LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A bar in Lakewood was one of six establishments across Ohio cited recently for violating orders handed down by state officials to stop the spread of COVID-19.
According to a news release from the Ohio Investigative Unit, Patio Tavern in Lakewood received an administrative citation for “improper conduct – disorderly activity and limitation on hours for sales and on-premises consumption.”
The release states that OIU agents witnessed patrons being served alcohol between 10:30 and 10:50 p.m. When agents went inside to take enforcement action, a patron was still being served alcohol. Agents said they saw a lack of social distancing as there were patrons crowding around the bar area.
In addition to the bar in Lakewood, three locations in Athens, one in Washington Court House and another in Whitehall were cited for violations.
“We see that most of the permit premises are following the precautions put in place to make their establishments safe and they are complying with the directives,” said OIU Enforcement Commander Eric Wolf. “As agents continue to conduct compliance checks they take enforcement action when egregious violations like these are observed.”
The establishments face a possible fine and/or the suspension of its liquor permits, according to the news release.
