ALAMEDA — A man accompanied by a dog is being sought as a person of interest in six arson fires Monday night and Tuesday morning, including one that destroyed a vehicle and another that badly damaged a city facility, authorities said.

The fires were within an apprpxomiately two-mile area and were set between 10:29 p.m. Monday and 7:31 a.m. Tuesday.

The city facility, a single-story structure with a classroom and bathrooms and storage areas in Littlejohn Park in the 1400 block of Pacific Ave., was set on fire at about 11:16 p.m. Monday. Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the building before eventually containing the blaze.

A shed several feet from the classroom structure was damaged by fire about 7:31 a.m. Tuesday.

A vehicle was destroyed in a fire about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday in the  600 block of Lincoln Avenue.

And what fire officials described as  “outside fires” were set about 10:29 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of Grand Street, at 12:54 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Central Avenue and at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

Authorities have not said what they believe was used to set the fires.

The person of interest is described as White, in his late 20s to late 30s, with light-colored, ear-length hair and stubble-like facial hair.  He was last seen with a medium-size dark-colored dog and a bicycle that he may have been using to get to the different sites, authorities said.

Authorities are requesting residents and businesses in the areas of the fires to review their security cameras during the time frames of the fires and contact  police property crimes Sgt. Dole and 510-337-8379 with any information that may assist in the investigation.
