The six-year, $27 million contract will run through the 2025 season and is funded through private athletic gifts. Cristobal’s salary will increase from approximately $2.7 million to $4.3 million in January, and the Ducks coach will earn an average of $4.55 million during the term.

“I am humbled and honored to be part of the best college football program in the country,” Cristobal said in a press release via Oregon Athletics. “The tremendous commitment from the University and our administration to our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff is unmatched and has been unwavering since day one. I am grateful to President Schill and Rob Mullens for all of their support and for entrusting our staff with the future of Oregon Football. We are just getting started, and I am fired up to relentlessly work and build upon the success so far. We are privileged to call Oregon home, and we love the sense of family and community here at Oregon...

We will continue to work tirelessly to elevate the Oregon football program to the next level, and we can’t wait to see the best fans in the nation back in Autzen Stadium next fall. Go Ducks!

- Mario Cristobal

The extension comes less than 24 hours after Cristobal signed what is likely the best class in program history. Cristobal's name was also recently floated around for the head coaching job at Auburn

In only his third season at the helm, Cristobal is 24-9 as Ducks head coach, and is coming off a Pac-12 Championship and Rose Bowl victory in 2019. He was also named “Coach of the Year” by the Associated Press last season. Oregon promoted Cristobal in Dec. 2017 following Willie Taggert’s departure for Florida State.

“Mario has been a tremendous leader, and we are excited that he will continue to lead Oregon Football,” Mullens said in a statement. “He has built a strong culture and foundation within our program in a very short period of time and I am confident we will continue to build upon the success we have experienced so far and reach even greater heights. We look forward to the future of Oregon Football under Mario’s continued leadership.

This Friday, Cristobal will have the opportunity to elevate the Oregon football program to a higher level. The Ducks will represent the Pac-12 North in the Pac-12 Championship Game vs. No. 13 USC for an opportunity to repeat as champions. The game kicks off at 5:00 p.m. PT.
