In a conversation during the Davos 2024 conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that he thinks the Rabbit R1 demo at CES 2024 was the ‘most impressive’ demo he saw since the Apple event in 2007 where Steve Job unveiled the iPhone for the first time. “I thought the demo of the Rabbit OS and the device was fantasticâ€æI think I must say, after Jobs and the launch of iPhone, probably one of the most impressive presentations I've seen,” Nadella told Bloomberg.

Nadella spoke about the current status of artificial intelligence and highlighted the evolving nature of the technology with the emergence of more potent models and products. He proposed a vision where the Rabbit symbolises a forthcoming era in which operating systems centered around agents, rather than separate applications, manage all user interactions.

Nadella also spoke about the current status of artificial intelligence and a future where the interaction we will experience with computers will see a shift towards engagement with an agent present on all your devices –– something like the Rabbit R1. “That, I think, is going to be the defining category of this next generation,” said Nadella.

The AI startup Rabbit introduced a compelling new gadget during CES 2024, drawing considerable attention. The device, known as the Rabbit R1, has witnessed impressive sales, surpassing 10,000 units within the first day of its launch. Described as resembling a more square-shaped Game Boy, it boasts a touchscreen, walkie-talkie capabilities, and a camera, yet it distinguishes itself from smartphones. In an interview with The Verge, the CEO of Rabbit emphasised that while their product may eventually have the capacity to replace a smartphone in the future, it is not their current intention to do so.

Essentially, the Rabbit R1 functions akin to mobile applications, but it operates independently without the need for a smartphone. Running on the Rabbit OS, it enables users to send messages, make calls, and utilize services such as Spotify and Uber. Furthermore, the Rabbit R1, akin to Siri and Alexa, includes its own virtual assistant, touted by the company as proficient in efficiently handling intricate commands.

The Rabbit R1 is powered by a 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P35 processor, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. With USB-C connectivity, it promises an "all-day" battery life and includes a SIM slot. This compact device relies on continuous internet connectivity for its operation. Sporting a rotating camera for capturing photos and videos, the device features a scroll button for user interaction, allowing users to push it for talking or navigating the device.

Priced at $199 (approximately Rs 16,500), the Rabbit R1 does not require a subscription. Presently, it is exclusively available for purchase in the United States, with no information available regarding its availability for the Indian audience.
