depolitikblog.blogspot.com

The Eagles captured their six straight win after a 57-40 Camden Conference victory over Central Minnesota Christian on Friday from Central Minnesota Christian School.

LQPV vaulted to the top of the conference’s North Division standings with a 6-1 Camden record.

The road team took out the Bluejays with its defense. Doubling up CMCS 34-17 in the second half, LQPV held the home team to 31% shooting from the field.

Taylor Shelstad was the Eagles’ defensive standout. Primarily covering one of the top scorers in the state, Shelstad held Bluejays junior Coco Duininck to six points on 2 of 7 shooting from the floor. Duininck also committed 10 turnovers, much of which the result of Shelstad’s pressure.

“It was a team effort,” LQPV head coach Dylan Erickson said. “Taylor Shelstad worked her tail off on defense. She contested every shot and made (Duininck) work to get open. ... Shelstad was excellent, but it was a team effort.”

The Eagles held CMCS 17 points under its season scoring average.

The visitors led 13-10 in the first half when sophomore Camryn Lee scored inside following a pocket pass from senior Alex Stitt. LQPV came up empty on its next seven possessions (four turnovers, three missed field goals).

During the Eagles' drought, Molly Mulder took over.
After tying the game at 13-all with a free throw, the junior forward put CMCS up with a three-point on play. From there, the Bluejays were out of sync offensively and came up empty on their next eight possessions (five turnovers, three missed field goals).

The two teams entered halftime tied at 23-all. Shelstad had 16 of her team's 23 first-half points. She also scored the team’s last 10 points of the half. The sophomore finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Macie Lund added 14 points and eight rebounds.
