Tekken 8 Demo input lag tests reveal the latency present in the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC versions - EventHubs

Tekken 8's big launch is rapidly approaching, and now basically all prospective players can get a taste of the action in its new trial demo.

As to how the game is currently feeling across the different systems available, there's some input lag test results in for the Tekken 8 Demo across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.

Latency expert Nigel 'Noodalls' Woodall recently ran a bunch of experiments across all three versions to see how things are shaping up.

Using his camera method, the PS5 came out running with results from 69.82 ms to 76.14 ms, which equates to 4.36 to 4.76 frames of visible delay.

As for the Xbox, the Series X seemed to perform a bit better ranging from between 61.15 ms and 66.95 ms or 3.82 and 4.18 frames with the Variable Refresh Rate display.

And then there's the Steam version of the demo, which performed the best of all at an average range of 42.14 ms and 45.16 ms or 2.63 and 2.82 frames from when a button is pressed to when it's registered.

The PS5 results are also pretty well backed up by another tester in Kimagre Gaming, who found the demo averaged at 4.78 frames at 1080p or 4.81 frames at 4K resolution.

Using a different video interrupt method, however, Noodalls found the PlayStation and Xbox demos to be essentially identical at 58.76 ms / 3.67 frames on PS5 and 57.87 ms / 3.61 frames.

Although there are some apparent differences across the platforms, they largely fall in line with what we've been seeing with most modern releases lately.

It seems the input lag issues that have been present in Unreal Engine 4 fighting games hopefully won't directly apply to Unreal Engine 5 games too since Tekken 8 is the first major fighter to use the upgraded tech.

We recently saw that UE4 problem is still going on with the PS5 version of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising from latency tests from these two helpful creators.

Even with the potentially slightly higher PS5 numbers, Tekken 8's lag appears to be improved from Tekken 7 across the board after the UE4 updates to bring latency down.

That's a pretty promising sign that Unreal 5 games are going to give fighting game fans a better performance for this generation in the genre after going through some rough patches in the past decade.

These numbers could still improve as well considering this is just for the demo, and the release version could be different though we'll have to wait and see on that.

Tekken 8 is still on track to release January 26, 2024 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam.
