The Oklahoma Sooners won the turnover battle, intercepting the Iowa State Cyclones three times to seal a 27-21 win and their sixth-consecutive Big 12 Championship on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
Sooners redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler wasn’t perfect, but led an offense that didn’t turn the ball over all day in a 22-34 for 272 yards and a passing touchdown. Rhamondre Stevenson carried the ball 18 times for 97 yards, and wide receiver Marvin Mims was questionable to play before the game, but had seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Cyclones star quarterback Brock Purdy struggled, going 24-40 for 322 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. As a team they ran the ball 31 times for 113 yards, but it was the backbreaking turnovers that made the difference.
The Sooners were the road team based on record, but entered as a six-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. While they lock up a spot in the New Year’s Six with a victory, it will be up to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee to determine if Iowa State makes one of the Big Six bowl games as well. It’s likely they’ll still advance, as they entered as the No. 6 team in the country according to last week’s poll.
