Six people were shot and two others stabbed overnight Friday in a second weekend of violence in Rochester.
Police officers were at a call at North Clinton and Kelly streets around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when gunfire erupted nearby. The officers ran toward gunfire and made their way through a large group of people to find two shooting victims at 485 N. Clinton Ave., according to a Lt. Sam Lucyshyn of the Rochester Police Department.
Lucyshyn said multiple officers descended on the scene to secure safe entry for rescue personnel. The victims were then rushed to area hospitals for treatment.
Four additional shooting victims turned up at hospitals in private vehicles.
All six victims suffered what was described as non-life threatening injuries. Police identified the victims as:
- A 28-year-old male city resident
- Another 28-year-old male city resident
- A 33-year-old male city resident
- A 25-year-old male city resident
- A 24-year-old male city resident
- A 30-year-old male city resident
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Meanwhile, two city men were hospitalized and another in custody following a stabbing earlier in the night, Lucyshyn said in another press release

At about 10 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the area of 36 Stratford Park for the report of a stabbing. Another call came in for two males, with apparent stab wounds, at St. Mary’s Care Center.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital.
- Victim 1: A 29-year-old male city resident was in critical condition.
- Victim 2: A 30-year-old male city resident was in stable condition.
Lucyshyn said that during the investigation, a 28-year-old city man was identified as a suspect and was arrested for first-degree assault.
Police released no identities in either of the incidents.
Friday night's spree of violence comes after a spate of shootings last weekend in Rochester.
