VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton wrestling program has announced the addition of six newcomers for the 2021-22 season, which includes three true freshmen and three transfers.

"I am excited about the class that we have added for this season," head coach Kyle Borshoff said. "We have a nice mix of freshmen and transfers coming into the program to add to an already strong lineup."

Nick Lombard enters as a transfer from the University of Michigan. The Monroe, N.J. native won all three of his matches a season ago, and looks to compete with the rest of the middleweights. A Big 10 All-Academic team member, Lombard also posted an impressive 120-17 high school record before arriving in Michigan.

"(Nick) Lombard brings in his experience from spending four years in Ann Arbor, and I expect him to take a leadership role in the program right away and fight for a starting spot at 149 pounds," Borshoff said.

Ryan Anderson is another transfer for BU, and comes in following a stellar campaign at Division lll Centenary. He was a two-time Pennsylvania AAA high school state champion at Bethlehem Catholic. Also an IronMan Champion, as well as a Beast of the East Champion, he posted a 130-11 high school record. In addition to that, he also won the prestigious Super 32 tournament. Most recently, Anderson won Division lll Freshman of the Year and was the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 145 pounds.

"Ryan was one of the top high school recruits in the country a couple of seasons ago," Borshoff said. "He was the No. 1 seed at the Division lll nationals before they were canceled two years ago. I expect big things out of Ryan right out of the gates this season."

Christian Gannone is a transfer from Bloomsburg University. The junior was a true freshman starter, and a MAC Conference tournament placer. The Manorville, N.Y. native was a Section XI champion, New York State Placer, and posted a 156-29 career record at Eastport-South Manor High School.

Nate Lucier, Logan Gumble and Nick Curley all join the team as true freshmen for the 2021-22 season.

Lucier was a two-time Pennsylvania state placer finishing 6th as a junior, and 4th as a senior at Coatesville High School. He also took home fifth place at the Super 32 tournament. The Coatesville, Pa. native was also a National Honor Society member. He projects as a 141 or 149-pounder for the Bearcats.

Gumble, a 2019 State placer, comes from nearby Chenango Forks. Most recently, Gumble was a 2021 New York State Freestyle and Greco Champion and a Central Regional Greco Champion this past summer. His uncle, Mark Gumble, was a National Champion in 1987 and a three-time All-American for Binghamton.

Curley, a 125-pounder from Burlington, Ma. enjoyed a strong high school career prior to his arrival in Vestal. In 2021, Curley was an NHSCA National Champion and a New England Champion. He also took fourth at the New England Championships as a junior.

"I also expect Nate, Nick, and Logan to be fighting for starting spots in the lineup and to be contributors this season," Borshoff said.

The Bearcats open the season on November 6 at a quad meet with Rutgers, Cleveland State, and New Jersey City University.
