In the main event, Rhodes defeated Finn Balor, thanks to assists from Edge and Beth Phoenix to help neutralize The Judgment Day.

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

A few weeks before its release date,a demo for Theatrhythm Final Bar Line will be coming out on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

First off, let’s start with when the demo will come out. The demo comes out on January 31, 2023, at 9:00 PM PST. It will be available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The demo is free to download and try out. Not only that, but if you decide to buy the game, your progress from the demo will carry over. This lets you see if you’ll like the game before committing to buy it.

AEW Dynamite Viewership Increases On 1/25, Demo Also Rises

AEW Dynamite viewership saw an increase on January 25, which was headlined by a Jay Briscoe tribute match between Mark Briscoe and Jay Lethal.

According to Showbuzz Daily, 1,003,000 viewers watched the show on Wednesday night, and it drew a 0.32 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. The viewership was up from the January 18 episode, when 969,000 viewers tuned in. The demo also rose from last week‘s episode, which drew a 0.31 rating in the same demographic.

With the increase in viewership, Dynamite took the third spot in the demographic among cable originals overall Wednesday night. On cable, they were only defeated by ESPN’s coverage of NBA basketball, according to Showbuzz Daily.

This week’s show kicked off with Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara defeating Ricky Starks and Action Andretti in tag team action. The main event saw Mark Briscoe defeat Jay Lethal in a match to honor Mark’s brother, Jay Briscoe. The show ended with the roster on the stage embracing Mark as AEW Dynamite went off the air.

Forspoken's demo is now available on PC - Rock Paper Shotgun

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

It seemed a shame, given Forspoken's somewhat unusual system requirements, that its demo remained unavailable on PC. Well, that's no longer the case. As of today, you can now give Square Enix's Cuff-ing season action-adventure a whiz before you decide whether you want to pay £65/$70 for it.

You can grab the demo from Steam or from Epic. It requires 42GB of disk space.

Forspoken has had mixed reviews this week, with critics lampooning its snarky dialogue, lamenting its empty open world, and la-criticising its story for only becoming engaging near its end. It has also become a big ol' social media dunk célèbre, leading to 'Mixed' Steam reviews even though most of the negative opinions are coming from people with 20 minutes of playtime.

Our own review is delayed because we didn't receive code, with Square Enix citing a day one patch as a reason for withholding PC copies. Alice B is playing it now - and the demo actually made her "surprisingly pumped for it". She event went as far as to say it seemed alright - or "aaaaallright".

It already seems inevitable that there will be stories two weeks from now about how Forspoken failed to meet Square Enix's sales expectations, but I do hope this turns out to be an enduring, unusual 7/10 that some people can base their personality around advocating for. That's the best kind of game! I'm not even joking.

Forspoken PC demo dropping today on Steam and Epic Games Store - Destructoid

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Gentlemen, start your graphics cards…

Today sees the launch of Square Enix’ spellbound epic Forspoken, which is available to purchase now on PS5 and PC platforms — In addition, a new blog post by developer Luminous Productions has announced that a PC demo will launch later today on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.

The Forspoken demo will give PC users the opportunity to check out Forspoken‘s effect-laden magic adventure for themselves, allowing those on the fence from a technical standpoint to see whether their rig matches up to the game’s meaty visuals. Having played the title on PS5, I initially struggled to see why the PC specifications seemed so lofty. Upon reaching several of the game’s boss encounters, (particularly the impressive “Tanta” battles), it became quite clear that Forspoken would be pretty greedy on the ol’ GFX. I don’t think my Radeon x700 is going to get the job done.

Forspoken follows the story of Frey Holland, a troubled street kid who finds herself plucked from the streets of Hell’s Kitchen and deposited in Athia, a fantasy world under siege from a smothering corruption known as “The Break”. Bound with a sentient vanbrace dubbed “Cuff”. This original odd cuffle ventures through Athia’s huge open world, hoping to challenge its founders, restore the land, and get our girl back home to her beloved moggie, Homer.

Forspoken launches today on PS5 and PC. You can check out our review for the new title right here.

The next SteamWorld game is a citybuilder, and there's a demo out right now - Rock Paper Shotgun

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Thunderful have just unveiled the next game in their excellent SteamWorld series, and it's not the one we thought it was going to be. Third person action co-op adventure SteamWorld Headhunter was initially teased in November 2021, but Thunderful used their SteamWorld Telegraph: Special Broadcast this evening to talk about a very different kind of new SteamWorld game - and it looks rad as heck. It's a citybuilder, and (appropriately) it's called SteamWorld Build. I've played a bit of it already, and you can read more of my thoughts about it right here. Spoiler alert: it's a little bit good. If you just want the facts of what was announced, though, read on below.

Coming later this year in 2023 and developed by Thunderful studio The Station, SteamWorld Build is an intriguing twist on the classic SteamWorld Dig games. In Dig 1 and 2, for example, you played a robot who dug deep into the earth to find exciting treasures and old tech so you could return to the surface, upgrade your tools and dig further into the bedrock. The town above would often grow and develop in your absence, with new bots and shops rolling in as time went on, but it was more of a nice reward rather than anything you had direct control over. Well, in SteamWorld Build, you now get the best of both worlds, as you can now manage your growing robo-town above, while also issuing orders for your worker drones to dig for treasure below.

Thunderful describe it as Anno meets Dungeon Keeper, but there's also a hint of tower defence thrown into the mix as well, as you'll need to deal with lots of metal-chomping creatures lurking beneath the surface. You'll need to dig deep, too, as your ultimate goal is to find various different rocket parts so you can escape your ruined planet and head to the stars. Until then, though, you'll be building homes for your workers, cactus farms and service shops to keep them cool and oiled up, warehouses to store your goods, workshops to drill out tough minerals and much more.

It's very moreish, but don't just take my word for it. You can try a slice of SteamWorld Build for yourself right this very second if all that sounds like it's up your management game alley, as there's a demo that's just gone live on SteamWorld Build's Steam page to coincide with Valve's Base Builder Fest.

Plus, if you want to catch up on all the other games in Thunderful's SteamWorld series, there's also a SteamWorld sale on right now as well. My personal favs have always been Dig 2 and SteamWorld Heist if you're looking for absolute must-plays, but they're all top-tier adventures in their own right.

As for Headhunter and those other SteamWorld games we sort of but don't really know much about yet, we'll likely hear more about those later in the year, as SteamWorld Universe and franchise director Brjánn Sigurgeirsson said they'll be doing more of these SteamWorld Telegraph streams to chat all things SteamWorld at various points throughout 2023.

Until then, though, I'd strongly recommmend giving the SteamWorld Build demo a go yourself - available on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store - and then come and chat about it over here in my early in-depth impressions.

SteamWorld Build Announced For 2023 Release, Demo Available Now - GameSpot

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

The next game in the SteamWorld series is another radical departure from what came before: a frontier city-builder-called SteamWorld Build. You'll make a bustling wild west city above ground, while mining and dealing with monsters who lurk just below the surface. SteamWorld Build is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch in 2023, and a demo is available on Steam now.

As the mastermind of a SteamWorld mining town, you'll create housing and provide food for your citizens and make sure they stay entertained. Meanwhile, you'll need to venture underground to explore an old abandoned mine, in search of ancient technology that could save your fledgling community from certain doom. Gather ores and other resources from below ground, and use them to build up your town on the surface--with the ultimate goal of getting off-planet entirely.

Publisher Thunderful notes that the game was built on PC and consoles simultaneously to make sure that it all works as well with a mouse and keyboard as it does with a controller. You can also pick from three difficulty levels to make it inviting to sim-builder newbies as well as veterans.

Thunderful announced the game as part of its first SteamWorld Telegraph presentation. SteamWorld franchise director Brjánn Sigurgeirsson said another Telegraph presentation will be coming later this year with more SteamWorld news on at least some of the other three SteamWorld games that are currently in development. Sigurgeirsson is overseeing the production of SteamWorld Build, and the game is coming from The Station, a Thunderful-owned studio that has previously produced art and assets for various LittleBigPlanet games.

"Having the opportunity to work on an award-winning franchise that's loved by fans was a real honor for us," said The Station producer Adam Vassee. "We've put a lot of effort into making sure the game retains the charming character of previous entries, but we're also lucky in that the SteamWorld series is all about trying new things. That's been liberating in allowing us to put our own twist on SteamWorld and the city builder genre to craft an intuitive Anno meets Dungeon Keeper style system that we think is unlike anything else out there."

In addition to the demo on Steam, the publisher is holding a SteamWorld sale on Steam so you can catch up with past games. The SteamWorld series is known for being eclectic, from action-platformers to strategy to a full-fledged RPG called SteamWorld Quest. SteamWorld Dig is the most celebrated of the series, and the only one to receive a sequel, SteamWorld Dig 2, in 2017.

Anti-Islam demo in Sweden raises heat over Nato bid - DAWN.com

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
Ankara: Protesters chant slogans against Swedish politician Rasmus Paludan during a demonstration outside Sweden’s embassy on Saturday.—AFP

ISTANBUL: Turkiye on Saturday cancelled a visit by the Swedish defence minister over a demonstration by an anti-Islamic extremist in Stockholm, sparking a fresh crisis over Ankara’s blocking of Sweden’s bid to join the Nato military alliance.

Turkish officials denounced the permission granted to Rasmus Paludan, a right-wing Swedish-Danish politician, to stage a protest in front of its embassy in the Swedish capital.

After a diatribe of almost an hour in which he attacked Islam and immigration in Sweden, Paludan set fire to the Holy Quran with a lighter. “If you don’t think there should be freedom of expression, you have to live somewhere else,” he told the crowd.

A day after summoning the Swedish ambassador over Paludan’s latest demo, Ankara said it had called off the visit by Defence Minister Pal Jonson for Jan 27, aimed at overcoming Turkiye’s objections to Sweden’s Nato bid. The meeting “has lost its significance and meaning, so we cancelled,” Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said.

Pakistan condemns abhorrent act of desecration of the Holy Quran

Joint decision

Jonson said the decision to postpone the visit was made jointly with Akar on Friday at the US military base in Ramstein, Germany, where Ukraine’s allies were meeting to discuss further weapon supplies for Kyiv.

“Our relations with Turkiye are very important to Sweden, and we look forward to continuing the dialogue on common security and defence issues at a later date,” Jonson tweeted. Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom also blasted Paludan’s protest.

“Islamophobic provocations are appalling,” he said. “Sweden has a far-reaching freedom of expression, but it does not imply that the Swedish government, or myself, support the opinions expressed.” Paludan’s protest was held under heavy police protection with around 100 people — including a large number of reporters — gathered near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu vented fury at Swedish authorities’ failure to ban the protest. “It’s a racist action, it’s not about freedom of expression,” he said.

A small pro-Turkey demonstration also took place, on the other side of the embassy, while a pro-Kurdish rally called by the Rojava Committee of Sweden and others also took place in Stockholm, drawing several hundred people.

Swedish police gave their authorisation for the anti-Islam demo after determining it fell under the country’s liberal freedom of speech laws. But Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said allowing the protest was “encouraging hate crimes and Islamophobia”.

“The attack on sacred values is not freedom but modern barbarism,” he tweeted on Saturday. Devlet Bahceli, head of the nationalist MHP party that is the junior partner in President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s governing coalition, vowed that “Sweden’s Nato membership will not be approved by the parliament”.

FO statement

Pakistan also strongly condemned the abhorrent act of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden on Saturday.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office said this ‘senseless and provocative Islamophobic act’ hurts the religious sensitivities of over 1.5 billion Muslims across the world.

Such actions are not covered under any legitimate expression of the right to freedom of expression or opinion, which carries responsibilities under international human rights law, such as the obligation not to carry out hate speech and incite people to violence, the statement said.

Google plans to demo AI chatbot search as it panics about ChatGPT - The Verge

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
/

The New York Times reports Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have discussed its response to ChatGPT, with plans to launch over 20 AI products this year, including a demo of its own search chatbot.

Image of the Google “G” logo on a blue, black, and purple background.
Illustration: The Verge

The recent launch of OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT has raised alarms within Google, according to reports from The New York Times. Now, the Times says Google has plans to “demonstrate a version of its search engine with chatbot features this year” and unveil more than 20 projects powered by artificial intelligence.

As recently as December, we’d heard Google execs were worried that despite investing heavily in AI technology, moving too fast to roll it out could harm the company’s reputation. But things are changing quickly. Earlier this morning, Google announced it’s laying off more than 12,000 employees and focusing on AI as a domain of primary importance.

There’s no specific timeframe mentioned for the launch of Google’s AI search demo, but other projects from the slide presentation viewed by the Times are apparently set to debut during its annual I/O event in May, which has previously launched features like Duplex and Google Glass.

The situation is serious enough that the Times also reports that Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin — who remain the controlling shareholders of Google’s parent company Alphabet — have “offered advice” to company leaders, approved plans, and pitched ideas while meeting with executives to talk about ChatGPT last month. It notes that this level of reengagement, a shift after they left their daily roles in 2019, came at the invitation of Google / Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

The demo for the chatbot search says Google will prioritize “getting facts right, ensuring safety and getting rid of misinformation,” hoping to address the issue of AI responding to queries confidently and clearly with bad information. Meanwhile, it’s also working on ways to speed up review processes that are supposed to check the technology to see if it’s operating in ways that are fair and ethical.

New product launches mentioned in the report, presented by a panel of execs including Jeff Dean, who runs its research and AI department, include an image generation studio that “creates and edits images,” an app for testing product prototypes, and a set of tools that other businesses can use to create AI prototypes from within a browser window called MakerSuite. The company is also working on a code generation tool called PaLM-Coder 2 that’s similar to Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot software and another that helps build apps for smartphones named Colab + Android Studio.

In recent years, Google has trodden carefully when it comes to the release of new AI products. The company found itself at the center of a debate over the ethics of artificial intelligence after firing two prominent researchers in the field, Timnit Gebru and Margaret Mitchell. The pair laid out criticisms of AI language models, noting challenges like their propensity to amplify biases in their training data and present false information as fact.

Although Google’s AI research is thought to be as advanced as that of other prominent tech companies, it’s only tested software with particularly restrictive guardrails. The firm’s AI Test Kitchen app, for example, offers access to image and text generation tools similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E and ChatGPT. However, Google heavily restricts the requests users can make of these systems. The company already showed off some of its own chat-heavy AI products, including a nonpublic demo in 2021 of a system similar to ChatGPT.

With the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, though, and alarmist warnings about Google’s impending demise, it seems the company is revising its tactics. In the past, Google has said it’s avoided launching certain AI products because of the potential “reputational damage.” Now, it seems the reputation it wants to avoid is one of being behind the times.

Cozy city-builder Gourdlets gets a new trailer, demo - Destructoid

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Little vegetable people living their little vegetable lives

I am always on the hunt for a new cozy simulation game, because playing a relaxing city/life/community sim is one of my favorite ways to wind down after a long day. One upcoming title I’ve had my eye on is Gourdlets, a city-building simulator that has “no objectives, no points, just building.” Say no more — I know for a fact that this title is going to be right up my alley, especially with its pastel color palette and adorable vegetable villagers.

Based on a new trailer that publisher AuntyGames posted, will be able to decorate their towns with all kinds of cute buildings, trees, flowers, crops, fences, and paths. Your villagers will also be able to take part in cozy activities like roasting marshmallows, building sand castles, and the simulator staple: fishing. You’ll be able to “Watch the population of gourdlets grow and interact with the town as you create it,” according to the game’s Steam page, and chill out as you “watch the little gourdlets live their little lives.”

I’m excited to see a new entry in the cozy simulator genre that’s more of an open-ended, sandboxy thing as opposed to a game with a more rigid quest structure. I’ve been having a blast with Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, but I know after binging dozens of hours of a game that requires a good deal of grinding for materials, a more relaxed experience will be a welcome respite. Gourdlets‘ gameplay and art style also remind me of another excellent city-builder called Townscaper, which shares in its bright colors and laid-back tone.

Gourdlets doesn’t have a release window yet, but the extended demo is available to download on Steam right now!

Boston Dynamics’ latest Atlas video demos a robot that can run, jump and now grab and throw - TechCrunch

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Boston Dynamics just released the latest demo of its humanoid robot, Atlas. The robot could already run and jump over complex terrain thanks to its feet. Now, the robot has hands, per se. These rudimentary grippers give the robot new life. Suddenly, instead of being an agile pack mule, the Atlas becomes something closer to a human, with the ability to pick up and drop off anything it can grab independently.

The claw-like gripper consists of one fixed finger and one moving finger. Boston Dynamics says the grippers were designed for heavy lifting tasks and were first demonstrated in a Super Bowl commercial where Atlas held a keg over its head.

The videos released today show the grippers picking up construction lumber and a nylon tool bag. Next, the Atlas picks up a 2×8 and places it between two boxes to form a bridge. The Atlas then picks up a bag of tools and dashes over the bridge and through construction scaffolding. But the tool bag needs to go to the second level of the structure — something Atlas apparently realized and quickly throws the bag a considerable distance. Boston Dynamics describes this final maneuver: “Atlas’ concluding move, an inverted 540-degree, multi-axis flip, adds asymmetry to the robot’s movement, making it a much more difficult skill than previously performed parkour.”

Boston Dynamic’s Atlas is a research platform, and not available for purchase. It’s long been the star of many viral videos, and has effectively demonstrated Boston Dynamic’s robotic capabilities. In the small world of humanoid robotics, few competitors have shown similar capabilities of the Atlas. Only NASA’s Robonaut offers similar hand-like grippers.

Check out this clever voice assistant demo hacked together with GPT-3 and Siri - The Verge

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
/

With this proof-of-concept, a developer shows how GPT-3 can be used to respond to queries and control HomeKit devices via Siri.

A developer has put together a GPT-3 demo that attempts to enhance Apple’s Siri voice assistant and allow far more conversational voice commands. In a video posted to Reddit, developer Mate Marschalko shows the assistant controlling his HomeKit smart home devices and responding to queries in response to relatively vague prompts that today’s voice assistants like Siri would typically struggle to understand.

For example, the AI is shown turning on Marschalko’s lights in response to the voice prompt “Just noticed that I’m recording this video in the dark in the office, can you do something about that?” Later on in the video Marschalko asks the assistant to set his bedroom to a temperature that would “help me sleep better,” and it responds by setting his bedroom thermostat to 19 degrees celsius.

In an accompanying blog post, Marschalko explains how the demo works. Essentially, he’s using Apple’s Shortcuts app to interface between Siri, GPT-3, and his HomeKit-enabled smart home devices. A voice command to Siri causes Shortcuts to send a lengthy prompt to the AI service requesting a response in a machine-readable format. Once it gets a response, Shortcuts parses it to control smart home devices and/or respond via Siri. The blog post is worth reading in its entirely for a fuller explanation.

It’s an intriguing demo, and shows what voice assistants could be capable of by integrating this new generation of AI technology, but it’s not perfect. For starters, Marschalko says that each command costs $0.014 per API request sent to GPT-3. The video is also edited, so it’s unclear if the demo works 100 percent of the time or if responses are being shown selectively. A more intelligent backend also won’t do anything to help if the voice recognition software can’t understand what words a user is saying in the first place.

The demo raises larger questions about how we want voice assistants to work. Do you really want to have a conversation with a voice assistant, or do you just want to be able to bark short and simple commands to control it like a robot? Marschalko himself also raises the risk of the assistant saying “unexpected things” in a follow up Reddit comment:

Nevertheless, the demo still offers fascinating hints of what sort of voice assistant interactions might soon be possible if the likes of Apple, Amazon, and Google integrate this technology into their services. And it’s impressive that these tools are open and approachable enough that a relatively slick demo like this can be hacked together using widely available consumer software.

Forspoken's PS5 demo has been updated, PC features and requirements detailed | VGC - Video Games Chronicle

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Square Enix has updated Forspoken’s PlayStation 5 demo and revealed fresh details about the PC version of the game ahead of next week’s release.

During a livestream on Tuesday, Forspoken creative producer Raio Mitsuno said the company was rolling out an improved version of the game’s PS5 demo, which was released in early December.

“Today we will be releasing an update to the Forspoken demo,” he said. “We’ve been listening to your reactions and feedback on the demo and we wanted to do whatever we could during this time to make the demo as enjoyable of an experience as possible.”

Forspoken - PC Features Highlight

The updated demo adds button mapping functionality, makes locked-on enemies that move off-screen remain locked-on for longer, adjusts certain text sizes and fixes “various technical issues”.

Square Enix has also revealed the game’s minimum, recommended and ultra PC system requirements, which it published in the tweet embedded below.

These were announced alongside the release of a new PC features trailer, which is viewable above.

Notice: To display this embed please allow the use of Functional Cookies in Cookie Preferences.

Announced in June 2020, Forspoken is the debut title from Square Enix’s Luminous Productions.

Last July the publisher delayed the game for a second time. Having originally been scheduled to arrive in May 2022, the Forspoken release date was pushed back by a further three and a half months, from October to January 24, 2023.

Square Enix has said it’s aiming to deliver “the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game” with Forspoken, which will be a PlayStation console exclusive for at least two years.

Tesla staged 2016 self-driving demo, says senior Autopilot engineer - Ars Technica

depolitikblog.blogspot.com
A crashed sedan has been torn in half.
Enlarge / Walter Huang's Model X in a tow yard days after his fatal crash.

Tesla's widely viewed 2016 Autopilot demonstration video showing the system stopping for red lights and moving off again when the light changed to green was faked, according to the director of Autopilot software, Ashok Elluswamy. Elluswamy made the statement under oath during a deposition for a lawsuit brought against Tesla following the fatal crash of Apple engineer Walter Huang in 2018.

The video, posted in October 2016 and still available on Tesla's website, begins with the caption: "The person in the driver's seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself." We then see a Tesla Model X leave a garage, and a driver enters the car as The Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black" begins to play.

The heavily edited video then shows the Model X driving around, stopping for road junctions and red lights. All the while, the human in the driver's seat has his hands near but not on the steering wheel. Upon reaching a Tesla facility, the human leaves the Model X, which goes off to park itself, avoiding running over a pedestrian in the process.

At the time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk publicized the video via his Twitter account, telling the world that "Tesla drives itself (no human input at all) thru urban streets to highway to streets, then finds a parking spot." Musk went on to add that "8 cameras, 12 ultrasonars and radar all flush mounted and body color. Beauty remains."

Since then, Tesla has removed both radar and ultrasonic sensors from its cars, presumably to reduce the cost of materials to the automaker. The loss of forward-looking radar sensors and a large number of complaints about phantom braking have led the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to open an investigation, one of several open NHTSA investigations into Tesla's various driver assists and their propensity to crash into things.

But the Model X in the video was preprogrammed to drive from Menlo Park to Palo Alto, according to Elluswamy, who was a senior software engineer in 2019 before being promoted to head all Autopilot software development in 2019.

"The intent of the video was not to accurately portray what was available for customers in 2016. It was to portray what was possible to build into the system," Elluswamy said in his testimony, according to Reuters. 3D maps were used to pre-program the route, including where to stop, and during the self-parking demo a Tesla crashed into a fence, Elluswamy said.

The fatal crash occurred on Highway 101 in Mountain View, California, in March 2018 when Huang's Model X, operating under Autopilot, swerved into a highway crash attenuator at more than 70 mph. Tesla blamed Huang for the crash, claiming he was not paying attention. But according to the National Transportation Safety Board, Huang had repeatedly complained to friends and family about his car's propensity to swerve at that particular crash barrier in the past. The National Transportation Safety Board had harsh words for Tesla, CalTrans, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, all of which shared blame for the death, it said in 2020.

New Forspoken Demo Update Adds Button Mapping, Lock-on Improvements, and More

A new Forspoken demo update will soon be rolling out to the PS5 version of the game. Highlights of the new patch include button mapping, which should help players master parkour more easily; a longer lock-on for enemies that move offscreen, which should make them easier to track when the camera gets a little unwieldy; and adjustments to text sizes.

New Forspoken Demo update patch notes

  • Button mapping functionality has been added.

  • Locked-on enemies that move off-screen will remain locked-on longer.

  • Certain text sizes have been adjusted.

  • Various technical issues have been fixed.

The patch was announced during a livestream alongside an updated list of PC system requirements.

The new Forspoken demo update is scheduled to go live later today. For those that had been avoiding it due to the lack of button mapping, wonky lock-on, and/or problems with the size of fonts, hopefully this patch helps to make it more enjoyable.

Though you can’t get them in the demo, Forspoken’s Trophies look easy enough to earn when the full game releases on January 24. Though they may require a bit of a grind for those looking to Platinum the game.

Whatever your impressions are of the demo, Forspoken’s devs are “sure” that the final release will meet fans’ expectations.

Huey Lewis says it was only the demo version of Power Of Love that Marty McFly shredded over in Back To The Future - MusicRadar

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

The story behind Huey Lewis & the News’ The Power Of Love and how it made its way into Back To The Future’s audition scene is the stuff of music and movie legend. But as Lewis has revealed in a recent interview, not everything was as it seems – at least not on the screen.

The track we’re hearing on the film was not the track that scored the band their biggest hit. At least, it wasn’t the final version; it was only the demo of The Power Of Love that we are hearing when Michael J Fox as Marty McFly shredded all over with an Ibanez Roadster II s-style electric guitar

Speaking to YouTube channel Top 2000 a gogo, Lewis tells us how it all went down, and he claims that the success of the song, which was released ahead of the movie, convinced the studio to push its release forward.

“The film Back To The Future set a record for the shortest time ever between principal shooting and when the movie came out,” says Lewis. “Nine weeks. And the reason that is, is because The Power Of Love was released one week, and every week it was soaring up the charts, and then they put the pressure on Zemeckis. He still tells the story, ‘They’re coming to me, going, We’ve got to get the movie out – the song is killing it!’”

Other reports say the pressure came from the test screenings, which were overwhelmingly positive. This was high-concept sci-fi in an easily digestible blockbuster – a cinematic work of alchemy and they wanted it out. Either way, The Power Of Love was in, and if they were in such a hurry, perhaps there was no time to use the final version in the scene.

“They took that demo and [hums shred solo] all over it in the scene where Marty is playing guitar,” says Lewis. “That’s our demo!”

The band’s involvement began as these things tend to do in Hollywood, with the big power meet. The sit-down was called by a production team lead by Steven Spielberg and director Bob Zemeckis. They wanted to sound Lewis out.

“They took this meeting, and they said, ‘We have just written this film, and our lead character Marty McFly’s favourite band would be Huey Lewis and the News, how about writing a song for the film?’” says Lewis. “I said, ‘Well, flattered, don’t know how to write for film necessarily, and don’t really fancy writing a song called Back To The Future.’ And they said, ‘Oh no, whatever song you want.’”

That was the first hurdle cleared. How it was going to sound was another matter. Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2019, Lewis said he put the track on his Walkman and went for a jog, came back and finished it. Looking back on it in 2022, Lewis recalls just a little back and forth before they got what they wanted.

“I sent the demo down to them and it started with the verse [hums riff] in a minor key,” he says. “Bob Zemeckis got it and he said, ‘Oh, I don’t know. It’s not up enough. We need something to be up,’ I said, ‘Oh, okay.’ So I went to the boys and said what he thought and Johnny [Colla, rhythm guitars/keys] came up with [hums riff], those three chords, and it ended up being the intro, real positive. And Zemeckis said, ‘Great!’”

The video interview was shot at Lewis’ ranch in Montana, which he describes as the ranch The Power Of Love paid for. There he has been busy rewilding the pasture.

What’s the appeal of Montana? “More cheese, less rats, less people, more nature!” he explains. Check out the full interview above, in which Lewis discusses hearing loss and how it has affected his lifestyle.

Lewis famously has a cameo in Back To The Future as the non-plussed fuddy-duddy teacher with a bullhorn who didn't think much of McFly and the Pinheads' performance.

Lewis' teacher was styled after a label executive. Huey Lewis & the News would write and record a second track for the movie, Back In Time, which played as the credits rolled.

Ace puzzler Desktop Dungeons: Rewind has a demo and incoming daily challenges - Rock Paper Shotgun

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Desktop Dungeons is a morish puzzle game from 2010 that channels conventional dungeoning into fiendish headscratching. Every enemy sits still, waiting for you to come and whack it. Whack willy-nilly, though, and they'll kill you in no time - so you have to tactically explore parts of each level to heal, while targeting foes in an order that lets you survive long enough to level up and take on the big bads.

Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is an upcoming "modern remastering" of the original, with 3D graphics and the ability to rewind time rather than start each level from the very beginning. It's got a demo you can play right now, and it's adding free daily challenges with a sharable leaderboard later this month. I am hyped.

It's good at generating lots of small moments that feel satisfying. Just from 15 minutes of tinkering with the demo, I've already had a couple of times where I got to relish venturing into a single tile that restored just enough health for me to survive a fight. Another fight took me down to one HP, but I'd timed it so I immediately got to bask in the full health bar of a level up. There's something very pleasing about turning such a familiar idea into a critical component of a puzzler.

The 3D graphics aren't as immediately readable as their sprite-based forefathers, but I found myself adjusting pretty quickly. I also can't remember there being so many items to use, but it has been like, 13 years. Developers QCF Design say your saves from Desktop Dungeons will still work, so it can't be that different.

You can play the demo right now, but starting from January 25th there'll be a new, procedurally-generated dungeon each day that you get one stab at. One-shot daily challenges can be magic, if you can get a gang of friends to all join in and compare strategies and leaderboard scores. This is free, so hey, maybe you can.

Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is due out at some point this year, on Steam.

Square Enix Has Released A Dragon Quest Treasures Demo Worldwide - Nintendo Life

depolitikblog.blogspot.com

Update [Fri 13th Jan, 2023 15:30 GMT]: A few weeks after the Japanese demo dropped on the eShop, you can now download the Dragon Quest Treasures demo from the North American and European eShop!

We thought this would happen eventually, and Square Enix confirmed earlier today (via the official Dragon Quest Twitter) that the demo is ready to download. And just like the Japanese demo, you can carry your save data over.

Get treasure hunting, Dragon Quest fans!

Original article [Fri 23rd Dec, 2022 02:05 GMT]: Square Enix is known for releasing some pretty generous game demos and this time it's back with one for its latest Dragon Quest spin-off, Dragon Quest Treasures.

This game arrived on the Switch earlier this month and was generally well-received by the critics. In our own Nintendo Life review we gave the title eight out of ten stars - calling it a "great" introduction to the RPG genre. It can be just as fun for veterans as well.

So, if you have been wanting to try out this game, and happen to have access to a Japanese eShop account, you can now download a full demo from there. It also includes English subtitles, suggesting the demo could be released worldwide at some stage.

One other point to note is that you can play until the point where you begin collecting treasure. Players can also transfer data from the demo to the full version if they decide to purchase it.

Would you be interested in trying out this latest Square Enix demo? Have you played the full game yet? Comment below.
