Heirloom Executive Chef Matt Kern is the Chef at Market for this Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m.
Kern is sourcing the best seasonal, local ingredients for Heirloom’s menus, and he will be preparing a summer menu using his hand-picked selection of foods from the market. He has received two nominations for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award. Look for the HLFM demo tents in the market.
This Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be the first early local corn, peaches, blueberries, cherry tomatoes and slicer tomatoes, shishito, poblano, and other peppers, strawberries, sugar snap peas, chards, arugula, broccoli, lettuces, kale, mushrooms, micro greens, eggs, tilapia fish, crabs, oysters, beef, pork, chicken, honey, jams, beautiful fresh-baked breads, kombucha, pastries made with fruit from the growers at the market, hemp products, large flower bouquets, fresh-cut herbs, plants, and so much more.
The Saturday market takes place at George H.P. Smith Park, at the corner of Dupont and Johnson avenues. However, in case of inclement weather, the market moves to Shields Elementary School parking lot, Sussex Drive and Savannah Road. If the market has to move to Shields, the demo will be rescheduled.
The HLFM’s Wednesday market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is now open from 8 to 11 a.m. with 11 farmers/producers: 302 Aquaponics, Baywater Farms, Bennett Orchards, Bodine Farms, Dittmar Family Farms, Hattie’s Garden, Jackie Blues, Kalmar Farm, Mandala Pies, Stag Run Farm, and Totem Farms.
The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the market. WIC and SFMNP coupons will also be accepted at the market in mid-June.
The HLFM also continues its partnership with the Epworth United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the market to donate to the Epworth program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to Epworth. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
