OAKLAND — Six men were wounded in a shooting early Saturday in the Old Oakland district just a few blocks from police headquarters, authorities said.
The men, who are in their 20s and 30s, were in stable condition and are expected to recover, authorities said..
Authorities said the shooting, which involved dozens of rounds being fired by at least two people and prompted several ShotSpotter alerts, happened about 1:05 a.m. outside in the 900 and 1000 blocks of Washington Street.
A large number of people were in the area, which features some nightclubs, when something happened that prompted the shooting, authorities said.
Police were trying to determine a motive for the shooting and if the men wounded were the intended targets.
Police said the victims were being uncooperative.
Detailed descriptions of the shooters were not released and no arrests have been announced.
It was not immediately known if the men wounded all knew each other.
One of the men wounded was transported from the scene to a hospital. The other five got their own transportation to a hospital.
Two businesses and at least three parked vehicles were also hit by the gunfire but no other injuries were reported.
Streets in the area were shut down for several hours while police gathered evidence and looked for witnesses and video surveillance.

One was the fatal shooting in March 2019 of a 42-year-old San Francisco man in a parking lot in the 800 block of Washington Street. A suspect was arrested in that shooting. In November 2018 five men, including three security guards for one of the clubs, were shot outside in the 800 block of Washington Street. All five recovered and a suspect was arrested.
