The Masked Singer scored the narrowest of victories over Survivor among adults 18-49 in Wednesday’s ratings, though the latter drew substantially more total viewers. NBC’s trio of Dick Wolf-produced Chicago dramas drew the three biggest total audiences in primetime, and ABC’s comedies all declined some in their second week.
Fox’s The Masked Singer earned a 1.01 rating among adults 18-49, edging the 1.0 for Survivor — which equates to a difference of about 11,000 viewers in the key ad demographic. In total viewers, the two unscripted shows switched spots, with Survivor averaging 5.9 million on CBS to 4.55 million for The Masked Singer.
The season finale of Big Brother finished third in primetime among adults 18-49 with a 0.94 and averaged 3.57 million viewers for CBS. Fox got a 0.47 in the demo and 2.46 million viewers from Alter Ego, down from 0.65 and 2.93 million for its premiere last week.

Chicago Fire was Wednesday’s top scripted show by a wide margin, leading all of primetime in total viewers (7.36 million, up about 80,000 vs. last week) and posting a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demo. Chicago Med (6.71 million, 0.74) and Chicago PD (6.22 million, 0.76) finished second and third in total viewers for the night.
ABC’s comedy block slipped by a collective 9 percent in viewers (3.14 million to 2.87 million) to and 21 percent in adults 18-49 (0.61 to 0.48). The Goldbergs (3.17 million, 0.55), The Wonder Years (2.69 million, 0.5), The Conners (3.47 million, 0.51) and Home Economics (2.14 million, 0.36) all came down from last week’s debuts. A Million Little Things was about even in viewers (2.05 million vs. 2.09 million last week) and ticked up by a couple hundredths of a point to 0.31 among adults 18-49.
On cable, Fox News’ The Five was once again the most watched show of the day with 3.43 million viewers. TNT’s AEW: Dynamite led the 18-49 demo with a 0.45, and FX’s American Horror Story was the top scripted show with 687,000 viewers and a 0.26 in the key demo.

Big Brother wrapped up its 23rd Season with a history-making moment. The CBS competition series crowed its first Black winner as Wisconsin attorney Xavier Prather walked away victorious. Per fast nationals, Big Brother‘s two-hour Season 23 finale earned a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.47M, placing it in a three-way ratings tie with The Masked Singer (0.9, 4.28M) and Survivor (0.9, 5.69M) in the previous hour, which both dipped slightly from last Thursday.
Despite the show’s historical moment, the Season 23 finale slipped one tenth in demo rating and approximately 13% in viewership from its season opener in July (1.0, 4.01M). Wednesday’s show was also down from the Season 22 finale.
Taking in the most viewers of Wednesday primetime was the latest episode of Chicago Fire on NBC (0.8, 7.08M). The 9 p.m. drama gave NBC enough of a pop in the second primetime hour for 10 o’clock’s Chicago P.D. (0.7, 6.06M) to remain somewhat close behind Chicago Med (0.7, 6.46M)earlier in the evening. Week two in to the new seasons and NBC’s Chicago trio seems pretty stable from their premieres.
As was the case last week, Fox’s newbie Alter Ego couldn’t carry over the same enthusiasm for The Masked Singer, dropping four tenths in demo and slipping by nearly two million viewers from its lead-in.
Over at ABC, primetime remained steady with The Goldbergs, The Wonder Years and The Conners all earning a 0.5 demo rating. Of the half-hour family programs, The Conners was the most-watched, bringing in 3.35 million viewers. The night fizzled out with the latest installment of A Million Little Things (0.3, 2.01M), which kept steady from its Season 4 premiere.
At the CW, In the Dark saw a bit of a bump, rising two tenths and nearly 68% in viewers from last week.

The Good Life is releasing on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on October 15th, 2021. Anyone interested in pre-ordering can do so on both on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
While you’re here, be sure to check out all the other news we’ve got for the game, including a teaser trailer that reveals playable cats, dogs, and a colorful cast, and much more.
Nintendo Switch will lose a fantastic third-party exclusive in 2022. Capcom is porting Monster Hunter Rise, a critically acclaimed action game that sold over 7 million copies on Switch alone, to PC. While Capcom had briefly confirmed this port previously, Capcom revealed many new details about it at Tokyo Game Show 2021.
We now know the game's release date, how its content compares to the Switch version, and how players can try it early via a demo. But what about cross saves and the future roadmap for the game? Here’s all that and more.
When is the Monster Hunter Rise PC release date?
During Tokyo Game Show 2021, Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise for PC will be released on January 12, 2022. You will be able to try the game before launch via a demo, though. The port is only confirmed for Steam at this time.
Is there a Monster Hunter Rise PC trailer?
Yes, there is! A trailer for the PC port was shown off during Capcom’s Monster Hunter Spotlight at Tokyo Game Show 2021. Check it out below:
That trailer demonstrates all of the port’s major improvements. That includes a 4K resolution, higher resolution textures, an uncapped framerate, keyboard and mouse controls, voice chat, and 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio support. As it struggled to run on Nintendo’s aging hardware, Monster Hunter Rise is getting a glow-up on PC.
When is the Monster Hunter Rise PC demo release date?
If you want to test Monster Hunter Rise out on your PC, you will have an opportunity to do so before the port's January 2021 launch. On October 13, 2021, a demo will be released on Steam. It includes the Training tutorial mode, a Wyvern Riding tutorial, and hunting quests for the Great Izuchi, Mizutsune, and Magnamalo.
The demo will support online multiplayer and include all fourteen weapons types, so you'll get a feeling for whether Monster Hunter Rise is for you or not. The demo seems like it will be available indefinitely, unlike the limited-time Nintendo Switch demo.
Are Monster Hunter Rise PC pre-orders open?
Yes, it’s already available to pre-order on Steam. Monster Hunter Rise will cost $59.99 at launch on PC, and pre-orders will net players a Novice Talisman and Palamute and Palico armor that makes those helpers look like a real dog and cat, respectively.
Players can also spend $70.48 on a Deluxe Edition that comes with unique armor, gesture, pose, and hairstyle DLC. Monster Hunter Stories 2 players will also get a “Rider Series” Hunter layered armor.
What are the Monster Hunter Rise PC minimum and recommended specs?
If you want to take advantage of all of the port's features, you'll need to know the minimum and recommended PC specs for the game. The Steam page lists both. Thankfully, they aren't too intensive, though Capcom notes the specs could change before launch:
MINIMUM:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-4130 or Core™ i5-3470 or AMD FX™-6100
Additional Notes: 1080p/30fps when graphics settings are set to "Average". System requirements subject to change during game development.
Is Monster Hunter Rise PC the same as the Nintendo Switch version?
Monster Hunter Rise is constantly getting updated, so Capcom clarified what content would be in the game's PC version at release.
"At launch, the full version of Monster Hunter Rise on PC will include all major post-launch content that is available in the Nintendo Switch version through the end of November 2021," Capcom explains in a press release. "More information about future content and timing will be available at a later date."
The means we can expect updates like the Ghosts' n Goblins Ressurection crossover to be included in the PC version, though anything that gets added in December and January won't be part of the PC port at release.
Hopefully, Capcom gets the PC and Nintendo Switch update schedules lined up by the time the Sunbreak expansion releases in Summer 2022. Cross-play and cross-progression have not been confirmed yet, so don't expect them.
Will Monster Hunter Rise on PC have cross-save or crossplay?
Now that Monster Hunter Rise is migrating over to PC, one might hope that there will be crossplay allowing PC and Switch gamers to play together — or at the very least cross-save so that Switch players can transfer progress and characters over to PC.
As of the official announcement, Capcom has yet to offer any details about either. It’s possible that neither crossplay nor cross-save will happen, but we’ll update this place as soon as we know either way.
Monster Hunter Rise is available now for Nintendo Switch.
Capcom announced during TGS 2021 today when we can expect Monster Hunter Rise to arrive on PC.
And that date is January 12. While that seems like a long ways off, it's really not because that's just three months away.
Plus, to hold you over until then, Capcom will release a demo for the game on Steam beginning on October 13.
The demo will provide you with numerous hunting options, including offline solo and online multiplayer for up to four players. You will also be able to use 14 weapon types.
You can also expect a Training option and a Wyvern Riding tutorial full of useful tips and instructions. When you feel you are ready, awaiting you will be three different hunting quests and monsters to experience, each providing distinct levels of challenge from Beginner (Great Izuchi) to Intermediate (Mizutsune) and Advanced (Magnamalo).
The PC version will feature customizable optimizations, allowing you to enjoy the game in 4K resolution and with ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio support, while also offering uncapped framerates and high-resolution textures.
When the full version of the game releases on PC, it will include all major post-launch content that is available on the Nintendo Switch version through the end of November 2021.
Following the release, players of both platform versions can look forward to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the rather large expansion coming to the game in summer 2022. You can expect a new storyline and base of operations, as well as new locales, monsters, gameplay features, Master quest rank, and more.
Obviously, you will need to own the base game in order to play it, and you will need to have completed the 7-star Hub Quest called Serpent Goddess of Thunder. All progress from the base game will transfer over to the expansion when played on the same system.
Also today, the identity of the new monster featured in the debut trailer for Sunbreak has been confirmed as Malzeno, zn elder dragon who serves as the expansion’s flagship monster. Also joining the upcoming expansion is Shogun Ceanataur, a returning crab-like monster who first appeared in Monster Hunter 2.
Released for Switch on March 26, Monster Hunter Rise has proven to be rather popular with the Switch crowd, and we expect no less on PC given both player and critical reception.

CLERMONT-FERRAND – French recycling firm Carbios has opened an industrial demonstration plant to showcase the potential of its enzymatic recycling technology, called C-ZYME, at scale.
The company’s proprietary technology can break down PET plastic into its core monomers, and reached a breakthrough in November when it produced virgin-grade plastic bottles from textile waste.
“This is a watershed moment, highlighting how this revolutionary process works on a large scale,” said the CEO of Carbios, Jean-Claude Lumaret.

Brian Laundrie has still not been found. (North Port Police handout)
On the eleventh day since Brian Laundrie went missing, things are heating up between members of the public.
A fight broke out at the Laundrie family’s home in North Port, Florida after a neighbour accused a protester of trespassing on his property, Fox News reported.
The protester had been wielding a megaphone outside of the family’s home along with one other protester for the last few days.
“You can sit here all you want with your megaphone. I don’t care, but you come on my property again, I’m going to f****** beat your a**,” the neighbour yelled at the protester.
“You’re going to jail,” the protester said while filming the encounter. “You just assaulted me on camera.”
The neighbour was arrested later in the evening and charged with battery, according to the North Port Police Department.
Meanwhile, Dog the Bounty Hunter claims he is ‘closing in’ on Mr Laundrie
While the FBI has an arrest warrant for Mr Laundrie over a fraud charge, Chapman launched a parallel search for the 23-year-old who was reported missing by his parents on 17 September.
He said on Wednesday: “We’re here at the island. This would be and could be the perfect spot for him to hide.”
He also said that “boat crews and ground teams have been called in and we have search and rescue dogs deployed.”
He added: “The search now is really on. The search has just begun.”

RPG Life sim The Good Life is out on October 15, but ahead of its release date, developer White Owls—led by director Swery—has launched a new demo on Xbox One available today. The studio will make its next project available on Game Pass on release.
Swery and publisher Playism will make their demo available on Steam for PC this Friday, October 1, too. The Good Life will bring a slice of its adventure to Steam's Next Festival, where you can embark on a new journey as Naomi, a photojournalist from New York who travels to a small British town, Rainy Wood.
The Good Life is a "debt repayment RPG," where your heroine is saddled with a massive sum to repay. You'll take photos and accept strange jobs in Rainy Wood, where a mysterious phenomenon occurs every night in which its citizens transform into cats and dogs. Things grow more complicated as the sleepy town is sent reeling from a murder.
In addition to your job as a journalist, Naomi can also balance the day-to-day through gardening, unlocking new recipes, and collecting new outfits. And you'll join the folks in the "happiest town in the world" as a cat or dog yourself—Naomi isn't immune to the strange shapeshifting. The Good Life also launches on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on its October 15 release date.
The Good Life's development cycle saw a few bumps along the way before settling on its 2021 debut, with a delay accompanying an earlier publisher change in June. The bizarre adventure also got its own edible collaboration earlier this month as The Good Life's Good Rice. If you're looking to pick up a bag of specialty Nagano rice yourself, it's unfortunately only available to fans in Japan.

QUITO, Sept 29 (Reuters) - The death toll from a riot at one of Ecuador's largest prisons rose to 116, President Guillermo Lasso said on Wednesday, adding that he would send additional security forces and free up funds to avoid a repeat.
Another 80 inmates were injured during the Tuesday night clashes at the Penitenciaria del Litoral in Guayas province, which has been the scene of bloody fights between gangs for control of the prison in recent months.
"It is unfortunate that criminal groups are attempting to convert prisons into a battleground for power disputes," Lasso told reporters in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city. "I ask God to bless Ecuador and that we can avoid more loss of human life."
Tuesday's clash was the most deadly act of violence ever reported in Ecuador's penitentiary system. Similar clashes took place in February and July 2021 in various prisons throughout the country. At least 79 people died in the February violence, and in July at least 22 lives were lost.
Dozens of people arrived at the jail to seek information about relatives and demand accountability from officials responsible for the inmates' safety. The government bolstered military presence outside the facility. Lasso said the state would assist the families of dead and injured inmates.
The South American country's prosecutor's office said earlier on Wednesday that six of the slain prisoners at Penitenciaria del Litoral had been decapitated.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has previously condemned the violence, and Human Rights Watch urged Ecuador's government to fully investigate the prison violence and bring those responsible to justice.
Lasso in August said the government would provide more funding for the overcrowded prison system to build new wards and install new equipment to improve security.

Britney Spears was overwhelmed with emotion after learning her father, Jamie Spears, was suspended from her conservatorship after 13 years.
“Britney burst into tears upon hearing the judge’s decision,” a source exclusively told Page Six of the superstar’s reaction. “For the longest time, she had begun to think that she would never see the day that her father’s domineering control over every single aspect of her life would end, but it finally happened.”
The insider added, “She’s in shock and at a loss for words but literally jumping for joy. She hasn’t felt joy like this in 13 years.”
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny conceded that it was in Britney’s “best interest” to suspend Jamie, 69, from the restrictive legal arrangement that he established in 2008, controlling his famous daughter’s personal, medical and financial affairs.
“The current situation is untenable,” she said after hearing arguments from both sides. “It reflects a toxic environment which requires the suspension of James Spears.”
The ruling came after the 39-year-old singer’s attorney Mathew Rosengart petitioned the court to “immediately” suspend Jamie from the role by Wednesday, arguing that the elder Spears’ continued involvement made Britney’s life a living “nightmare.”
While he works to dissolve the conservatorship entirely, Rosengart asked the court to appoint certified public accountant John Zabel as temporary conservator to Britney’s $60 million estate. Despite resistance from Jamie’s legal team, Penny agreed to Zabel’s appointment on Wednesday.
Years before the #FreeBritney movement began, Britney had been fighting to regain control of her life.

During a landmark court testimony on June 23, the Grammy winner described her conservatorship as “abusive.” She later said she wants to see Jamie charged with “conservatorship abuse.”
After the news of Jamie’s suspension broke, Britney’s fiancé, Sam Asghari, took to Instagram to congratulate her fans on the result of their efforts to liberate the pop icon.
“FREE BRITNEY!” the model/actor, 27, wrote on his Story, later adding, “She did this. Her fan base is called the Army for a reason.”

This stylish retro-future strategy game has you diving into real-time tactical battles as an inter-dimensional mercenary. It's quite a looker, with a very chill, retro synth soundtrack to match. Don't let that get you too relaxed though, it looks like these battles may get a bit hectic as you dive deeper. RFM is looking to launch sometime next year, but you'll also be able to take it for a spin in the upcoming Steam Next Fest that kicks off this Friday.
"RFM is a roguelite tactics game where you can play, pause and plan," say developers Bromio." You are Morgan, dimension-diving merc, delving deeper and deeper into a dimension between worlds, at the behest of the factions looking to exploit this new reality."
You can catch some of the fast-paced combat down here in RFM's reveal trailer.
The developers have recently put together a more instructive deep dive video going over some of your skills and how to effectively plan a battle.
RFM has shades of tower defense too. Each battle you'll have to defeat enemies while defending your Stabilizer. If you run out of health or your Stabilizer gets destroyed, it's lights out for Morgan. Based on the image up top there, it looks like you'll sometimes have more than one Stabilizer to worry about protecting.
You've got your own skills, Bromio explain, such as switching places with an enemy or dashing through them to cause damage. You'll also use enemies' abilities against them, like tricking bomb enemies into blowing up their mates on adjacent tiles, for instances.
RFM launches on Steam sometime in 2022. You can try it out this week though when it shows up with a demo you can play during the Steam Next Fest that begins this Friday, October 1st.
Six aldermen who are among the police union’s staunchest City Council supporters urged Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Wednesday to reconsider her vaccine mandate for the city’s 30,885 employees, calling it an “infringement on our constitutional rights.”
Lightfoot has said she won’t move her Oct. 15 deadline for all city employees to get the coronavirus vaccine just because police unions are dead-set against the mandate.
But in a letter to the mayor on Wednesday, a half dozen aldermen who are among the Council’s biggest champions for rank-and-file police officers urged the mayor to reconsider.
The letter was signed by Aldermen Derrick Curtis (18th); Silvana Tabares (23rd); Felix Cardona (31st); Nick Sposato (38th); Anthony Napolitano (41st) and Jim Gardiner (45th).
Napolitano has been both a police officer and a firefighter in Chicago. His Far Northwest Side ward is home to scores of police officers. Sposato is a former firefighter. Tabares and Gardiner also represent wards with heavy numbers of police officers and firefighters. Curtis is a former 18th Ward sanitation superintendent.
Ald. Nick Sposato (38th), shown at a Chicago City Council meeting in July, is among six council members who signed a letter to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, opposing her COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all city employees.Ashlee Rezin/Sun-Times
“We are writing as both vaccinated and unvaccinated aldermen to express our strong opposition to the mandate that forces ‘ALL’ City of Chicago employees to be vaccinated against COVID,” the letter states.
“While we have struggled with the effects that the COVID pandemic has created in all facets of our lives, the fact of the matter remains that this mandate is an infringement on our constitutional rights.”
The aldermen said they would “continue to work tirelessly” to educate their constituents and promote “vaccination events” and distribute masks and hand sanitizers.
But they argued the mandate “does not prevent others from contracting” the coronavirus and “individuals who have chosen to get vaccinated are still susceptible to contracting the virus and transmitting” COVID-19.
“An individual must make their own decision as to whether to vaccinate and accept personal responsibility for their decision,” the wrote.
“We firmly believe that your executive order to mandate the vaccination for `ALL’ city of Chicago employees is an infringement on their personal freedoms. We are strongly opposed to this mandate and are urging you to reconsider your executive order.”
The mayor’s office stood its ground, arguing in a statement that vaccines are “the safest way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that our workplaces are safe.”
“That is why the City is committed to continuing our robust educational and outreach campaigns to encourage all Chicagoans – including City employees – to get vaccinated,” the statement said.
“At this point, nearly all aldermen are fully vaccinated, and although they are considered city employees, they are elected officials who do not report to the Mayor. We continue to work across the City and in collaboration with elected leaders to get their communities vaccinated.”
In a video posted on the union’s Facebook page, Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara said the four police unions held a 40-minute meeting with city negotiators Monday to deliver an eight-page document outlining their position.
“There was no agreement except for the fact that the city will review in detail our proposal. And they’re going to come back with a counter-document that we are going to discuss on Friday morning,” Catanzara said in the video urging his members to “stay tuned” for an update after that meeting.
“I get a lot of people are getting a little anxious here. But have a little patience. We still have well over two weeks. The exemptions and everything are going to still yet be discussed and, hopefully, revised and be much simpler and in line with other things the city does so it’s not so complicated.”
But in an apology video posted on YouTube, Catanzara also tried to explain his offensive comparison.
“When governments, whether it’s Nazi Germany or modern-day Chicago, try to start, or any other major city like New York and many others who are doing this, try to create policies that mandate their employees first to have to do things to their bodies it will not stop there,” he said then.
“You are opening up the door for the citizens to be next.”

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A grand jury in Fayette County, Kentucky, has declined to indict six University of Kentucky football players on first-degree burglary charges.
The charges were brought last month following a police investigation of an incident last March at a private party.
Lexington Police arrested Reuben Adams, Robert McClain, Devito Tisdale, Joel Williams, Earnest Sanders IV and Andru Phillips on Aug. 19. Tisdale was also charged with first-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly pointing a gun at one of the victims.
All six second-year players pleaded not guilty on Aug. 20 and later waived their cases to a state grand jury, which dismissed the charges on Tuesday. The wanton endangerment charge against Tisdale was also dismissed.
Adams tweeted after the decision was announced that he was "glad the truth finally came out" and that he was excited to be back on the field.
The dismissals come a day after Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said he hoped for an update on their cases. Kentucky football spokeswoman Susan Lax confirmed Tuesday the players have been cleared to return to practice after being suspended from team activities while their cases were pending. The players had returned in June after being away 11 weeks while a student conduct hearing was held.
A Lexington Police release stated that three individuals entered a private party uninvited at a residence on March 6 and were asked to leave. They became upset and threatened to return, the release added, and returned a short time later with additional individuals.
The individuals forced their way inside the residence and one suspect was observed pointing a firearm at one of the occupants, the release stated. Court documents state that the players had "a physical altercation with multiple occupants of the residence" that left many of the occupants injured.
Kentucky (4-0, 2-0) hosts No. 10 Florida (3-1, 1-1) in a Southeastern Conference East Division showdown on Saturday night.
The Lexington Herald-Leader first reported the grand jury's decision.
