Puppet Horror My Friendly Neighborhood Gets Terrifying Free Demo - Screen Rant

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

A free demo of the upcoming puppet-themed horror game My Friendly Neighborhood is available for a very limited time. The new horror game from developers John and Evan Szymanski was first announced during last year’s Realms Deep 2021 event. The game bears some resemblance to the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. However, My Friendly Neighborhood takes a different direction with its gameplay that sets it apart.

In My Friendly Neighborhood, players take the role of a repairman named Gordon who is tasked with repairing the antenna atop the studio building where a canceled Sesame Street-like children’s TV show called The Friendly Neighborhood was made. The city believes the antenna is behind the sudden broadcast of old The Friendly Neighborhood episodes years after its cancellation, but Gordon finds out there’s more to it than that as the puppets have come to life. My Friendly Neighborhood is a non-linear, survival FPS title that features unique weapons, puzzle-solving, a grid-based inventory system, and more. These elements make the gameplay of My Friendly Neighborhood closer to Resident Evil than Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The free demo of My Friendly Neighborhood is now available on Steam as part of the Steam Next Fest: February 2022 Edition and is only available until February 28, 2022. Big streamers and content creators like jacksepticeye are already enjoying My Friendly Neighborhood’s demo. According to publisher DreadXP, the demo lets players experience one of the game’s stages that involves Gordon searching for an elevator somewhere in the studio’s basement after receiving “friendly” advice from a puppet named Ricky the Sock. Players will have to explore the basement while managing their limited resources, taping down unfriendly puppets, and being mindful of another puppet called Ray as they try to make their escape.

My Friendly Neighborhood isn’t the only current horror game that’s obviously taken some inspiration from Five Nights at Freddy’s. Released in October 2021, Poppy Playtime borrows from Five Nights at Freddy’s in several ways, including its use of toys or puppets coming to life, recorded audio via VHS tapes, and even vent chases and jumpscares. On the other hand, My Friendly Neighborhood has taken its gameplay in an almost completely different direction, helping it stand out from its peers.

My Friendly Neighborhood offers an interesting take on the horror and survival game genres, combining elements from more comedic titles like Five Nights at Freddy’s with those from more serious ones like Resident Evil. The new demo will give fans of horror and survival games the chance to see how well that combination works ahead of its release later this year. If they miss the window to download the demo, players can still preview the game by watching streamers and content creators instead.

My Friendly Neighborhood is scheduled for release later this year on PC via Steam and Itch.io.
