Clark County Public Health confirmed six new COVID-19 cases Wednesday morning, upping the county’s total to 566 confirmed cases.
The number of COVID-19 deaths remains at 25 people, where the death count has stood since May 15. Six people were hospitalized in Clark County Tuesday, according to the latest data available.
Late Tuesday night, Clark County applied for a second time to enter Phase 2 of Washington’s COVID-19 recovery plan. The county first applied May 22, but their application was put on pause by the state Department of Health a day later because of a large outbreak at Firestone Pacific Foods in Vancouver.
Clark County Health Officer Dr. Alan Melnick said Tuesday that the county should receive approval or rejection of its application this week. The Firestone outbreak has not caused major spread to the community, which makes Melnick “optimistic” about the application being approved.
So far, there are 132 confirmed cases linked to Firestone. That’s made up of 79 Firestone employees — 72 who live in Clark County — and 53 close contacts of employees, all living in Clark County.
Close to 330 people connected to Firestone have been tested for coronavirus.
More than 10,641 people have been tested for the virus in Clark County.
Washington has 22,157 confirmed cases and 1,129 deaths. More than 368,000 people have been tested for coronavirus statewide, with 6 percent of tests returning positive.
More than 3,543 people have been hospitalized in Washington.
