered by NextGen Broadcast (ATSC 3.0), this innovative new service is a supplement to existing infotainment systems, adding new features and capabilities.

The service is being readied for consumer trials by several auto dealerships in the Baltimore, MD region. Drive testing is underway and is yet another NextGen Broadcast use case that shows the flexible use of broadcast channels. The exhibit will be a real-time demonstration of a variety of services that can be delivered live to a moving Connected Vehicle.

The new services will provide the ability to:

  • Receive 100 or more live local radio station channels of audio programming,
  • Receive live in-car rebroadcast of AM radio station services without interference from electronic systems,
  • Receive NextGen Broadcast stations operating in the region inside a moving vehicle with no signal loss,
  • Play audio and video services on in-car displays, and
  • Play audio and video services on personal devices inside the car.

This demonstration receives live signals from multiple ‘in-market’ local broadcasters. The demo system uses Silicon Dust’s HomeRun FLEX 4K device in conjunction with ONE Media’s automotive audio interface built in collaboration with OpenZNet.

Said Mark Aitken, President of ONE Media 3.0, “At CES, we are looking for feedback from the automotive community on what forms of live infotainment they would like to see added into vehicles. Using NextGen Broadcast technology combined with live broadcast services give us tremendous flexibility. The same receiver can provide public services such as beaming live emergency information from local broadcast newsrooms directly to vehicles during critical times and blanketing highway regions with live situational awareness information for vehicle to everyone (V2X) applications.”

A single receiver brings a variety of new services in the move into the age of Connected Vehicles. Those include enhanced GPS, over-the-air software updates, Infotainment (audio, video and others) and a number of V2X and cellular vehicle to everyone (C-V2X) services. A recent series of webinars hosted by Sinclair focused on the automotive sector and the value an ATSC 3.0 receiver brings into mobile vehicles. See: https://ift.tt/dT0tKS2.

As Sinclair, working with its valued partners, builds out a new Broadcast Core Network and the internetworking components that make up a first ever Broadcast Data Distribution Platform (a wireless data highway), Broadcasters will find new economics that bring value beyond simple TV.

One of PC VR's Most Anticipated Titles Gets Updated Demo Prior to March Launch - Road to VR

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Vertigo 2, the hotly awaited sequel to the original 2016 single-player VR adventure, has had the same demo on Steam for the past three years. Now developer Zulubo Productions has brought a complete overhaul to the free demo, which the studio says better reflects the quality of the final game.

No new content or areas have been added to the demo, although you may still want to pop your head in to see just how the update shows off “how the final game will look and feel,” the studio says.

In addition to adding better visuals and physics, the demo’s intro area has been removed altogether, something the studio says will “get new players right into action.”

Here’s the change list, courtesy Zulubo Productions:

  • Weapon interaction has been overhauled and now uses physics
  • Arm and upper body IK has been added
  • Enemy AI has been greatly improved
  • Graphics and sounds have been polished
  • Environments are more detailed and interactive
  • Lighting has been improved
  • Performance has been improved
  • Detailed graphics settings and other options have been added

Vertigo 2 is slated to take PC VR players deep underground in the reaches of Quantum Reactor VII, again setting you on an upwards journey back to your home on the surface. You’ll face bizarre alien flora and fauna leaking from other universes—deadly android security forces included. The game is also set to feature a branching narrative, which promises plenty of surprises around each corner.

Vertigo 2 is slated to launch on SteamVR headsets on March 30th, 2023. If you haven’t had a chance to play the original Vertigo, the game’s rerelease Vertigo Remastered (2020) may still show a bit of its pioneering 2016 roots, but admittedly with much higher quality visuals and interactions. Well worth a play-through to give you something to do while you wait!

Check out the updated Vertigo 2 trailer below:

DeMo, GST destroyed MSMEs & agri: Rahul Gandhi - The Tribune India

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

New Delhi, December 24

Alleging a nexus between PM Narendra Modi and corporate houses, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said here today that the Modi government had used demonetisation and GST as tools to destroy small traders, MSMEs and agriculture, the three sectors that generated the maximum jobs, only to benefit big businesses.

He was speaking near the Red Fort on the conclusion of the first phase of “Bharat Jodo Yatra” that was launched at Kanyakumari on September 7. “The question does not arise (of youths getting jobs). You have broken the backbone of those who generated jobs. And, why did you do that? Because you wanted to help their owners”, Rahul said, pointing at news channel crews covering the event.

He claimed the Hindu versus Muslim theme was deliberately played on television channels to divert the attention of viewers from “real issues”. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Modi government of running away from a debate in Parliament on pressing issues such as the LAC. Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan also addressed the gathering.

Compromising people’s safety. He is walking to safeguard interests of his family, not that of the nation. — Anurag Thakur, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister

Try One Piece Odyssey in Free PS5, PS4 Demo from 10th January - Push Square

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

One Piece Odyssey is taking the long-running anime in a new direction next year, adopting a turn-based combat system as opposed to the action that Straw Hat Pirate aficionados may be accustomed to. You’re probably going to want to try it out for yourself then, yeah? Well, fortunately publisher Bandai Namco has got your back, and is adding a demo to the PS Store on 10th January, 2023.

The full game will, of course, launch a few days later, on 13th January, 2023, but in this age of digital downloads, there’s no real obligation to pre-order early anymore – unless you really want a physical copy, of course. Either way, you’ll have a few days to try out the demo and make up your mind before rushing to your favourite retailer – all good.

There’s a new trailer above which should give you a flavour for the release’s cinematics. Is this one on your radar at all? Will you be giving the demo a whirl? Let us know in the comments section below.

Rethink plan to exit mental health 'demo' - Star Tribune

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Opinion editor's note: Editorials represent the opinions of the Star Tribune Editorial Board, which operates independently from the newsroom.

•••

While four members of Gov. Tim Walz's cabinet recently announced that they would not seek reappointment, one important commissioner is staying on to serve in a second gubernatorial term.

Jodi Harpstead leads the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). It is a daunting assignment with responsibilities that include running the state's medical and public assistance programs as well as the direct care and treatment system.

Harpstead stepped in to lead the agency in August 2019 after leadership turnover and misspending allegations roiled the agency. She's worked hard to bolster financial controls and improve frayed legislative relationships.

That same pragmatic problem-solving is needed again to address a troubling rift between DHS and the state's mental health community. At issue: an agency decision to exit a federal program that is pioneering a promising next-generation care model.

Although an interview this week with DHS suggests the agency isn't inclined to reconsider, the Editorial Board encourages the agency to do so. Harpstead and her agency's top behavioral health lieutenants should also sit down soon with mental health advocates who contend the agency is making the wrong decision, is leaving millions in federal funding on the table and has not been transparent about its rationale.

The innovative federal program at the heart of the dispute is known as the "Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) National Demonstration."

Among the requirements to be a CCBHC: Crisis services that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, CCBHCs must provide "a comprehensive array of services so that people who need care are not caught trying to piece together the behavioral health support they need across multiple providers," according to federal officials.

To do this, CCBHCs must deliver core services that include crisis assistance, screening and risk assessment, treatment planning, outpatient mental health and substance use services, targeted case management and community-based mental health care for veterans. Also on this list are psychiatric rehabilitation services and "peer, family support and counselor" services.

If it seems like a lot, it is. But that's the beauty of the CCBHC approach. It's a one-stop shop, helping people access care quickly and better navigate a fragmented care system. This is critical to help people in crisis and ensure they get ongoing care.

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, is a CCBHC advocate. His office reports that "Statistics from the Department of Health and Human Services show that people who received services at these clinics had 63.2% fewer emergency department visits; spent 60.3% less time in jails; and saw a 40.7% decrease in homelessness."

There are more than 450 CCBHCs nationwide. Minnesota, to its credit, was one of the program's early adopters and currently has 13 CCBHCs, with another eight federal grantees coming online, giving the state a total of 21 "within the next four years," according to mental health advocates.

As its name suggests, the program and the aid to implement the CCBHC model weren't intended to be permanent. However, federal lawmakers have passed multiple extensions. In 2022, Congress expanded the program and extended funding through fall 2025.

DHS's decision to exit next month comes down to the state needing to "graduate" the program and transition away from federal support, with the state's current massive surplus providing an opportunity to make up for lost federal dollars. Mental health advocates opposing this decision estimate that the state could lose up to $30 million in annual federal matching funds.

The DHS decision may have been made before Congress renewed its CCBHC commitment, raising questions about whether this is the appropriate time to "graduate." Leadership churn within DHS's behavioral health division raises further concerns.

The advocates opposing the DHS decision are some of the state's most respected mental health organizations — the National Alliance on Mental Illness's state chapter, the Minnesota Association of Community Health Programs and prominent providers.

"In choosing to remove Minnesota from the Demo, the state's national reputation is impacted, going from one of the pioneering states in transforming mental health care in the U.S. to dropping behind as the rest of the nation strives to join the Demo," a joint statement said.

The gaping divide between DHS and these important voices is alarming and needs remedy. Harpstead is a capable commissioner and should see this as an opportunity for her team to navigate differences and build consensus.
